Thanks for the heads up, we'll work on getting this up ASAP!
-
I have added a new field to the dropzone's listings which says "Last Updated" and then reflects the last time any changes were made to the listing. Hopefully this will help. And I will take care of the dropzones listed above.
-
Thanks, I have cleaned up all the old items from the calendar sections. It seems most were from the old system before there was a mandatory requirement of selecting a date, meaning they never expire.

I have disabled the user, removed the ad and put out an alert for the scammer.

Username: pmelzone - Classifieds Seller Scam
Meso replied to Meso's topic in Security and Scam Alerts
The following user has been reported by several users as a scammer. The user put up an ad over the past few days with very little information. Attached is an image screenshot of the ad in question prior to its removal. PLEASE NOTE: The ads are often generic and copied and pasted from other legitimate ads, but the price will be too good to be true, and like they say - when it seems to be, it probably is. Do not do business with the following username: Username: pmelzone Ad: Wings W14, Sabre2 190, PDR 176, Cypres2 Freefly Friendly! We highly recommend attempting to ask questions that are difficult for scammers to answer relating to their item, that they could not know from copy and pasting. If there is any doubt as to whether the seller is legitimate or not, we also recommend considering asking them to work the sale through their dropzone. We ask you to remain vigilant when it comes to online purchases. The user has been removed from the site. -
Thanks, we're busy looking into this. It seems that one of the ad networks that our ad host is running has an issue that's got it flagged as malware. We will work at removing this as quickly as possible.

The following scam has been reported: Click here to read more about these kind of scams. Remember: DO NOT do business with anyone who offers to send you payment for a higher amount than your selling price with the understanding that you'll send back the balance. Be suspicious of anyone claiming to be acting on behalf of a "client" or another "customer". Be suspicious of anyone claiming to be from Nigeria or West Africa If you agree to accept a check payment, then do not send anything, gear or "change" before the check cleared. And be careful, if you manage to clear a fraudulent check then you may be liable for the damages if the bank finds out later. Make sure your bank authenticates the check. If it sounds to good to be true, then it probably is. This username has been disabled.

The forum software is indeed old, and in many ways outdated, and we do have the plans to upgrade them in some way. Whether or not it would be a large cosmetic change, would yet to be decided, in the short term any update would be minor and only include a few small changes to visuals and functionality. The main reason for this would be that our site runs on a CMS called Gossamer Threads, this CMS is then reliant on running a Gossamer Threads forum, and we can then only upgrade when they release updates for it. So we can't currently look at things like PHPBB or anything, as the forums are linked to profiles which are linked to the entire site, and would require a complete CMS change. We currently do have a new forum template ready that matches the rest of the site, slightly more modern with 1 or 2 added things. But we also understand that highly active forum users end up developing a 'homely' feeling to visuals of a forum and changing that, even a minor change - often results in them feeling like someone has just run in and redecorated their home. Long and short being, we do have plans to upgrade in a minor way in the near future. After that we do have plans to get more up to date and in line with current technology.

Only a couple ;) I'm a sober reddy, I'm best bribed with sports drinks and chocolate brownies.

I'm really more of a Reddy.

Thanks, will do some testing in IE 8 and see what's up - and whether it would make sense to just remove that facebook box.

We could look into possibly doing something about that if it affects usability. Though it shouldn't have any effect on the page load, it should load last, while the rest of the site is already loaded and usable, you shouldn't have to wait for it to load before you're able to click links or anything... If that isn't the case, let me know and we can try look into it. But for me, I often continue to click on links and reply to messages before the facebook button has finished loading.

Hey there, There is no fool-proof way to be entirely sure, but there are a few things that should look out for that are tell-tale signs of a scammer and a few other steps one can follow to help ensure that you minimize your risks. Things To Watch Out For The following, are often used by scammers: - "I will have someone/a courier pick the item up from you" (Be VERY weary of anyone who claims that they will send a courier or person through to collect the item. This is generally something that is used exclusively by scammers, and should set off red flags immediately.) - Mentioning the exact product title in the ad response. (While I imagine there are isolated cases where a legitimate user may copy and paste the ad title when responding, this is far more prevalently used by scammers. Be weary of a response that begins with something along the lines of "I am interested in your Sabre Excellent Condition (20 jumps)..") - Broken English but claiming to be from an English speaking country. (Many of the scammers will claim to be from America or England, and yet speak with broken English, while this can happen with legitimate users, it also does warrant looking into the buyer more deeply.) Furthermore, then there are ways to try and establish if the user is legitimate, and these can be difficult to verify at times, and may require a bit of effort - but if you want to make a sale and not get scammed, it's probably best. We used to recommend just asking for the buyers USPA number or foreign equivalent, but lately this is something that the scammers have picked up on, and provide fake details - even claiming to jump at certain existing dropzones. The best things to do at this stage are: - Request that the sale be negotiated through a rigger at their dropzone. - Contact the dropzone they claim to jump at, and verify that this person is who they say they are. - Get the details to their rigger and contact them. As I mentioned, nothing is fool-proof, but many of the methods above can help in ensuring that you evade any potential scammers. And last of all, remember to have a look at our scams forum before completing any sale, to make sure that user isn't listed.

I keep mis-reading this thread title as: "Facial Fertilization Surgery"... I don't even.

Perhaps some misunderstanding exists as to what the domains that are 'informed' are... These are mostly sites that we use to either provide functionality or to display ads. First, you're able to throw away a ton of those URLs because they are associated with basic site functionality. - google.com - gstatic.com (part of google) - google.analytics - facebook.net (our 'like' buttons access facebook) - facebook.com (associated with facebook buttons) - fbcdn.net (associated with facebook buttons) - mt1.googleapis.com (our dropzone finder map uses this) - mt0.googleapis.com (our dropzone finder uses this too) - doubleclick.net (google ads) - googlesyndication.com (associated with google) So you can already scrap those for basic site functionality. Then there are things like adzerk.net and adtech. These are our advertising hosts, to understand how advertising works, is that we use a certain host and then they 'serve' us ads to use. And when they serve different ads from different sources, you will see those sources come up in that list too. There is no 'selling out', the ads that we server are the exact same as most sites on the net. Remember that as with any site that uses an ad host, we don't control every ad that gets displayed, but when we do locate an ad that is causing problems (load times, intrusive etc) we then contact the ad host and ask that they remove it from the inventory used for dropzone.com. You can go through our suggestions and bugs forums for evidence of this. I can assure you that our ad serving is very regular and on par with most other sites out there (excluding massive multi-billion dollar corporations).

Wonder what makes your DZ.com surfing experience so slow?

I made this post in the other forum thread, but felt the need to paste it here too. This thread seems to be over-hyping what is typically a non-issue... -
Subconscious thoughts aren't something you'd be able to pick up on though nor control, and the desire to see supernatural events has been and is something that has existed in humans inherently for centuries now. We live in a world where humans have sought meaning in everything, and while doing so they ended up creating meaning in things that they didn't understand. Thunder becomes the actions of a god, fire becomes the wrath of a spirit etc. This has inherently been a part of man kind for almost as long as we have existed. People see things that are in their subconscious, maybe buried so deep they didn't even know they knew it. But an example would be religious people 'seeing' figures that are related to their religion. Why would they not be seeing things related to someone else's? People underestimate the mind and how it interprets information and stores it. There are vast amounts of data in your subconscious, ready to come out at any time. It's the same with dreaming, you don't always dream of things that you have reason to dream about, but the fact that you did dream of it tells you that the concept was already in your subconscious somewhere. As mentioned above, ghosts wouldn't cast shadows. As a spiritual being or form of energy, they would have to use some sort of power to cast shadows, or close doors - surely they would have better things to do with that power than to use it to enforce stereotypes on what a supernatural encounter is like ;)

We have been working hard on all these bugs after the new classifieds transition, and right now we think we've got all of them. If you see anything amiss, please let us know.

Hey Jason, It's completely understandable that you would feel this way, and we appreciate all the support you've given over the years through being a premium member. The Premium Membership and Featured Ads listings are quite different in certain aspects though, and I'll try and explain as best I can, the intention for both services. Our premium membership program, which has been running for a number of years now, was created to offer supporting members something 'extra' in the way they can use the site. The classifieds are only a part of that added functionality, which extends to the e-mail, the private messaging system, the forum and more. Our addition of the featured ads should not detract from the value of the premium membership program, especially when used to its fullest. http://www.dropzone.com/help/Premier_Membership/What_s_included_in_Premier_Membership_462.html Even within the classifieds themselves, there are privileges that only premium members get to enjoy, such as keyword notifications, multiple image uploads, view counters and adding URLs to ads. These are things that aren't included in a Featured Ad listing. Also remember that premium members have all of their ads placed in an area of higher priority, while featured ads are single paid ads which are featured. There is also nothing preventing a premium member from purchasing a featured ad listing, should they desire. We were aware of the fact that some users ended up purchasing premium membership accounts solely to get their ads placed more prominently, while not using any of the other functionality associated with the premium memberships. The logical step was to create a platform where these classifieds users, who had no intention of doing anything other than trying to promote their ads, were able to do so quickly and easily and without the need for longer term subscription commitments. We feel very positively about the current setup, and definitely feel as though it will for the most part assist all classifieds users, whether premium members or not, while offering that priority listing option. It's important to remember that we haven't in any way tried to minimize the benefits of the premium members, but rather just added a new option for both them and regular users, looking to get a priority listing on their ad. We hope that this can provide some reassurance that the premium memberships are still worth their money in the value provided and that the featured listings will be a positive move for all buyers and sellers. Thanks again for the support. Cheers Bryn

I'll look into this new problem - the new alerts that you are receiving at the top are what we put in place now and should prevent future errors related to the values and where they are entered. But it seems that when fixing the main issue, a small bug popped up with regards to reserve's DOM dates. So we`re looking into that. I have changed your ad in the back end for you to reflect the changes you want, as a temporary solution til we fix this DOM error.

Hi, There is a noted bug (If you hover your mouse over the 'i' sign next to the jumps field when submitting an ad, it will ask that if the number of jumps is 0, that you leave it blank. While we are currently in talks with the tech team about getting it resolved, currently when one enters the number 0 into the jumps field, it causes an error due to being unable to write the value into the database.
