PC-105... Where the hell is it?????
scottbre replied to skydivegirl's topic in Photography and Video
Cool. Good for you. You'll be happy with it. I really like mine. -
I agree with Wildblue. If the talkback forum were up I'd start a poll on who all wanted to just get rid of it all together. That forum alone probably costs him more money on bandwidth than any of the other other forums, and it is by far the most useless waste of bandwidth on the whole site. I say get rid of it, sangiro. That should save you enough money for a couple extra jumps each month, and this site's main draw could actually be for things relating to skydiving again.

PC-105... Where the hell is it?????
scottbre replied to skydivegirl's topic in Photography and Video
Wow, that sucks. I must've gotten mine right when everywhere was selling out of them then. I called them to make sure that they actually had them in stock, because the first place I ordered from had them on back order and wasn't going to tell me about it. So I got mine in like 4 days after they told me that did have them. Sounds like I really dodged a bullet by getting it when I did. That really sucks though because 109 just doesn't seem to match up to the 105 as well, in my opinion. So has Sony itself even stopped selling the 105 directly then? Have you been able to find somewhere that still has some in stock? If not, here's a few places I've found that claim that they still have them: http://www.abesofmaine.com/viewproduct.asp?id=sndcrpc105 http://www.crutchfield.com/S-D5s2KkYkF9O/cgi-bin/prodview.asp?i=158DCRP105 http://store.yahoo.com/wellsdigital/dcrpc105.html Hope you have found or can find one. -

What gave you the idea that they are discontinuing it? It's still listed on the sony site, and they just came out with it last summer. http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_DisplayProductInformation-Start;sid=Kp_V8m-vNsnVqi_G8dvf-SC-Hugnwq-A1ng=?ProductSKU=DCRPC105&Dept=dcc&CategoryName=dcc_DICamcorders_MiniDVHandycamCamcorders "Your mother's full of stupidjuice!" Yea, I've pretty much decided that the problem is some combination of not enough RAM and a 4 year-old processor. Since the two things I can't do with my computer are both things that require a fair amount of memory and processing power. Guess I'll just have to learn how to use the editing tools built into the camera for now. "Your mother's full of stupidjuice!" My Art Project

Ok, I can reliably capture video now. But I when I open the AVI to edit it afterwards, it goes black and all I hear is sound when I try to play it in premiere or ulead video studio. And I still can't export back to tape. I have 256mb of RAM, 40GB of scratchdisk space, and a PIII 660mhz processor. Maybe I need more RAM? "Your mother's full of stupidjuice!" My Art Project

What version of windows are you using? I'm using 2000. I wonder if that has any effect on what's happening (or not happening). I just spent 50 bucks on the firewire card that I have now, I can't keep throwing money at more cards because maybe they aren't compatible. My computer recognizes the firewire card and there are no conflicts, it just does want to recognize my camera when it's connected. "Your mother's full of stupidjuice!" My Art Project

Has anyone else had problems with capturing and exporting to and from a computer with the PC105? I've managed to get lucky and have premiere recognize it a couple times and capture, but that is the exception, not the norm. Usually it just says it can't find the device. And I have never been able to export stuff back to tape. I've tried this in Ulead video studio with the same results so I know it's not a problem with premiere. Has anyone figured out how to deal with (fix) this? I just bought a firewire card so that I could move video to and from my pc105 and now it won't even work. Just a little frustrating. I've tried the "export to tape" option and when I start the recording, my camera starts recording too, but it stays on the blue screen and doesn't actually record anything from premiere, it just records nothing. Can't figure out how to actually get the video and audio to show up on the camera in order to export it back. "Your mother's full of stupidjuice!" My Art Project

1. I'm pretty sure that I've seen people copying video from one persons camera to another's using a firewire connection. How does this work? Will both people see the video, assuming both cameras are in VCR mode? 2. I've figured out how to capture a video from my camera in Premiere, but is there some way to record video back to my camera via the firewire connection, after I'm done editing it? None of this stuff seems to be in my camera's manual (PC105) so I figured that at least a few people on here have experience with these things.

From what I saw, when doing research on cameras to buy recently, it's basically a pc105 with less features and a docking bay. "Your mother's full of stupidjuice!" My Art Project

Buying the PC-105 is a pain in the A$$
scottbre replied to Cornholio's topic in Photography and Video
I got mine today. Been spending all evening trying to play with it without drooling all over it. It's so sweet, and I got more goodies for it coming later this week. "Your mother's full of stupidjuice!" My Art Project -
I think that most people who are big enough geeks to buy the extended editions of these movies (myself included) are big enough geeks to have looked for and found the easter eggs, pretty much as soon as they got the dvd's. "Your mother's full of stupidjuice!" My Art Project

*Summoning the power of the Greenies* Seems like this is just the sort of thread that serves no constructive purpose what-so-ever, and in fact is more harmful to the general atmosphere of DZ.com than anything. For whatever tiny amount my opinion is worth, maybe some all powerful greenie could lock and/or remove this stupid thread. "Your mother's full of stupidjuice!" My Art Project

Ok, well then my next question is this. I will shortly be in possession of a Sony DCR-PC105. I am an intermediate level free flyer and RWer and would like to be able to use my camera on either. What would be a good lense for me to learn my camera flying skills on? Any suggestions on what would be good and why? "Your mother's full of stupidjuice!" My Art Project

Buying the PC-105 is a pain in the A$$

Yep, I just ordered mine from Butterflyphoto as well, after finding out that the first place I ordered from had it on backorder (2-3 weeks) and hadn't planned on letting me in on that little fact. I got mine for 705. (2 day shipping included) It will be delivered tomorrow or monday. "Your mother's full of stupidjuice!" My Art Project -
Ok, so I've recently purchased a camera and am trying to figure out what sort of wide angle lense is going to be the most useful to me for the longest amount of time. I know that the wider the angle, the closer you need to be for the video to look good. But I also read somewhere that you can take a wide angle lense and zoom in, to create less of a wide angle effect. Does all of that sound right so far? Ok so if the little number on the wide angle lense is the conversion factor (.3 .43 .5 etc), then that can be multiplied by the 35mm zoom equivalent for the camera to get the 35mm equivalent of what the lense will do: My camera's 35mm equivalent capabilities are 50mm - 400mm I believe. .3 conv .42 conv .5 conv --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 50mm 15mm 21mm 25mm 75mm 22.5mm 31.5mm 37.5mm 110mm 33mm 46.2mm 55mm 180mm 54mm 75.6mm 90mm So obviously there is some overlap between the different conversion lenses, depending on where it is zoomed to (I only went up to where it would be zoomed in halfway, as some conversion lenses won't allow the camera to zoom any further). So assuming that all my above assumptions about my understanding of this are accurate, what would be the benefit of having say a .5 lense when you could essentially zoom a .3 lense in to around 80mm or a .42 lense to around 60 mm and have the same effect, along with having the ability to make your picture wider if you wanted to? I have a feeling I'm missing some elementary truth in all this that I just don't yet know about. Someone enlighten me.

What kind of Mini-DV tapes do you recommend and/or use?
scottbre replied to scottbre's topic in Photography and Video
Yep, I just got my tapes, and even though the picture on the site I ordered from showed a red package, what I got was the blue packaged ones that say DVC in big letters on the front. So they are the same... Now I just need my camera. *Can't wait till Tuesday* "Your mother's full of stupidjuice!" My Art Project -
Liberal, conservative, blah blah. I don't care for either and am equally offended when being accused of being either, as all it amounts to is pigeonholing me into some group that makes it easier for people (usually aligning themselves with whatever the "opposing" group happens to be) to tell me that everything I believe or have opinions about is wrong. I can do without all that political labeling crap. That being said, why re-say what wmw999 has already done a fine job of saying.

Hmmm... Well I'm surprised that noone has mentioned this but, religious dogma aside, how does this movie stand up on it's own as a movie? It's gotten mixed reviews from what I can see and sadly anything that anyone else says about it being good or bad needs to be taken with a serious grain of salt, because most people who have seen it thusfar are those whose opinions are very biased by they're own personal beliefs about the subject matter. As far as inaccuracies go, yea there are going to be some of those. It wouldn't be a hollywood movie otherwise. The point of it is to entertain and make money, simple as that. Someone in a previous post had said that this was based on historical fact. That's simply not true. It's based on a best guess at what the historical facts might have been, based on very select (very biased) writings that can be no more considered "fact" than any other book you might read. Someone also said that this movie is for everyone. Again, I disagree. While I haven't seen it yet, I've heard enough about it to know that it is very violent and very gory. Children should be shielded from this violence and gore just as much as they should be from violence and gore in any other R rated movie. Religious ferver is an interesting thing, and sadly it makes it so that few people can talk objectively and unemotionally about the merits of this movie. "Your mother's full of stupidjuice!"
