There are a lot, but if I had to pick the most memorable, it would probably be my scariest. In 1998, I was filming the world record attempts at skydive Chicago. On one of the latter jumps, we completed a 259way, but it wast held long enough (a couple of jumps later a 248 way was completed). At break-off, I tracked for a few and then dumped as planned. I reached for my breaks a WHAM! I got hit by another jumper. We wrapped and off the races we went! After a few, he chopped and his canopy cleared mine, but mine was ripped in 1/2. I chopped and was under my reserve at about 1,500 ft. For the life of me (no pun intended), I was amazed that we didn't hit anyone else during this whole event. We collided probably around 5,000 ft and spun through all of the jumpers that were below us and it was a 259 way none the less! That jump has to be my most memorable! -Mike

Gotcha. Makes sense.....now......

Check out this video Couple of freeze frames from that video attached here. I think the responsible people, out in that area, are over at Skydive Chicago. Please - someone tell GoFast that 'Australian Honey' falls into the category of 'five syllable words'. . This is not from Skydive Chicago. The stills that I posted as well as the video were from Chicagoland Skydiving (Hinckley). Also, Skydive Chicago uses Vector Tandem rigs and Strong Tandem Rigs are being used in these photos. -Mike

I just got the CSC newsletter and again, there is another photo of the same tandem master in a questionable position. That's just my opinion... -Mike
-
...don't know. I got came across the picture as part of the newsletter they send out. Shortly after this post, it was taken offline. I came across this link that shows a video of the same tandem master (I think) doing the same thing. http://www.realxstream.com/?XStreamID=28589

Looks like the original photo was taken down from the web site. Fortunately, I just happened to have saved a copy. Here it is...

Is this a good idea? Bad idea? http://www.skydivecsc.com/images_updates/2006/07.25.2006/IMG_0121.jpg I am not a tandem master, so I don't know for sure. I have, however, filmed my fair share of tandems (vector) and this just does not seem like a good idea. Thoughts?

Thank you very much!! This is great information! -Mike

I am going to be around the North side of Austin.
-
I guess just about anything. I wasn't sure if there was anything notable in Austin. For example, in Chicago, you have the downtown area with the Sears Tower, Greek town, China Town, the museum area or the lake front. -Mike

Good Point! I guess another thing to ask, is where should I NOT go. -Mike

Looks like I will be headed down to Austin for a couple of days on business. I am not familiar with the area, so I though I would ask those of you from that area what there is to do and see down there. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks, Mike

Here is a sample of what one could look like. Keep in mind that I have no idea about what style, size, color, etc; she would be looking for. This is just something I threw together in about 5 minutes (so it is not my best work). -Mike

Looks like they are taking the flying wing concept to the next level.... http://www.flightglobal.com/Articles/2006/05/30/206910/James+Bond-style+strap-on+jet+pack+flying+wing+to+extend+special+forces'.html

[reply It'd be really useful to make the popup dz names link to their homepages. Yup, there definitely needs to be more DZ information on the site. What would be nice would be to allow the DZs maintain their own data. The question is would DZ owners be interested in this?
-
Wouldn't this occur every 100 years? Next one would be 2106 and the previous would be 1906. They just showed this on the news, but listed it as: 01:02:03 04/05/06

Made a couple of updates to the web page. Nothing major. I added functionality so that you can select a state and the map will zoom to that state. The page is at: http://aerialdynamics.com/dzmap/ Again, the DZ data is not complete or accurate. I will try to figure out how to get that data updated. Any ideas? Also, there seems to be a problem with Firefox on the initial load. If you get a message about a script loading slow, just click continue. I am looking into this. -Mike

So...after a couple of hundred hits on the page, what the consensus? Is this useful? Should I enhance it? Continue to develop it? Your thoughts are appreciated. -Mike
-
Sorry....bad data....fixed though.
-
Sorry about that! Like I mention, I gathered what data I could, just to see how this concept would work. Unfortunately there are some DZs missing. I don't know if there is an need for a site like this, but if there is enough interest, I can enhance it and make the data more accurate. Thanks, Mike

In one of the previous threads (http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2144023; there was some question about the largest cluster of DZs. I put together a map of all of the DZs in the US to get an idea of what kind of coverage the US and each state has. The map is located at: http://aerialdynamics.com/dzmap/ This map uses google mapping technology, so you have the ability to zoom in and scroll on the map. Also, you can switch to a satellite view of the map for photos (some of the rural areas do not have hi-res images). I gathered what data I could find. This is by no means a complete or accurate set of data! Sorry if anything is missing or inaccurate. This is just a sample page. Check it out when you have a chance. -Mike
-
I didnt mean to imply that the site was not accessible, more that the data to download is not easy to get at and the address information is sometimes not accurate.
-
At one point I wrote a web app that took all of the addresses for a given area and plotted them on a map. I was very surprised to see how many were close to my house!! Unfortunately (for Illinois) the source data is not easy to access nor is it very reliable.
