  1. Hi john So whats the real story. Wild and crazy sex from the chandelier and it broke loose from ceiling. And you ended up on the bottom of pile. R
  2. hi Jerry "With all due respect" I suggest you go back and read the ad. The 28 foot round for under $30 is "brand new in the mfg. box." Think shelf life and expiration date. Some of the "new" sleeves sold in a complete rigs weren't worth a crap. No mil spec so the dealers used whatever materials they wanted. Some had a reputation of the pilots chute and the top of the sleeve separating from the lower part that contained the canopy. Replacing those types of sleeves was a no brainer even if they were new. R.
  3. But.....I'll bet you aren't having any more fun than we did! Well....maybe it just seemed like more fun....looking back forty years. After all, those were the good old days! I guess I don't miss hard landings, multiple malfunctions, rear PLF's on wind days, dangerous aircraft, few rules, friends who bounced....maybe I need to rethink things. It was definitely more dangerous to jump back then. But at the risk of being a negative old fart......Maybe everything isn't better today. I really think there were fewer jumpers who thought they were too good to jump with a newbie, back then. More experienced jumpers often jumped with the less experienced jumpers to help train them. They didn't consider it a wasted jump. They didn't expect to get paid for it. I think things have become a lot more clickish today, and that may be one thing that is a detriment to modern day skydiving. I know of many who have quit the sport because of this factor alone..... Back in the day, we all jumped together, and we partied together. Being a Newbie was nothing to be embarrassed by. You didn't have to be a sky-god to hang out with more experienced jumpers. There just seemed to be a different attitude then...... Am I the only one who feels that? With all due respect I agree with you 100% Also peeps need to remember that military surplus doesn't necessarily mean used. It could still be new from the factory, just exceeded the shelf life or just no longer needed.. Govt regs are regs. R
  4. Want to lose 40 lbs the easy way Cut off your head. On a more serious note, the human body has a built in defense mechanism, During times of famine the body automatically will consume calories more efficiently. Eat less the body goes in famine mode the calories are harder to burn off. What took you 10 yrs to gain, isn't going to go away in 6 months. Buy everything everything XXXL. Your clothes shrinks in the closet without even being washed and dried. Its a conspiracy against old folks. One Jump Wonder

Hi AJ I resemble that remark. R.I.P.
  7. We ended up in the E.R. after consuming a pt or two of chilled thunderbird. Still remember the intake nurse asking me to stop bleeding on her desk and take a seat to wait my turn. ***Whats the word? Thunder bird. Whats the price? 50 twice. Who drink the most? Insert The ethnic minority or social class of you choice. Spit, spit, screw you I do (1967dude from east phili) A few to many of those Thunderbird hangovers while still in high school cured me of any desire to drink any booze except for the occasional cold heini on a hot day. 8. Add the Fulton missouri airport and dz to your list. Its gone. The dz at edgerton ks home of KaMo skydivers is long gone. I could go thru my paper log books and come up with a short list of dzs that are gone. But whats the point. Basically I suspect the majority of the smaller dzs from back in the day are gone. No big, just the natural evolution of time. We still have our log books, some faded pictures, and our memories. For now.We can still give a shout and see who we can dig up , we can still get to get together, party, tell lies. Etc in cyber space, or in the real world. Just not at a dz that no longer exist. The major players on both coasts and in between are still operating in one form or another.of course. Time to take a nap R.I.P
  9. Hi senior jumpers Until the pea gravel thread. I really have no first hand experience landing in sawdust. I can imagine the yuck factor of getting sawdust everywhere, In spite of being a organic product, if the dz is located close enough to a sawmill the natural organic decay might not be to much of a issue, depending on local weather conditions. What I'm trying to say is I want to know from the seniors what they know about about the use of sawdust on the dz for a landing area. How often it had to be topped off. How did it compare to pea gravel to dissipate the landing impact, the odor if any. Etc etc. If we don't document this piece of jumping history now, it may be lost Forever. There may even be some dzs in the world that still use sawdust for a landing area. Due to special local conditions. Don't be shy, spill the beans or sawdust. LOL R.I.P.
  10. I'm astounded that any college students can afford skydiving, especially enough of them to form a club. Wow. Good for you if you can make it work! College loans... College loans.? Thats some funny shit and the worst advice I, ve heard since a TM suggested it to a potential student. Do you understand the concept of cradle to beyond the grave debt that a cosigner of your loan will be stuck with after your dead. It, s a debt that even bankruptcy won't be able to erase. Some people used to think of their income tax overpayment as free money, now its been replaced by the student loan. R.I.P. debt that even declareing One Jump Wonder

  12. Hi mr g You did what. Wle heard about the shelf life of silk canopies, it's about half of nylon. How long was that.? We found another little treasure of my Fil from thr greatest generation. Did you smoke cigs b ack in the day? Found a silver lookinng box, it slid open, there was clip to hold the matches and the rest of the inside was for a pack of cigs but it looked to short. We tried a modern pack of cigs they fit but were to long. Scratchedhead scratched butt, damn that container was for unfiltered pack of cigs. Gotta take a nap. R.I.P. . One Jump Wonder
  13. Bed spread has arrived but the documtation is less than I was hoping for. I'll do more research and if I can find what Im looking for I'll broach the subject again. One of his jobs before the war was a glue applicator, for building wooden props. I would have preferred leaning about making wood props. He was a excellent wood worker and electrican Picture of the bed spread, sorry still don't know how to post them. HI Bill You've given me a idea. Since they were actually making wood props in that neck of the woods. Those poor folks don't move around very much. I'll take my boss with me and we'll talk to the dualing banjo dudes , chew the fat etc. Your related to who , wasnt her mo***m.married to so and so. Who knows what the cat dragged in and where it went. If we find just one wooden prop in adequate shape. We, 'll buy it in a heartbeat. If we find two we, ll hang both of them on our wall and have dualing wooden props. I would be honoured to just talk with someone that made wooden props back in the day from the greatest generation, talk about their production runs etc. Anyone know what a half a dime is? No its not a nickle R. I.P. One Jump Wonder

  16. He won't be answering. Now we can get back to welcoming nygirl. Yay! Best post ever! Goonie couldn't hold a light against the Shah aka #2. 2-3 yrs listening to him insulting women wining about same thing every day. When he finely crossed the line to far on the record hi alt jump and insulted a living skydiving legend. The switch was flipped post haste. That was a marvelous post. This the net there will be another, goonie, -joey-, #2 whatever to replace him. On a more positive note there is the artist duck lady. A first stop for any one. 18. 1941? On 1 September 1939, Germany and Slovakia (which was a German client state at the time) invaded Poland. On 3 September France and Britain, followed by the fully independent Dominions of the British Commonwealth, – Australia, Canada, New Zealand and South Africa – declared war on Germany. With all due respect, the dance did not start with the singular event in Hawaii. You guys just showed up fashionably late to the Prom. With all due respect, and in the spirit of cooperaion I hate to confuse the issue with the facts. But I have a couple of simple questions to ask you if your not to busy.

  20. The US was gearing up for the war for a long time. Just because we did not show up early did not mean we were not involved. Remember, there are many ways to fight a war. I think the Commonwealth forces might choose to differ with yourconsideration that 1939 would be considered "early". Aphid I've got two specific question 1 why couldnt couldn't you resist braking the basic rule of this forum But yes, the Lend-Lease program that was formalized in early '41 and designed to bypass the US Neutrality Act was indeed a contribution. Isolationists were strongly opposed, warning it would lead to American involvement in what was seen by most Americans as an essentially European conflict. Fortunately your President Roosevelt understood the advantage of helping fund the war against Germany, while staying out of the hostilities yourselves. In June of '41, a small number of your forces assembled in Newfoundland, Canada, and a month later moved on to occupy Iceland by mid-July to free up the British forces stationed there. In the autumn of '41, US warships joined Royal Canadian Navy corvettes in protection/defense of the North Atlantic convoys of materials and food destined for Britain. I'm not diminishing the contribution of the USA in the ultimate resolution of the conflict. But world-history does record it wasn't just all about you. This thread began with an inquiry about parachutes early in the war. I apologize for derailing it, but I simply wanted to correct a misstatement by one of the contributors. I also happen to have a military round that some elderly woman gave me a few years ago, prominently stamped "US Navy, 1941". I'm no fabric expert, but it does look like silk to my untrained eye. 21. Hi Jerry Remember me KRIP you contacted me and wanted to meet for lunch well in the old days we would have invited you to our home for lunch no question asked. But those days are gone, for once I listened to the voice in my head and met you at a restaurant. Now I know why

  23. When you stay married to the same person for 40 yrs its a double edge sword. People go thru the natural cycyle. It doesnt make any difference how much money you have, how well you take care of yourself etc. I watched in horror a 81 yo energizer bunny, that I wouldn't even try to keep up with go down slow and dirty. 90 days of needless hell. As soon as this women recd the news. She took it like a trooper. Well I guess thats that. I want the needle. Sorry we can't do that. It is what it is. Your now with my wifes dad and my wifes twin sisterthat you lost in childbirth. I lost my inlaws and I still have the one and only wife I wanted, because her parents taught her basic family values, and after 40 yrs in hindsight I have no complaints. And I would be proud to do it again in a heartbeat. R.I.P. Sorry we can't do that. Check out my profile, respect my wifes and our privacy during our grieving process. The people that count in my world know who Betty Barnes is and who I am. I trust that skymama will keep her word, another trooper. Does anyone one really want to mess with skymama. I know I wouldn't.
