Another victory for the right to bear arms
livendive replied to livendive's topic in Speakers Corner
Too bad it took so many innocent deaths to bring this about, but at least doctors and nurses can now defend themselves. Source Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew) -
Any chance Palin will hold her own during the debate?
livendive replied to freeflybella's topic in Speakers Corner
They've had her muzzled for weeks now, and the few times they do let her open her mouth, she demonstrates an absolutely mind-numbing ignorance of the issues and an even worse contempt for the average American's intelligence. She'll get many of the same people Bush got, who vote more for a smirk, wink, and "elitist" insult than an expectation of success, but I still have a couple remaining shreds of confidence that enough of my countrymen will see through the shroud and find nothing more than a beauty queen underneath. Biden's got his work cut out for him walking this tightrope, but I think he'll do OK. I'd still rather it be Colin Powell going up against her. Here's another take on her Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew) -
So rather than vote what they thought was best for America, they voted for what they thought would get them re-elected. Big surprise! Honestly though, that's about as firm a correlation as we're gonna see, and it says bad things about the quality of politicians we elect (not that Bush hasn't been shouting that lesson from the rooftops for 12 years). Because taxpayers wouldn't give up 0.7 trillion. To me that says we pretty much suck at properly assessing the value of things we buy. I still don't know well enough to form a firm opinion, but I'm leaning farther and farther away from the bailout. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

I only got 2 minutes into it. That was enough partisanship for me. Somehow I doubt she was alone in being so divisive today, but I don't consider "everybody else is doing it" to be an excuse with any more validity than CDIF. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

Would you eat ice cream made from human milk?

You should give 100% of the credit for that to the Democrats. Just ask marks2065 if you want to know why. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

That's a nice soundbite, and I'm sure it rolls easily off the tongue (or fingertips), but I haven't seen the slightest reason to believe she's any better than her predecessor. But don't forget she also "took on Big Oil" . . . by raising taxes on them. You know, like Obama wants to do but McCain doesn't? Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" Wow, your logic amazes me. 60% of the Democrats voted for it, less than 33% of the Republicans voted for it, and somehow all the blame for it not passing is on the Democrats. Does anyone else see the irony in this sort of "insult" from a so-called conservative? Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

it really sucks that the dems need to bail themselves out at our expence. if it wasn't for clinton starting this shit we would not be here today. this news article puts blame were and when it should be put. http://newsbusters.org/blogs/p-j-gladnick/2008/09/25/1999-ny-times-article-revealed-true-cause-current-fannie-mae-crises i don't know how to make it a clicky sorry. but this is good reading. Pity that theory has been totally discredited by the facts of this crisis. what facts? that McCain tried to stop this with a bill in 2005, but in 2006 the dem controlled congress kick it out. The simplest of fact checking shows the Republicans controlled the House and the Senate in 2005 and 2006. So tell us again why this didn't pass in 2005 or 2006. Ya. That's a shopped pic btw. But the media never flavors the reporting towards the mood of fear, eh? I kinda suspected it might be shopped, just because of the lighting, but it still evokes exactly the right sentiment.

Last I checked, the GOP controlled the legislature from January 2005 to January 2007 and the White House from January 2001 to present. It also seems to me that it's mostly Wall Street investors who need this bailout, which is not exactly the DNC's core demographic But if you want to believe it's the Democrats who need bailing out from the mess they made despite being the minority party for the last decade, well, believe whatever helps you sleep at night. Just don't try to convince the rest of us that your boys are perfectly innocent, because that just makes you look silly. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

No one said anything about shooting anyone in self defense. You proposed preemptive execution, shooting a "rapist" before he/she rapes. He didn't specify who would be doing the shooting. At first I read it the way you did, but on review it makes more sense that he was referring to would-be victims. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

Help me try to understand this re: Blacks voting for Obama
livendive replied to Muenkel's topic in Speakers Corner
Gore got 90% of black votes in 2000. Kerry got 88% of black votes in 2004. I don't recall those votes being characterized as racist. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew) -

One more child molester off the street. I was involved!

Really? Tell us everything you know about the entrapment defense. I'll let you go first. You have this tendency to insert a sort of smugness in your posts. Do you know that? You mean when he's talking about stuff that he knows about in intimate detail from years of education and experience to a bunch of folks who are utterly clueless about said details but have read a good 0.01% of internet pages on the topic? I'm sure it looks like "smugness" to you. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew) -

What he said. I've seen first hand what it's like to watch child molestors walk, but this was a silly way to attack the problem, given the slim chance it'll be effective. I applaud your motive but not your means. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew) -
Ha ha! Yep, he was my first thought on seeing the score.

I think making *reasonable* attempts to help folks keep a modest house to live in is more palatable than making any attempts to help people keep a second or third house. Roof over the head = basic need Rental properties = luxury Blues, Dave The modest (2-3 bedrooms) houses I've seen for sale have all listed for $800-1.4M. If some one stretched for one of those even though they couldn't afford fully amortized payments but could squeak by on an option arm instead of buying a $500K condo or renting a $1500-$2K/month apartment do they deserve to be bailed out? Or should the government let the forclosure happen and prices fall 80% to their long term inflation-adjusted average price which has held steady apart from a few small peaks so that people who had enough self control to stay out of the market craziness can once again afford homes? Witholding hosues from the people who behaved themselves seems less fair to me. While I didn't restate my position in the post you quoted, I did say upthread that I believe the maximum "bailout" homeowners should receive is help reworking their loans to interest rates appropriate for their credit rating. Do I correctly understand the question you're asking is whether folks who can't afford "fully amortized" payments, i.e. they couldn't afford the payment on a 30-year fixed with even 0% interest should be bailed out? I absolutely think those folks should go back to renting something they can afford. The fact that this would make home prices more reasonable is a nice bonus, but I'd have the same opinion regardless of that. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
