My son's mother expressed several times that she needed mental help but felt it would ruin her career as a lawyer. We never got help primarily because of our egos, and now it's all fucked. No one said it wasn't a thing. Do you have any suggestions for what should be done about this horrific injustice? I read the entire thread. I won't get into men's rights. It's "complicated." But a lot (and I mean a whole lot) of both commercials and TV shows portray men as bumbling idiots. Well meaning, but clueless. Homer Simpson is the stereotype, but in most comedy sitcoms, the kids and mom are smarter, wittier, quicker and all around better than the dad. And commercials aren't much better. Not just for domestic products. IMO, fast food is the worst. Think about the Sonic ads. The woman is smart and thoughful, the man is an idiot. In a few of them there are 2 men. One is a complete idiot, the other is only a partial idiot. McD's "Dollar Menu" ads, especially the radio ads, are as bad or worse. Husband is an idiot, wife is smart. What to do? I use the "Mentos Rule." I don't patronize the places who's ads insult my intelligence. That means very little fast food, which isn't a bad thing. Or I change the channel and listen to or watch something else. It's not a "Horrific Injustice", it's just a minor annoyance, that I choose to mostly ignore. I never thought it was so offensive...we just thought men were confident enough to handle it and the women would get a kick out of it and spend more.... btw, Homer Simpson, Peter Griffin, and Stan Smith are some of the most successfully hilarious characters in the world! I've certainly experienced my share of BS when it comes to men's rights when I was going through California's family law Kangaroo court...but still, if these "legitimate concerns" got to the point where we were seriously oppressed...I think most men realize that we'd have no problem physically overthrowing tyrannical women. I don't think Jclalor was referring to the majority of all commercials, but rather the majority of men when portrayed in those commercials. Now I don't know if it's truly the majority or not, but it happens a lot....and it's not always obvious either. Personally, I don't really care...it is what it is.. When I was in advertising, it was understood that we were primarily marketing to women 25-54 because they control the majority of money in the average American household or at least have the greater influence in how it's spent. I think the age demographic is even older now.... ...sometimes I wonder if this has something to do with this country's economic woes. Your secrets are the true reflection of who you really are...

Very touching photo...it almost brought tears to me.(it would've but I'm feeling a lil' bit jaded right now...maybe tomorrow.) I know first hand the similarities between real muslims and islamic extremists....there are none. That's like saying there's no difference between real Christians and the Westborough Baptist church Christians. Exactly I believe Coreece said that real Muslims had nothing in common with the extremists. Correct...but to be fair, they were tricked. My phraseology was somewhat deliberate to produce a perceptual phenomenon similar to the Mcgurk Effect, but much more complex since the illusion deals with personal false preconceptions about a particular speaker when paired with their negative perception of various sentence structures. It was pretty much an experiment in how people see what they want to see, or at least see what they think they should see, even though it's not there... Allow me to break it down: The three men who replied to my post typically disagree with me more than they agree, so their minds are already negatively primed to disagree before they even know what I'm saying, therefore they most likely perceived my first statement as sarcasm even though it was 100% sincere: "Very touching photo...it almost brought tears to me." This negative reaction to that statement combined with the phraseology of the very next sentence set the stage for them to misread the word "similarities" as meaning "differences:" "I know first hand the similarities between real muslims and islamic extremists....there are none." To be honest, I really didn't think it would work...let's call it the "Coreece Effect." I know, I know...a 'lil bit psycho analytic, but I find this shit fascinating.
