I was going skydiving again after 6 months of walking only on land. Finally I had money to do it again. After leaving my Smoke Crack Anynonmous group I had a cup of coffee.Thinking of the big dive the next day, I set the alarm and kissed my dog and cat goodnight. I was so nervous about my jump that I awoke early from a bad dream. I sprang up in the bed screaming, " Pull, Pull, god damn it Scottie PULL!!!!!" As I shake out the cobwebs I swear I hear "I am giving all she's got captian" in some weird Scottish accent. Eyes begin to focus and I see a mound moving on the corner of the bed. I think, "Oh great not again" and yup true enough again... the dog is fucking the cat again!!! What's with all the verbose stories? I love hearing everyone stories, learning from others of more wisdom than myself, and the experiences of newbies....but please keep it under a thousand words and to just the facts; i really don't care if your dog is shagging your cat.

Yes we will be there on the 22nd. Actually we're going down there on Saturday night (21st) to celebrate our buddy taking the MCAT (why he wants to spend all that money to attend med school I don't know why...that's thousands of jumps). If you can't make it Saturday night, you'll be able to spot us. We will be the ones snoring loudly on the grass in sleeping bags without a tent! Venwood

Everytime I go skydiving I hitch a ride with my friend Albatross. We usually head out to the DZ at about 6 in the morning. So when I drive over to his house on my motorcycle its very dark, there is no traffic and the road is mine. I always ride with my visor up, wind full in my face. Its almost like doing a solo jump. No one around, everything is quiet except for the wind, and the feel of the wind brushing my face. A great way to start a day of sky diving. Just Jump, Venwood

I have jumped from a twin otter and a sky van. The greatest exit (with respect to feeling) was from the skyvan. It was like jumping from a diving board. Jump up, pause, and then down you go until the relative wind hits you. Also it is an unnerving/exhililarating feeling to sense the other skydivers exit from the skyvan! Safe Landings, Venwood

Great suggestion Tee...you have given us more food for thought. Thanks Blue Skies, Venwood

i want to hear about those jumps or jump days that you will never forget. Mine was on January 9, 2001, my 30th birthday. An instructor from our AFF school in Perris (the calmest, coolest dude who flew)picked my two buddies and myself up at the Santa Monica airport in a Cessna around 8 in the morning. We then had a beautiful flight to Perris with an exciting landing in the fog. After landing (and kissing the ground)I got up in the air within a half hour and did my AFF graduation jump. What a morning I will never forget. The school's owner was worried about the landing field (it had rained for the past 2 days) so he wanted me to land in the grass. He also wanted me on radio (which stopped after jump 4)to "guide me to a landing in the grass." After a very fun graduation jump with Mooley, I am coming in for a landing on the grass (which is reserved for licensed divers, so I am busting with smiles) and one of the jumpmasters, Ed, comes on the radio. He says, "Here is my advice after 20 yrs of skydiving (something like that), don't fuck up!" I am coming in for the landing waiting for more important advice and realized after a second none more was coming. I laughed my ass off coming in for a landing at about 200 feet. Well, I missed the end of the grass landing strip by about 10 feet. All Ed could say to me while slapping me on the back was, "Why didn't you cut away so you could land on the grass?" Great day. Did 2 more fun jumps after that and flew back to Santa Monica with my friends watching the sun sink away. A great birthday, one I will never forget! I have the best friends! Venwood

Thanks for your post anon. Your post gives food for thought about banner stability. Any other helpful suggestions or experiences out there? Flying not like the name, Venwood

My two friends and I want to do a banner dive. The three of us entered into the AFF program at the same time. We have all graduated the program and are all at the same/different progression through post A license buying beer festivities. Throughout our joint experience we have tried to spread the word about sky diving and have been successful in our company and friends, we have had about a little less than 10 other people jump from just listening to our experiences (we started jumping in October of 2000). The point of this post is that our "leader" has suggested a great idea, that we jump holding a banner of our company, take a pic, and post it in a newsletter (to spread the holy word of sky diving a little more). Initially, we are "planning" to dive with a banner 6 to 8 ft long, and 1 foot tall. The banner would be stretched between two of us and the other would just be hovering free in the middle. Any of you sky diving wizards have any experiences or helpful suggestions in completing such a sky dive? Flying Not like the name, Venwood PS forgive me for also posting this in talk back, just looking for good feedback.

I do not know what effects a cloud will have on your canopy but I can pass on solid advice that I have been given about clouds. 1. Notice the cloud layer's altitude on the ride up because then the clouds can give you another visual indication of your altitude. For example, the bottom of the spotty cloud layer is at 3000 and you fall through a cloud without pulling, well you better pull very soon. 2. If you do end up pulling and are in a cloud under a full canopy, spiral out of it. Like everyone else has said before this post, u can't see anyone else in a cloud so get out of it quick. The best way to get out of a cloud is to lose altitude and the best way to lose altitude is to spiral. On my AFF 3, I started my opening sequence right above a cloud. When I was under a beautiful, full canopy, and had done my canopy checks I noticed I was at the bottom of the cloud. I could see the ground now and then with passing whisps of the cloud blocking my sight. I said uh uh, pulled the right toggle hard and had a fun spiral out. Great experience which was elevated 100% because I was a student. Safe Landings, Venwood
