    Formula 1 lost me couple of years ago. These days races are won at the start and during the pitstops, not on the track. Legends Cars are more to my taste. Lots of drivers, relatively cheap cars and more power than grip. You get to see very competitive racing but quite often there is also carnage for those who prefer it In northern Europe you can also see them race on ice ovals

    1) I was on an assignment to a country where I didn't really know anybody and had too much time during the weekends. I had thought about going skydiving for a long time but never got around to actually do it. One weekend I saw paragliders and got the idea to go skydiving. 2) I found peace where I expected to find rush. I find skydiving to be the best way clear my head and set my priorities straight. 3) During the dive it does feel like what you'd expect flying to be like. But when you really start thinking about it, it isn't flying. It's falling. Controlled falling, I give you that, but it's still falling. 4) Two years so far and plan to do it as long as I can and find it fun.

    0:0:0 Five weeks since my last jump. After that it has been either bad weather or I have been out of the country. Today weather would be perfect but there isn't a club anywhere nearby that would jump during the week.

    On might argue that the first mistake is to jump out of the plane and toss patch of nylon into the wind hoping it'll save you. Risks and especially unknown risks are part of the sport and we have to live with it. Don't throw out the baby with the bath water. One must understand that even though risks cannot be completely removed, they can be minimized. I try to minimize the risks as far as possible but I do always remember that something unexpected could happen, even if I do everything correctly. If something unexpected does happen, I just hope that others can learn from it and try to minimize that risk I failed to see. That said, I agree with your general idea that we shouldn't just assume that "things happen". We should still try to learn from those cases when everything was done correctly but shit hit the fan anyway. There is still room for improvement.

    First jump of the year was out of AN-2. Perfect winter day, I guess that was first time in a month that we saw Sun during the weekend. Canopy ride was a bit chilly as temperature on ground was -8C

    There are still plenty of AN-2s around here. I have been jumping in 4 DZs in Estonia and Lithuania and all those have at least one AN-2 - in some cases its also the only plane. In fact, all my jumps after the AFF have been from AN-2 ;) Bit slow climbing to the altitude but otherwise its very nice plane.

    Standing at the door, exit and then watching the plane fly away. Especially so when jumping from planes like AN-2 that have quite low airspeed on the jump run.

    I did 4 mins in tunnel between my AFF2 and AFF3. Like you I was told by the tunnel instructor to put my arms out and I did. I also did it for next 10 jumps out of the plane and really mastered art of backsliding

    I use dog tags as well. The one I currently have has my my info on it but I have been thinking about getting an extra plate with emergency contact info. It's not only about skydiving; I always have my dog tags on me anyway so it should be a bit easier for EMTs to ID my body if I get hit by a tram or something

    Why don't you use weather balloons. They are cheap, well-tested and pretty easy to operate - also, they are kind of a like designed for that. You can always try to get the easy way out and offer free tandems to meteorology students from local uni if they do the observations and calculations for you. Best of all they might be able to provide the required equipment as well.
