Ha. Just wait, you haven't seen nuthin yet. You're only going to receive sensitive & cogent answers, opinions, and suggestions in these forums. Welcome to skydiving and now to the current matter... Yea, buddy! I'd say you're certainly on the right track there. Don't stop with just the mirror to streamline your evaluations and EP decison-making processes, though. I'd also recommend programming a handheld/tablet computer (nothing big, no reason to be ridiculous about this sort of thing) and strapping it to your left forearm (after all, things are starting to get a bit crowded on your upper-body appendages). Instead of having to go through all those complicated AND time-consuming EP decisions, you'd simply glance in your mirror, ascertain the situation, tap in the pertinent 'yes' or 'no' responses, and within mere moments, you'll get an accurate and consistent outline of the correct responses. I guarantee you'll never suffer from brain-lock in the air again. Or... I suppose you could always phone a friend. Now before everyone jumps on the congratulatory bandwagon and wants to be the first to talk to me about it, I have to admit that I originally considered a total-telemetry system, with multiple GPS-sensors placed in key areas of the canopy, bridle, PC, etc, which would communicate directly with the computer, inputting respective orientations, and further aid in the efficiency of the process. But then I thought... that would be absurd. *for those of you who've actually read this far, of course this is a joke. After all, you couldn't really operate such a system with gloves on, now could you? Every fight is a food fight if you're a cannibal Goodness is something to be chosen. Yep - the gayer, the better. That's why you were attracted to this thread. Every fight is a food fight if you're a cannibal Goodness is something to be chosen. When a man cannot choose, he ceases to be a man. - Anthony Burgess -
Man, I'm not surprised. There are huge holes in that canopy! How come you didn't you go to your reserve? Couldn't find the damn cutaway pillow. Every fight is a food fight if you're a cannibal Goodness is something to be chosen. When a man cannot choose, he ceases to be a man. - Anthony Burgess

Yeah, but who the hell wants to land like that, though? Every fight is a food fight if you're a cannibal Goodness is something to be chosen. When a man cannot choose, he ceases to be a man. - Anthony Burgess

Answer's simple - marry me. You'll stay warm enough to jump all winter. Every fight is a food fight if you're a cannibal Goodness is something to be chosen. When a man cannot choose, he ceases to be a man. - Anthony Burgess -
Any of you old-timers recognize this jump? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpaIZLdnZVc Some of that deployment separation looks 'fun'. Every fight is a food fight if you're a cannibal Goodness is something to be chosen. When a man cannot choose, he ceases to be a man. - Anthony Burgess

If you got to jump today, good and I hope everything went well. If for some reason you didn't, there's just two things to keep in mind... The most common trick your instructors will pull is the old 'exit count' trick. This comes in a few different forms - "Ready, set, go"; "Ready, set, arch", etc. You definitely don't want to fall for this. Once you've done the 'Hotel check' (check in, check out), your instructors will want to know you're really ready. If you wait for the entire 3-count exit, they'll think you're nervous and probably balky. Show them how confident you are and just go on the first 'ready'. Trust me - they'll appreciate the enthusiasm you show for skydiving and will certainly encourage you to jump again. Oh yeah - the other thing... don't trust any advice you get online. Every time I've demoed one of PD's canopies at a boogie, they simply swapped it at the three-rings - risers on up. They were obviously very used to doing this as all their canopies were neatly set up with carrying bags that controlled riser orientation. They simply made sure the container was reasonably correct in size for the canopy being demoed. Come to think of it though - that Velo 79 was a bit of a loose fit... If those consesquences are so serious, then how do you explain the regular demo canopy swapping done by manufacturers? Every fight is a food fight if you're a cannibal Goodness is something to be chosen. When a man cannot choose, he ceases to be a man. - Anthony Burgess

Didn't think too much of that? Really? Anyway, best wiishes on the surgery. And on future packing classes, perhaps? After all, you don't want to find yourself unnecessarily back under the knife. Don'tcha love their logo? If that guy makes it down past the funnel cloud, he's either going to buy it by toggle-hooking a downwind landing at 20 feet, or else get scalped by Tonto in his warpaint. I guess there wasn't enough room to add in a random UFO attack. As if a simple skydive isn't risky enough. Every fight is a food fight if you're a cannibal Goodness is something to be chosen. 4-way Horny Gorilla (attempt) on the first group night jump... with Dead Bryan, who neglected to dirt-dive it with us. He broke off too soon and tracked off in an unknown direction. Our fault for not trimming the group to 3. Every fight is a food fight if you're a cannibal Goodness is something to be chosen. When a man cannot choose, he ceases to be a man. - Anthony Burgess

It seems "Oh yea, I need to wave off" was your second mistake. The first, obviously, was altitude awareness. If you're low, you have a significantly reduced need to 'wave off'. Probably not much of an audience for your antics. Every fight is a food fight if you're a cannibal Goodness is something to be chosen. For some more math fun, exactly how do you calculate "10 times more dangerous"? This is not hard, people. The FAA isn't bringing into question the METHODOLOGY of packing either main or reserve parachutes. They are simply accepting and ruling that a 180 day cycle is adequate for synthetic materials with current packing methods. Therefore, the language of the ruling is clear - a parachute packed within the 180 days prior to the effective date of the ruling is legally jumpable. Any other conclusion is based on the illogicial assumption that the same pack job performed on Dec. 19th, and will then be safe for 180 days, would not be safe if it was packed by the SAME rigger with the SAME methods a day before that. It's not a question of 'grand-fathering' a pack job, just re-categorizing it. Simply read the language of the ruling.
