Did my first jump last week.A lifetime desire/fear come true.Spent 20 years as a AF flight medic with thousands of hours on fixed and rotor wing aircraft.
Always wondered if I could do it.Talked two friends
into helping me out.Got class and practiced that day.Really,Really concerned-frightened.Still wasnt sure I could do it as we climbed out the runway.Friend Pete told me:if you can do this there nothing in life you cant do.Funny thing was that when we stood up and moved to the door i was suddenly ok.Felt good in the door going thru the count and exited on my on effort. Freefall not like anything felt before,Surprised to find we fell 2 thousand feet that fast.Went thru the drills but was defintle paying to much attention to my alltemitor.
Really watched it waiting to pull.Almost forgot to practice my pulls, but did remember and got them in.
pulled at 5500 after waving with 1 hand, line twisted spinning me around.Did control check, pulling too hard on the left scaring the hell out of myself, then flairing, stopping going backwards.Againing scaring myself. Flight in ok watching everyone else, monkey see ,monkey do.Approach ok then got close to ground.Couldnt tell what all those guys were trying to tell me about letting the brakes up then down closer to ground.Hit on feet then hands, Didnt hurt ,but nezt day looked BAD.14 fractures in hand, big cast. Well anyway thats my story. If I can talk my friend into would like to try again when they pull this thing off.Still one of the most incredible things Ive ever done. Thanks Pete/ John
