This video is pretty long, but also pretty eye opening. Just skipping forward a minute or two at a time is impressive, and at the end, wirelessly playing Nintendo 64 games on an LG TV using a wireless Wii remote, well...lol My wife is an Apple fangirl, and she'll probably be getting a new iPhone, but only because she's used to the OS, not because she thinks it has cooler features than my GS3. Romney Claims He Is Unqualified To Be President
livendive replied to jclalor's topic in Speakers Corner
Either you misunderstood or I misstated my position. I'm not suggesting that Romney cheated on his taxes. I think the tax code that says he should pay taxes at the rate of someone grossing 0.2% (1/500th) of him is fundamentally flawed, given that folks grossing 1% of him are paying close to twice that rate. All those details you posted are part of what I think is the problem. I think deductions for local taxes are great, but the rest of that stuff is the kind of vote-buying that has unnecessarily complicated our tax code. FWIW - I don't think donations to churches (or any charitable organization) should be tax deductible unless said organization can show *tangible* charitable output at a rate greater than say, 50% of gross receipts. By tangible, I mean something more than counseling, be it food, coats, housing assistance, healthcare, etc. Yes, the 50% is just a number I pulled out of the sky, but when I'm picking charities, I look at their costs as a percentage of their production, and if they're keeping most of the money they get just to keep the doors open, I don't think they should be tax-exempt. That's probably too far off-topic to be relevant, I'm just throwing it out there. Not having tithed in many years, I honestly don't know whether those donations are tax-deductible, but I don't think they should be. If a church has a charitable outreach, let it organize that as its own 501c, but the part that just goes to pay for the preacher, and his car, and new church facilities, and a private school, and a TV network...that stuff is essentially for-profit in my book. I know one person who makes a very nice living running his own (secular) 501c, including traveling the US on all sorts of adventure vacations, and while I admire his stated goals, I'm opposed to the basic premise of his tax-exempt status. No, that would be a transformer. An inverter changes DC to AC. Yeah, that was a type-o. I meant 120V, not sure how I ended up with 24V. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

I'll try that. Any reason why it won't work when it's plugged into my garage? And the lights and pump were working a few weeks ago as well. And does this mean I'll need a new converter? And where the hell would that little devil be located? You probably know what an inverter is...it changes 12V to 24V...like the little things you can plug into a cigarette lighter in order to charge a cell phone, run a laptop, etc. A converter does the opposite, switches 120V AC to 12V DC. Your garage is feeding your trailer AC, just like your house uses, so the microwave, TV, air conditioning, and anything else that runs off "regular"power should work. However the lights, fans, water pump, and anything else that normally works when you're not plugged in runs on 12V DC, and that's where your problem is. Before replacing your converter, check the main power fuse and circuit breakers...if 120V isn't getting to the converter, there's nothing for it to convert. Wherever your fuse panel is inside the trailer, your converter is behind it, or (more likely) an integral part of it. I just winterized this afternoon, and I have a similar but lesser problem. Plugged in, everything works, and if I put a charger on the battery and top it off, everything works unplugged. My problem is that my converter seems to send 12V to all my fixtures (and I can hear it humming when I turn lights on while plugged in). However my converter does NOT seem to charge the battery. I'm not sure how to troubleshoot that, and I'd rather not replace the whole panel, as I just want to sell the trailer at the first opportunity. Anyone got any suggestions? US Presidential candidate thinks USA is a foreign country
livendive replied to kallend's topic in Speakers Corner
The original post is kind of silly, as the error has no effect. That said, if you don't think Romney is responsible for the actions of accountants that he employs, then Obama has no responsibility for the Fast and Furious controversy. Romney Claims He Is Unqualified To Be President
livendive replied to jclalor's topic in Speakers Corner
Bold added by me. Blues, Dave Taxes are only paid on taxable income, hence the reason I differentiated that in the calculation. Using the gross income as the denominator and then crying that someone is paying such a low tax rate is nonsense. If that's your opinion, than you should have no problem with the people who pay zero taxes, as they have zero taxable income. Personally, I'd like to see a lot fewer deductions for everyone...they're being abused as a form of welfare for those with any income. It's just that instead of writing us a check, we're forgiving a portion of debt owed. If I owed you a thousand bucks, and you said "meh, just give me $600 and we'll call it good", you've effectively given me $400. Also, I think the wealthy should pay taxes at a rate at least as high as those making a small fraction of their income. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew) -
Romney Claims He Is Unqualified To Be President
livendive replied to jclalor's topic in Speakers Corner
Except that's exactly what he did, donated over 4 million to charities but only claimed 2.25 million of it in order to keep his tax rate up where he said it was. The charitable donations are admirable. The tax code that says a guy making over 13 million should pay taxes at a rate half that of someone making 1% of him sucks. The posturing with his deductions isn't nefarious, just kind of silly, but I'm curious how he squares it with the quote in the original post... Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" Absolutely, hey one of us had to! I figure we should work to our strong points, so she can take care of all the "look pretty" stuff, while I keep to somewhat simpler tasks more suited to my skill set. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

QuoteDrDive officiated? Quote Yep! And all three groomsmen and two of the three bridesmaids have posted on dz.com. Actually, since me and my guys are all TIs, we thought about bringing the girls in, but they wanted mimosas and to look fancy and we wanted beer, so we did it the old fashioned way. Except what he said was 47% are voting for Obama because they consider themselves victims, refuse to take responsibility for their lives, are dependent on the government for their food, shelter, etc, and consider these entitlements that they are owed. I prefer Obama over Romney, and none of these statements are true of me. The same goes for all of my pro-Obama friends, none of whom are on the dole. It appears to me that Romney has a dim view of Americans that is ridiculously inaccurate. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

Obama condemns killing of U.S. ambassador to Libya
livendive replied to jclalor's topic in Speakers Corner
No. It's why I accounted for the possibility that Stevens himself approved the release. It would change my opinion significantly. Romney was criticizing a response to violence that came before said violence. Unless Romney believes they had a time machine, his entire suggestion that the press release was an apology in response to violence which had not yet occurred is illogical. The press release condemned the making of a movie designed to be hurtful. That's no worse than condemning Westboro Baptists. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew) -
Obama condemns killing of U.S. ambassador to Libya
livendive replied to jclalor's topic in Speakers Corner
I hold the vidiot responsible for his action - making an inflammatory video I hold the mob responsible for the violence and murder - that's their actions I refuse to excuse the mob for their actions by laying it on the vidiot the individuals of that mob are clearly not a part of 'humanity' as we know it For what it's worth, there are reports out now that the mob was effectively a smoke screen that a terrorist group used to intentionally get the ambassador moving so they could take him out. If true, than the mobs aren't really guilty of much more than our own 'occupy wall street' types. The murders themselves maybe have come from an entirely different element. Obama condemns killing of U.S. ambassador to Libya
livendive replied to jclalor's topic in Speakers Corner
Yep. I hate to break this to you, but when Ollie North was running wild, Reagan was his boss and Reagan had to deal with it. Hillary Clinton is the supervisor. The President is her supervisor. Shit rolls uphill, and when you're the boss you take on the responsibility. if you're going to take credit for a few guys killing bin Laden in Pakistan then you also live with taking the blame for press releases by your subordinates. It's the nature of the game. What will change my opinion? If it comes out that Stevens approved the released statement then I'll give that due weight. But since the policy of the Administration has seemed to be one of appeasement, then a review of world history indicates the grave danger that appeasement poses. Did you miss the part I bolded? I'm currently unaware of anything inappropriate in the press release at the time it was given. I'm waiting to see Obama's response, but I'm guessing it will be more deliberate and measured than Romney's itchy trigger finger trying to score political points. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew) -
Without a doubt humans do influence the planet's ecology, but I am a skeptic that humans are solely responsible for our ever changing climate and I thoroughly believe in evolution. In fact I believe in evolution so much that I have a strong belief that life on this planet will continue to evolve for billions and billions more years up until the point when that great big ball in the sky 93 million miles from us burns up. Only when that great big ball in the sky begins it's path to it's end will life on this planet cease to exist. Yes I believe in evolution. But my question to you is, with your obvious "Climate Change" religious beliefs, why have you given up on evolution? Do you honestly believe live on this planet is about to end? Good grief ... I believe you have the survival skills to survive a house fire. If not, your survivorss will at least be able to learn from your mistakes and be better for it. So why not burn your house down? That's a pretty entertaining web page. Theoretically pro-environment, but don't anti-rain forest, climate change skeptic, in favor of killing endangered speciens, opposed to cap & trade. Basically it's an anti-environment webpage that tries to dress itself up in pro-environment words. lol Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

President Obama's speech was...and the job report means....
livendive replied to mirage62's topic in Speakers Corner
I actually thought it was a solid speech, at least in the message. Very JFK-esque, encouraging voters to recognize that we need to stop with all the free lunches, lift ourselves up where we can, and help others up when they need it. I made a post some time ago, maybe last year, stating something similar...that people need to quit being so fucking selfish and screaming "me, me, me!" at our politicians, and instead look at what cuts we could each make if it would help the country become solvent again. Also, a hole that takes 40 years to dig cannot be filled in 4. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
