  1. OK, No upsets in the first 4 games, but as of right now: an 11 seed (W.Mich) leading a 6 seed (Vandy) 14 seed (N. Iowa) trails 2 seed (Georgia Tech) by only 1 13 seed (E.Tenn) trails 3 seed (Cinci) by 3 15 seed (E.Wash) trails 2 seed (OK.St.) by 2 ALL in the second half! Crazy! 2. Really? How'd that position fair at Nuremberg? This guy is within his rights to refuse to go back. The military is also within its' rights to punish him appropriately for such a refusal. Blues, Dave The reason it didnt work at nuremberg was caseue those crimes were war crimes. Crimes against humaity.... anyone of those officers tried there knew what they were doing. And they knew it was wrong. And this guy believes these orders to be wrong. I don't know if he's thrown the "war crimes" bomb out there, but I don't see the relevance. I have been in the military and understand the difference between civilian law and the UCMJ. Perhaps "right" was a poor choice of words on my part. My point was that if he believes his orders to be morally wrong, he may refuse them. Similarly the military may punish him for that refusal. In any case, AWOL doesn't typically garner any hard labor time, much less years of it. That's irrelevant though, as he's currently being considered for desertion, a totally different crime and one which carries a much stiffer penalty. Anyhow, I imagine his punishment will include reduction in rate to E-1 and an other-than-honorable discharge. He might have to spend 30 days in the brig first, but I doubt he'll get much more than that. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  3. I think that approach might have a problem with regard to small rural schools (e.g. those with only double-digit graduating classes). Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  4. Not only his talents, but also his lack thereof (his poor free throw shooting led to the away-from-the-play foul rule). Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

  8. I did not go around yelling anything, nor did I mention the word "MUTILATION". I do however think there's a similarity between removing most of the foreskin and removing most of the clitoris, at least philosophically, and somewhat in physicality. Outside of the obvious difficulty in proving that (the number of people with a properly wired penis and clitoris is zero or darn close to it), it's tough to get a good answer because circumcised men don't know what uncircumcised men feel and vice versa. Someone who's been circumcised as an adult might be able to provide some insight, however there's a good chance their opinion would be biased in favor of circumcision, assuming it was done for religious reasons. As for your statement that "circumcised men live their lives very much like the uncircumcised ones", well of course they do in matters of action (urination, sex, etc), but I'm not sure the same can be said on sensory issues. Then again I have no way of knowing. Blues, Dave P.S. Realise that some of us don't get the "valid religious reasons" for circumcision in the same way we don't get "valid tribal reasons" for female genital mutilation, i.e. both justifications are equally absurd. 9. I voted no. If it were a girl would you be asking whether you should subject her to a clitorectomy? Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  10. Presumably you talked altitude with them? I thought "balloon rides" were typically at a much lower altitude than lifts specifically for balloon jumps. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  11. Syracuse wins 80-75. Close damn games but only one upset so far, putting my bracket at 6-1. I picked 5 upsets in the first round but only two of those games are scheduled for today. "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  12. 1 game down, 1 game wrong on my bracket. Oh well, I had the winner of this game losing to Wake anyhow, so it's not like a bracket buster. Still, I was torn between Manhattan and Murray State as an upset 12-seed and really thought about switching to Manhattan when Murray's #2 scorer was suspended a couple days ago. Guess I should have. 13. I'm pretty conservative on most social issues. I think people should be free to say what they want, read what they want, use drugs, get abortions, own guns, marry as they see fit, and just generally pursue happiness in whatever way they see fit, provided it doesn't intrude on others' freedom to do the same. I guess I'm fairly moderate on economic issues. I'd like to see us (our government) pay off our bills and then restrict ourselves to break even/surplus spending except in national emergencies. I don't like seeing massive industry bail-outs. If they can't cut the mustard let 'em fail and be replaced. I like a reasonable amount of welfare type assistance (social security, welfare, unemployment, medical assistance), key word being reasonable. I'm pretty liberal when it comes to laws that prevent one person/company from preventing other people/companies from pursuing happiness. Environmental laws are necessary, as are fraud laws. I'm on the fence with regard to anti-trust issues. In any case, individual and corporate crimes that harm others should be strongly punished. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" 14. Nice try Ron. Do you research this stuff or just believe whatever you read on some web page that supports four more years of the current idiot? I guess it's possible you were intentionally trying to mislead us, but I'll assume that's not the case. FYI - S.1415 was the Universal Tobacco Settlement Act. Senator Gramm added Amendment No. 2436, "to modify the provisions relating to civil liability for tobacco manufacturers, and to eliminate the marriage penalty reflected in the standard deduction and to ensure the earned income credit takes into account the elimination of such penalty. " Oh well, go ahead and paint Kerry's vote against the tobacco settlement as a vote against the poor married couples if you want. Just don't expect to be considered any more credible than any of the other Bushwacks. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  15. That's a good question, and one better directed at your right-wing theocracy supporters than me. The rest of your argument is pretty disingenuous. You know Kerry has stepped out against gay marriage and has supported "civil unions." I'm sure you also know that most people see a difference between the two. As evidence, see all the people who don't get their panties in a bunch over corporate domestic partnership benefits, but seem to think that one couple getting married in San Francisco will somehow destroy their marriage in Wichita. Bush himself, in calling for the constitutional amendment said "Today I call upon the Congress to promptly pass, and to send to the states for ratification, an amendment to our Constitution defining and protecting marriage as a union of man and woman as husband and wife. The amendment should fully protect marriage, while leaving the state legislatures free to make their own choices in defining legal arrangements other than marriage. " On that we agree. Unfortunately our government thinks its sacred religious implement that should be financially rewarded (as long as it's a "normal" marriage, not one of those deviant mormon or muslim variants). Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  16. Check the actual words. versus These quotes are both consistent with each other and his recent statements that he opposes same-sex marriage but supports "civil unions." FYI - Kerry is a far cry from being "my pal". He's just not as dangerous to our nation as Bush is, by a few orders of magnitude. I'd cast my vote with the Libertarian party if I weren't so vehemently opposed to 4 more years of the current idiot. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

Try Tennessee Skydiving Center and check the directions. I can see where it would be easy to confused though...it puts "Skydive Nashville" on the browser header thingamajig. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  18. May 18th, 1980 - I was in Sunday school in Des Moines, WA when Mount St. Helens blew up maybe 50-60 miles to the south of us. Went home & listened to the radio all day (we didn't own a TV). Challenger explosion - was in my computer science class in high school, watching the launch. Our teacher in that class had gone very deep in the competition that put McAullife aboard. He nearly fainted, slumped in his chair, put his head down and didn't say a word the rest of the period. I went home after that class & spent the day watching CNN. Tiananmen Square - Aboard an amphib ship (troop carrier) in the Pacific Ocean. We were sent cruising north to go evacuate American citizens from China but ended up not being needed. Never did see the TV footage. Waco - Watching CNN with my grandmother. Oklahoma City - I was at work at a National Lab. Nobody knew what was going on at first, they ended up sending all employees home & closing the streets around our local Federal Building. Went home, watched CNN all day. September 11, 2001 - We were just waking up. Wished my g/f happy birthday. As she headed for the shower she told me the radio had just mentioned something about a plane hitting the WTC. I laid there and listened and heard them say the other tower had just been hit. Grabbed g/f, headed upstairs to the TV and watched the towers fall. Went to DZ & told the DZO, then watched with him for awhile. Went to work at the same national lab for a couple hours till they sent us all home. Went home & watched CNN until the evening, then tried (not very successfully) to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday. I don't think we went to work the next day either. Columbia Explosion - At a card shop getting ready for a Magic tournament. Friends I was meeting there who are bigger geeks than me were late, and told me they had been watching TV & what had happened. Went to a bar & watched CNN for awhile. Yeah, ya gotta love "Tennessee Skydiving Center" (etc.) I especially like this part on their webpages "Due to the high level of experience of our instructors, and our use of the best equipment available, we can accommodate persons weighing as much as 285 LBS. There are hand full of small part time operators in the south east U.S. will impose strict weight limits and will not take persons weighing over 239lbs. Although you may not weigh this much this should be a concern as it is an indication of lack of experience and or the modern equipment necessary to handle larger individuals which puts you closer to the limit of their experience or equipment. " In other words, the fact that they'll take fat people on tandems proves they're safer. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  20. Kinda like when Bush said that gay marriage was an issue best left to the states (February 2000) Or when he said “If you overspend, it creates a fundamental weakness in the foundation of economic growth. And so I'm working with Congress to make sure they hear the message -- the message of fiscal responsibility.” (September 2002) Blues, Dave How about "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" 23. Yeah, I just read that...maybe Manhattan is the better 12 seed to advance. Oh well, I filled the bracket out in ink. Hey, what the hell is an Illini anyhow? Anything like a Ute?
  24. My bracket is completely filled out. I'm sad to inform you that I've got Murray State as the sole advancing 12 seed, though I did have to give Manhattan significant consideration. On the plus side, at least I don't have Duke making the Final Four...that slot will be occupied by Mississippi State. My Elite Eight games should all be great... Duke vs. Mississippi St. (Miss.St. advances) Wake Forest vs. Pittsburgh (Tough pick, I'm going with Pitt) Kentucky vs. Georgia Tech (I've got Kentucky as the only 1-seed in the Final Four and winning it all) Stanford vs. Connecticut (I'm taking U.Conn. and they'll lose to Kentucky after beating Miss.St.) Then again it's possible none of those 8 will still be alive. Cincinnati might upset Duke, Louisville/Xavier both have a decent shot at Miss.St. Stanford's gotta go through Syracuse/Maryland and NC.St. could bump out U.Conn. OK.St. has a reasonable shot at winning the NJ bracket, and St. Joe's only falls by upset. UW has been playing hot enough to pose a threat to KY and Gonzaga just might take the St. Louis bracket. Wa-hoo! :-) Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  25. That would be Lee Silcox, a good friend of mine. FYI his son's name is Brad. That's Lynette Marshall from Yakima, another friend of mine. Her boyfriend is Paul Taylor (aka "Tall Paul") and he also lives in Yakima now (moved there from Boise). They bought a 182 and fly down to jump with us quite regularly (including yesterday). In addition to being great people, all three of them (Lee, Lynette, and Paul) are very skilled jumpers. Paul was on the 247-way a few years ago, and Lee turned down his invite for that one.
