  1. How about Skyfest? Can we get a group to come to Houston? Last year there was Skyvan, Otters, Helicopter, Balloon, and Ultra Light. Blue skies, Jim

  3. The wings container measurement that is most different is the location of the hip rings. They are higher than most other manaufacturers and designed to flex at the waist to avoid flexing the harness below the handles like some others do, Blue skies, Jim
  4. Mary: Tom J has a new 8-way team with a new group of jumpers that have not particpated in 8-way before. Most of them did the 4-way TSL last year on various teams. In addition, Jack had several people drop off the team for various reasons (moved, no longer competing, injury, etc.) The new Deguello looks very strong and is having a lot of fun. 5. No pics of me and Steve? I am sure we were there somewhere, sometime...at least I thought we were there. Maybe that grean boa that you made me weare and that lite up was all in my imagination!!! Blue skies, Jim
  6. Interesting article about Vietnam. It totally omits the fact that as soon as the Vietnamese Communists determined that the Japanese were losing the war in Southeast Asia, they began to murder the leaders and members of the other Vietnamese Nationalist parties to eliminate any and all political competition. Sounds like terrorism to me. FYI, one reason the Eisenhower administration did not back the 1954 elections was that it was felt that the South did not have the depth of leadership to simultaneously build the country and fight a war. There was a lot of corruption and graft and not much government infrastructure to solve the problems. In 1968, the North Vietnamese Communists did it again. They convinced the South Vietnamese Communists (Viet Cong) that all they had to do was display power and the people of the South would rise up with them and defeat the Diem regime and the Americans. Unfortunately for the South Vietnamese Communists when they openly launched the Tet Offensive they were slaughtered by the thousands. They became an ineffective fighting force after Tet and even though the war was lost by the South because of the change in American "opinion" after Tet, the Viet Cong ended up with little or no power and they in effect lost the war at the same time to the NVA. Of course there was still a raging war, but it was increasingly fought by NVA mainline troops instead of the local guys. Blue skies, Jim

  11. They would like to come, but I think they are training for the World Games in Germany in June or July. It's been a bad winter in Houston with lots of rain so they are behind where they want to be...but you never know. One or two may show up! Blue skies, Jim
  12. I would request numbers and dates of manufacture. That way searches could be done both ways. Only cost I see is NT web host (Media3.com is about $284 for one year). Database can be Access with web front end. Should really be simple. Blue skies, Jim
  13. I had about 20 jumps and was doing my 2nd jump at Spaceland. Was 4th or 5th out doing a solo. I think the rental canopy was a 190 which put my wingloading at less than 1:1. With the South wind I was not making much headway back to the dz, but (mistake 1) was saying "I think I can make it" to myself. I did not (mistake 2) select an alternative landing site. As I got to about 100 ft, I (mistake 3) saw the fence hidden between the trees and knew I wouldn't make it. I (mistake 4) did a hard 90 turn to the left and tried to land on a canal bank that is 4-5 feet above the landing area. I (mistake 5) struck the ground with my chest about the same time as the canopy, went airborne for 10-15 feet, flipped through the lines and landed head down, on my back in the canal. As I was being dragged backwards into the water, I grabbed (mistake 6) some vines and managed to hold on, thinking cutaway the whole time) until hooknswoop popped up over the embankment and asked if I was ok and got me out of the harness. Most of the mistakes are obvious except #6...the vines were poison ivy and I got it all over my neck and arms. I was very, very lucky. Blue skies, Jim
  14. The good news is that it won't be the same as when they put them in! >> Blue skies, Jim

  16. Hello everyone, This is an invitation for a 4-way scrambles event Saturday February 26th at Skydive Spaceland. It is beautiful outside and time to get out and jump again! Last year we had 10 teams and beautiful weather, so we are looking to repeat the weather and have more teams this year and the dropzone is offering $16 jumps for the event. The plan is to: --Be ready to jump at 8:30AM Saturday --Make six 4-way jumps from 13K with 50 seconds of working time using the intermediate dive pool --Jumps will be judged --Cost is $135 to cover jumps, video, judging + $10 for the cash prize pool that gets divided straight back to the winners --Winning team members split a cash prize pool (it will be a 70-20-10% split for the top 3 teams) -- Alti-2 has already donated a 30% off a Neptune for one lucky person and there will hopefully be more to come from other vendors --Afterwards everyone can get together for some 8,10,20-ways --You will need to put $120 on your account before 8:30AM Saturday and bring $25 cash ($10 for prize pool and $15 video fee) --bring a VHS tape for a copy of your jumps You must reserve your slot by contacting Angela Hale at 713-213-0349 (angeladhale@yahoo.com) by Thursday Feb 24th at noon to participate. Please include your experience level (jump #, teams) in your e-mail or message. The sooner you let me know, the better! Call or e-mail with any questions. Come and join the fun - Angela P.S. Please feel free to pass this along to anyone you think might be interested. We would love to have them!

  21. One of our jumpers started med school about 18 months ago. He brought his rig in for a repack, called us 6 mos later and said to have it repacked again, then he showed up 6 mos after that to pick it up AFTER it had been repacked a third time. Said he would be back the next weekend to jump. That was almost 6 weeks ago... Blue skies, Jim
  22. Older??? They are only 1 or 2 years apart. Which one is the older one? Blue skies, Jim
  23. I don't have any info on commitment level, but my experience with organizers is that once you sign up they want you for the day/event. Chris any idea of what Guy is expecting? Blue skies, Jim
  24. One of my brother's had a loose tooth. I talked him into letting me pull it. He and my mom were so upset they forgot to ask me for it so I put it under my pillow. Damn fairy put the 25 cents under his pillow and left me a note that had one word on it...BAD! Blue skies, Jim
