What's a better analogy for Wuffos?

-Why do you jump out out a perfectly good airplane? -I once had to endure our pilot's landing and that was some scarry shit, I'm never doing that again! -Why do you jump out out a perfectly good airplane? -I love taking off in an airplane but I'm scared senseless about landing in one! -
Something similar happened at our dropzone, a tandem pax asked one of the other skydivers what happens if you get clouds caught in your chute and the skydiver looked at him, not even smiling and said: clouds in your canapy is a malfunction and then we cut our main and deploy our reserve. The rest of us pretty much died from laughter! Blue skies! Anders Samuelsson www.anderssamuelsson.se

If you repeat a lie enough times it will turn into the truth, at least to the one that tells them, you can actually try it yourself, with a small experiment, make up a small lie about something, and then repeat it many times over a long time period and you will start to believe it really happened, isn't the human mind incredible Blue skies! Isn't this a good response: - No, some idiot pushed me! (just to see their expressions) Blue skies! Anders Samuelsson www.anderssamuelsson.se

Really cool and welcome to this great sport (even though over here it's below freezing all the time and we probably won't be jumping until March again... bummer hehe) Blue skies! Anders Samuelsson www.anderssamuelsson.se

Man I recognize that from myself and I too have a ton of hobbies and as a matter of fact I love them all but don't have the time or energy to do them all at once so I go from one to another and that's pretty much fine by me (I actually played the guitar again yesterday and that's been a couple of months ago) It's ok to shift perspectives no and then! :) Blue skies! A jumpmaster I had told me that the most important thing in every jump is to have fun and that smile does help me at least to overcome the stress that comes with jumping out of an airplane. Strangely enogh I think that the fact that I was so scared during my training jumps helped me to overcome my fears. On jump # 13 my reserve deployed in the plane, the jumpmaster was really calm and sorted it out but when I got home that night I just sat on my bed crying with the realization that I could have died, I wished the jumpmaster had called me that evening but he didn't. We sometimes forget that this fear thing is complicated, there are delayed responses to the stimuli, a lot of the time people will act a lot more cool than they are, usually because: "hey everyone here seems cool and unafraid but I'm afraid, i.e. there must be something wrong with me" but of course we are all pretty much scared seneseless sometimes. As to what I do, I force myself to look out and down when the door opens, I keep my helmet on the entire way up to altitude simply because it insulates me from a lot of the noices. I'll stay in my small bubble a while, focusing on my breathing and my exit, I found that having a plan for how I'm going to exit the plane helped me out a lot. I also try to look out and look at the scenery and say to myself: "man that is so beautiful!" Blue skies! Anders Samuelsson www.anderssamuelsson.se

Radio instruction - can you tell them to cut away?
andm31 replied to CanEHdian's topic in Safety and Training
Our instructors spoke a lot about when to disconnect the RSL, how it works and such but they never actually showed us how to disconnect it! Ok, it's not rocket science but still, I had no idea of how to do it and had never done it before going up and doing any of my training jumps, in fact it was after I was done and had my license that my attention shifted to it and I figured out how to disconnect it... Man if I had taught my classes as a teacher the way my skydiving training was handled... but I guess we still learned the basics, maybe because falling towards immenent death will make you pretty attentive! How many jumps did you get in this weekend?
andm31 replied to andm31's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
It's getting colder here, did three Saturday... it was really cold so after the first one I waited a couple of hours to do the second and third one. Today was a slow day at our club so we ran four lifts and was on two of them so five in total :) Oh, I got some cool pics though! :) (Photographer is Simon "Simme" Lundgren) I was suppose to do a cool exit where I basically just fell down on my back and looked up on the plane but after releasing my grip I soon realized that I had to much momentum backwards and just tucked my knees in and did five or six back flips (not sure if it's actually called a back flip) Blue skies! That's a pretty good description. I just came back from another DZ (then my home one) and there is this guy there, he's got ten years in the sport, he's a talented skydiver as far as I understand but he spends a lot of time talking about how bad some skydivers are, he makes comments about the people hanging around the club, and frankly his just really rude. My friend needed a jumpmaster so he approached him and asked him if he could check him as he did a static line jump and he just said: "Who the fuck are you?" So my friend, patient and dependent on finding a jumpmaster told him very niceley that he needed his help... well, he did eventually help him out but man he was really rude doing it... not very good PR for the dropzone... Basically he's just got some really bad people skills but he makes a lot of other people feel bad and he nearly ruined my day just from the way he talked to me, took me a good couple of hours to shake the feeling! And I was ready to just head on back after one jump but luckily there are some really nice other jumpers there too. Then at our dropzone we have a guy who has 20 years in the sport but he doesn't have to prove it and most of all, by talking to the jumpers (new and old) and just giving them small tips (hey I don't need to be told what a bad skydiver I am... I know that... c'mon I have 29 jumps, I'm suppose to be bad!), doing things with a smile and just treating people with the respect they deserve he gets a lot of respect in return and people listens to him because he will say it without making you feel bad/mad or just like giving up the sport altogether. So skygods everywhere, if you don't have anything encouraging, helping or you have crappy people skills... for all of our sakes please just shut up!!! and let the people who have help us newbies out! My short list in the order that I've jumped them: Cessna Caravan (not sure of my experience in it as I only did one tandem jump from it and didn't really pay that much attention to the details) Antonov-2 (A lot of head room) Cessna 182 (takes for ever to get to 10k but is nice and comfy) de Havilland Beaver Turbine (Really fast up to altitude, kind of cramped if they put ten jumpers in there) Blue skies!
