  3. That's what I said! Now that I can afford to get out there I'm taking full advantage of it. And being single again doesn't hurt a bit People keep asking when I'm getting married again. I say 'as soon as I find a chickee that can keep up!' Life is meant to be lived my friends. And I'm thankful everyday for my like minded sky jumpin buddies
  4. Time for some life advice online since this is always the most reliable information in the world.

  6. PT for about 2 hours and wear yourself out. That way youre too tired to do anything stupid. The downside is that youre too tired to do anything fun either The brave may not live forever, but the timid never live at all.
  7. There have been studies on this. I dont have the data but what it shows is that the non custodial parent (usually the dad) comes out way ahead. Raising kids is a bitch and very expensive. But there are many, many opportunity costs that go unseen. Most single moms pay through the loss of all the things that are no longer an option for them. Working overtime with no notice - not an option. Promotions after all those late nights - not happenning. So yeah, I pay a shit ton o money to support my kids. And whenever she needs more all she has to do is ask and I give it. Gladly. No questions asked. I look at it as the fee I pay for being able to jump all day, and late nights of whoring and drinking The brave may not live forever, but the timid never live at all.
  8. Hey. I'm a manly man and I'm only going to see it just to check out the jumps... I swear http://blog.movies.yahoo.com/blog/1498-transformers-wingsuits-no-cgi-required The brave may not live forever, but the timid never live at all.
  9. And does a guy become more desirable if he has very little baggage AKA kids? As far as "without baggage (kids)", well, at a certain point most of the women in your dating pool becomes divorced women, most of whom have kids. Yup, there are women that won't date a guy w/ kids but if they have kids it is more likely that they appreicate and relate to somebody with some of the same experiences they have had. Women w/ kids definitely don't consider kids baggage, neither do guys w/ kids. I disagree! I'm 41, divirced, 3 kids living with the evil person I used to know. At this point I'm a hot item for alot of reasons. PM me and Ill forward the list But regarding the kids - I refuse to date a woman with kids. I love em but I do grown up things like skydive. And besides, Im trying to do bad things to their Mom which seems to bother them. BLUF is that there are way too many single women that dont have kids to pick from. And I usually have several to pick from. Yeah baby The brave may not live forever, but the timid never live at all.
  10. I believe that the ISP says that you have to have 9K to do AFF. Dont have one handy to refrence. So I read that as until they are cleared for self supervision, hop & pops are a no-go. On another note - what does SL have to do with AFF? Why would you need to hand a student over to a SLJM? Couldnt you simply take continue the AFF progression? Just asking - my only SL experience is on the military side. We dont do SL at the DZ I jump at. The brave may not live forever, but the timid never live at all.

I wasnt trying to flame you out, bro. There are plenty of other folks that will read this. Some of them are potential coaches or those considering getting a rating. There are also plenty that truly believe that being a coach (or TM/AFFI/whatever) is all about getting free jumps and some dont ever consider the responsibility and commitment involved. I truly hate working around these type of people. So I was kind of putting it out there as food for thought for anyone thinking about doing it. 12. Please explain why you think this. Any establishment can be run in a professional manner. Anything from whore houses to crack houses to houses of worship and everything in between can make both the customers and staff feel appreciated and welcome. It all depends on how its done. First off - its not a free jump. Done correctly, coaching is work. And when youre the only coach on the DZ on a saturday afternoon, you can end up getting worked into the ground! To answer the question - no, a tip is not required or expected. Buy jump tickets (for you - not the coach) and beer (for you AND all your new best friends) instead. For me, the biggest payoff is seeing someone finally accomplish something that had been a challenge. If learning happens and I can be a part of that, then Ive had a good day at the DZ. Keep jumping and have fun. The brave may not live forever, but the timid never live at all.
  14. Im not a lawyer. Hell, I didnt even sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night. So pick apart verbage if you like - certify was probably a poor choice of words. But there are standards for DZs even if they are not enforced. And I thought (was told) that a commercial ticket was needed to fly jumpers. If I'm wrong then I stand corrected. But I'll bet money I'm not the only person that thought so! S/F The brave may not live forever, but the timid never live at all.
  15. Why does anyone think that I'm upset about anything? Like I said before - just having a chat about a skydiving story that was in the news. Hell, Ive never said that there actually WAS anything wrong. But I do think that no matter what, anyone that has read this entire thread has probably learned something about demo jumps - no? The brave may not live forever, but the timid never live at all.
  16. Dont read into what I said. Read your BSRs and FARs instead. ETA - All I'm saying here is 1 - there are requirements in order to fly jumpers (FAA) 2 - there are rules for demo jumps (USPA) Anyone disagree? The brave may not live forever, but the timid never live at all.
  17. Easy big fella! No axe grinding here - just having a chat about sky jumpin. I'm not saying that I agree or disagree, just discussing a news stroy about our sport is all. D The brave may not live forever, but the timid never live at all.
  18. Yep, you're right about what happens on the ground. But there are a few regulations that say this is illegal. The FAA decides who can do what in the air. The pilot has to be properly licensed to fly jumpers. USPA certifies that existing drop zones meet some minimum requirements in conjunction with the FAA. Anyplace other than those have to get waivers from both the FAA and USPA. This is done to ensure that the people doing the demo actually know what they are doing and do not pose a public safety threat. Search for Red Bull demo and you will see some of the politics involved in something like this. The brave may not live forever, but the timid never live at all.
  19. If USPA gave him a license then they have a say in it. SIM Chapter 7 A demonstration jump, also called a display or exhibition jump, is a jump at a location other than an existing drop zone done for the purpose of reward, remuneration, or promotion and principally for the benefit of spectators. One purpose of USPA is to promote successful demonstration jumps as part of an overall public relations program for the sport. The brave may not live forever, but the timid never live at all.
  20. Does anyone else see anything wrong here? http://msn.foxsports.com/nascar/story/NASCAR-driver-Brian-Vickers-parachutes-into-Daytona-Speedway-060111 The brave may not live forever, but the timid never live at all.
  21. Before my time Matt! But speaking of which, has anyone ever pieced together the history of skydiving instruction? I already know the 'big blue arrow' type stuff that USPA puts out. I'd like to get the some raw details concerning the how and why the program has evolved the way it did. Someone must have thought that it was a good idea at the time. Id like to look at the logic behind the decision process. The brave may not live forever, but the timid never live at all.
  22. Obviously Ive failed to explain myself here * I do not believe that coaches as currently rated should be able to do AFF jumps. * Now that thats clear - what Im suggesting is something more along the lines of what was described as the UK version. How about we make a no shit coach course that teaches spin stops, roll overs, and all of that. From there, A/JM for about 6 months or so doing what is currently considered coaching. Then, when ready, see an I/E for your AFFI rating. The brave may not live forever, but the timid never live at all.
  23. No arguments about showing up prepared. Yes people that want to teach should do those things that prepare them to be good teachers. But one can never know a persons motivations. Personally, I sat through so many first jump courses that I could teach it in my sleep. I think that USPA should allow coaches to fly reserve side on non release skydives. If the coach program is truly intended to be the proving ground for soon to be AFFIs we should treat it that way. Make it a probationary period with a minimum number of assist jumps over a period of time. Require it prior to going to the course and I believe that the 'learn it at the evaluation' thought process get eliminated. The brave may not live forever, but the timid never live at all.
  24. Well actually, they did decide that more Marines were needed (186k to 202k) and no, we didnt lower any standards. And I wont tell you how many chances someone could get. I dont want you to get concerned about national security or anything Dont get me wrong - I think that the AFFIRC needs to be changed to reflect todays reality. When preparing for mine I had to figure out on my own who could help me train for it. And just like the opinions on dz.com, everyone has a different way of doing things. The time when everyone learns to be an instructor should be during the course. Why are candidates expected to train on their own and show up to be evaluated? No where else that I know of is it done this way. For any other professional rating you go to a school to learn the trade. At the end of the course you are tested. AFFIRC is just show up and test. IMO this should be changed. The brave may not live forever, but the timid never live at all.
  25. 2 things; 1) It only goes downhill if we let it. 2) I dont need to meet someone to have an opinion of their work. The brave may not live forever, but the timid never live at all.
