This happened to me down in sebastian earlier this year. After talking to some very experienced canopy pilots, the best guess is wake turbulence. The canopy in front of me however is pretty far, even for a go pro video, and we are on our downwind leg. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9hx7-s5Bu8 attached is a screen shot

Anyone ever jump at Miami Skydiving Center?
wwelbon replied to cbuffalino's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Miami Skydiving Center is a Tandem Factory based at Tamiami Airport. They jump a 182. I have never jumped there but from what I hear the landing area is not great and a pretty far van ride away from the airport. The dropzone everyone is talking about is http://www.skydivemiami.com They are located about 30 mins south of Tamiami at the Homestead Airport. They fly a caravan and have a nice landing area near the dz. They do a lot of tandems, but they have a very friendly staff, are very safe, and there are usually plenty of fun jumpers to jump with on the weekends! I have jumped there many times and would suggest it if you are in the area! -Will -edit- turns out I don't know how to make it clicky -

I had a fun little falling off the step or in my case wheel experience about a month ago. Fell off the wheel of a 182 that didn't have a step and the pilot forgot to put the brakes on! Fortunately i was able to hang on to the strut. Not the most comfortable way to spend climb out but managed to hang on long enough for them to get out and still get a good exit shot! Made for a funny video if you know what your looking at, I'm sure the tandem didn't even notice

Votes are for peoples choice award! The flying machines are judged on many aspects and number of votes is one of them. The glider on top separates from the tree and flies away to victory! -

We used a go pro with the motorsports suction cup mount just for fun. Worked great. only problem is you need to have someone either turn it on while on the ground, or get out and turn it on while on jump run. And the same with turning it off.

I called century and they sent me the 30-37 for free! I also bought a 30-43 on ebay but it is actually wider with the two step up rings.
-
Ya mine fell from less than 2ft, but on to concrete. My century .5 rolled away with the lens mount attached to it. Fortunately nothing else happened to the camera or lens. I'm definitely happy I bought sony's accidental damage warranty, they are fixing it. Not sure if a plastic step up ring would have saved it though. It didn't even seem to hit that hard. Here is a pic of the aftermath...

Wow thats insane! After a little youtubing I found out that the guys name is ferdi fische and the jump is from a 115 ft cliff. Here another video of it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jcO-pDwzgmk He also recently broke his record by doing it from a 150ft cliff. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xrk0ZJ_mmDc Will

Hey I actually just emailed Cookie Composites to find out when the padlock was coming out. They said the padlock will be released with the Atomic helmet before next season. Not to specific, but figured I would pass it along. Will

Thanks! I will definitely be interested in one if I go with the nikon. As for the af motor From what I can find online, it seems, only the higher-end Nikons have motors. So not all lenses for nikons have the motor built in. And with the Canon's non of them have a motor built in. So all of the lenses built for Canons, that have autofocus, have it built into the lens. Is this right? Also it seems most of the new lenses have the AF built in. Also other than the switch, I know the T1i looks good on paper, but the Nikon seems to do better in the tests. Would you say the canon is just better for skydiving, or overall? Thanks, Will

Thanks for the reply! I was confused about that because it does not have the MC-DC2 listed under remoter control in the specs. But I talked to B&H and nikon, and they both said that the d5000 is compatible with the MC-DC2. I'm not sure why they don't list it as an option. Also how important is having the af motor in the body? I know the d5000 doesn't have it, but i am not sure about the T1i. Will

Hey, Sorry for another still camera thread, but I am looking into getting a dSLR camera for Christmas, to use for both jumping and ground use. The two cameras I am looking at are the Nikon d5000 and the Cannon T1i. I really like the D5000, but I haven't heard of anyone using it for jumping. It is compatible with the MC-DC2 Remote, which is the same wired remote the d90 uses. Anyone know if the MC-DC2 can be spliced to the conceptus switch like you can with the MC-DC1? It is only 2 ounces heavier so weight isn't much of a factor. Any reason this camera would not work for skydiving? What do you all think? Thanks, Will

Hey, My name is Will. I haven't really posted on here but figured this would be a good place to start. I got this lens back in the beginning of July. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/577500-REG/Century_Precision_Optics_0HD_05WA_43_0HD_05WA_43_0_5x_Wide_Angle.html Correct me if I’m wrong but I am pretty sure this is the same lens. I have put about 50 jumps on it so far with my cx100 and I love it. I had the .55 but sold it and bought this one, mostly because it fit my helmet better but that’s a different story. It definitely seems wider, but I don’t have any video side by side to compare it to. I added a couple pictures from some jumps today and one from a four way in sebastian back in August. The shots before exit I am standing on the wheel of a 182 so that should give you an idea of how wide it is. Hope this helps, Will

I bought a viso because I heard all the negative things about the neptune. I was wrong. My biggest problem with it is the mounting hardware supplied by l and b. It is absolutely terrible. On top of that I bought the protector case to protect my viso and it ended up doing the exact opposite. On a hop n pop I guess my viso bumped the planes strut and it fell right out of the case. I didn't even notice it until I was under canopy. I have talked to a few other people and it turns out this is not the first time it has happened. I emailed L and B about this and have yet to get a reply. My other problem is that it the screen is difficult to read in freefall. I ended up having to use my analog altimeter in freefall and the viso under canopy. I do like how you can replay your jump and watch the speed or altitude in real time, but it is only for the last jump you made. I also question its accuracy because if you watch it all the way through landing it will usually go down to about -30 to -50 feet below ground level. Also compared to the neptune it lacks many features including audible alarms, waterproofing, and average freefall speed. My next altimeter will be a NEPTUNE!
