That guy you're with looks retarded and/or mentally unstable. Just an observation, not a personal attack. it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality

slot = any space you occupy This one actually bleeds over. A group of us going out one night, me to one of the drivers: "You have an open slot?" - he was a jumper too, and didn't even realize what I said until others started looking at me funny and I started laughing. it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality

You must be thinking of something else, otherwise Watkins Glen would be a messy race. With 250,000 people in attendance, I'm not sure how you didn't run into each other either!! Eh... wide-open for 500 miles isn't that exciting. Especially when, by the last lap there's about 4 cars left on the lead lap (if that), and only about 1/3 of the field that started even still in the race. Years ago it was a good race, it's just lost it. Oh, and I've never witnessed a spectator getting killed at the Brickyard, so maybe that has a little to do with it. it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality

Oh and I'm sure you've never gone faster then the speed limit or driven drunk. Thats against the law too scooter! Cut the guy a break. If they were actually doing something destructive, then yeah, good on him. But c'mon... they were moving for sale signs around... hell, I've done that before. It wasn't really harming anyone, just annoying. How is it different than trespassing to make a jump? Not really hurting anyone, but could just be annoying. it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality

Have you heard about the "Date Escape" service one of the wireless services are offering? It might be Verizon... basically, you tell them to call yo uin the middle of a date, and it's a pre-recorded thing saying "Things going bad? Trying to get out of there? Just repeat after me: "Oh no! Not again! Ok, I'll be right there" -- now when you hang up, tell your date that your mother locked herself out of the house, and you have to go let her in!" it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality

Anyone want to help defend the (relative) safety of our sport?

Not at all. I do the same thing. Of course, where I work, the auto-theft rate is really really bad - something like 1 in every 50 registered vehicles is stolen around here. I usually stop by the security desk with it on my shoulder and innocently ask if they can get me onto the roof too. (No really, I do) it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality

wildblue replied to lkolkin's topic in The Bonfire
No, it doesn't - plenty of talented people who were not exceeding their limits die in ths sport. You can do everything right and still die. Yes, there's the handful of fatalities that were people just being stupid and doing something they didn't have experience for. But we as humans are exceeding our limits everytime we step out of the plane. it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality -

Whew! Then I am lucky! I've done that many miles in a week a few times over the last year! Guess it wasn't my time! You've driven 15 hours a day for a week straight before?!?? it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality -

?? The stats he used obviously took the dumbasses into account. (BTW - hate to break this, but there's a lot of dumbasses under canopy out there too) That ratio doesn't sound close to me at all, I'm not sure why you see it as close. For me personally, I'm 20 times more likely to die skydiving than driving - that doesn't seem close to me at all. it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality -

I don't think the ratio is that close (I don't see that as encouraging complacency - actually it sounds to me like it kills the "Which is safer?" argument) - what are you more likely to do? Make 10 jumps in a week? or drive 6500 miles during that week? I'd make 10 jumps and maybe drive 300 miles... so I'm about 20 times more likely to die skydiving than driving... if I'm reading that right... and I might not be because I'm tired and still at work. it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality -

It was only 12 years ago that Perris had a terrible crash - that took the lives of 16 friends and family members, who happened to be world-class skydivers. So yeah, you've been pretty lucky. it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality
