Not all. Most will let you disable the intergrated and add in a card. Even then, I doubt she'll ever decide to upgrade her video card - for what she'll be doing, she can use this for 7 or 8 years, then just buy a whole new system. I'd stay away from the eMachines - I've heard nothing buy horror stories about them (have a friend that worked at Circuit City for a long time) I don't really build them anymore except if it's for a reason (built a dual processor one just to play with, overclock, etc) Actually, the one sitting on my desk that normally use is a Dell. Don - I have 2 P-III something-or-others sitting in my living room collecting dust. I'd give you one just out of pity. it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality

Gateway has changed a lot in the last 6 years.... I'd stick with Dell - you can get a really decent system for like $500 (including monitor) You can't build 'em that cheap anymore. And with Dell, you get a warranty. it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality

Can you get to it in safe mode? Try copying that file right off the cd, or copy the whole cd to your hard drive and install from there. Does it always error at that file? it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality

... which is backwards. Those adapters don't work like that. The USB end of the cable is designed to plug into the USB host (your PC) not the device. The serial end of the cable is usually a male DB9 - that won't plug into your PC. Those adapters are designed to plug a serial device into a USB host (I have one on my protrack cradle for example) not the other way around. it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality

I think you're thinking about it wrong - that adapter you put the link to is for a serial device to plug into a USB host, not the other way around. You could always get a pcmcia card reader, and then the adapter to put it in a desktop... but by that point, you've spent $100 probably. NT doesn't support USB. Some usb devices actually have the drivers need to work on NT, but chances are that yours doesn't. Finding a cheap, xD card reader, serial, is going to be tough too. You're probably out of luck - upgrade to 2000 if you can, or borrow someone's computer. CrazyIvan - yeah, that's backwards. I don't think a converter for USB device to serial even exists. If it did, it wouldn't be very cheap. it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality

I agree - that was a riot. Was a decent show, and made fun of reality shows at the same time! Some of the stuff that happened was so over the top though, I'm surprised he didn't at least start to think it was fake! Only this thread? You can usually tell how long someone's been in the sport by their responses to threads like these. Phree put it pretty well... Not only do most people take breaks, but a lot of people quit altogether! Right about that 3 year mark, a lot of people get bored, burnt out, broke, whatever and quit jumping.
