  1. I own a 190, it is not fully elliptical, it is considered SEMI-eliptical. It is VERY toggle sensitive and a bastard to control at first, I did a 2 spin toggle dive Saturday and lost 1500'. As long as you do not make any hard turns under 250' you'll probably be alright. I am at a small DZ with very little traffic and I have been fine, talk to your instructor they will know whats best. It was discontinued because most people that fly a canopy like this want to swoop and the Diablo is not a good swooper so there was not much of a market for it!
  2. Awesome, I ended up taking out the windsock on the runway. I made a bunch of mistakes coming in, I walked away with a small abrasin and bruise, it could have been much worse!!!, I did take part in a 5-way and 6-way. Jumping with other people is so much fun!!! Tell Chad everyone said Hi..........Jamie
  3. I have the new Skytronics GFX, it is very thin, it also has the dual alarm settings, I use the canopy settings to remind myself to set up for landing approach. It also has the computer like the protrack or solo.
  4. sory....lol.....I was just saying originally that all vigil must be claiming is that it fires under 130'. Why would you ever want it to? Has anyone ever had a reserve open by an aad under 300'???????
  5. look at that link again, it is a new model called the speed cypres2, I was talking about the expert cypres2. The computer doesnt know anything but math. It uses an algorythm to determine velocity. Vigil can only claim they are using a different algorythm, compters only understand numbers and math calculations.
  6. Let me correct myself, Vigil has 3 seperate settings.......Which setting was it on? (obviously not tandem)
  7. There is no way, a reserve could open within 130' to catch enough air to really slow down the rate of descent, it is a simple physics/calculus equation. Besides, if you were swooping wouldnt it fire?....ouch!
  8. The only way a cypres would have not fired is if one was under a mallfunctioning canopy that slowed frefall rate, OR if they were below 130 AGL!!!
  9. "The Expert CYPRES can be recognized by the red button on the control unit. It activates the release unit when it detects a rate of descent higher than 78 mph (35 m/sec) at an altitude of approx. 750 feet (approx. 225 meters) above ground level (AGL). In the event of a cutaway below this height CYPRES will operate down to approx. 130 feet AGL, however activation will not occur unless sufficient speed is obtained. Below approx. 130 feet (approx. 40 meters) AGL opening is no longer useful. For this reason, CYPRES ceases operation below approximately 130 feet AGL." This is straight directly from the User guide. It uses a rate of decent at a given altitude range. It is a computer, computers only know math!
  10. Packing your own main will give a person a pretty good idea on how it all works. I have packed my last 3 jumps!
  11. Just bought a cypres2, awesome never have to change the battery!
  12. I only have 3 jumps on it, on my last jump i did bury one side and it spun and dove like a bastard, I am making some jumps this weekend, probably some hop-n-pops from 5500' to work on canopy control! I understand the danger and I have great respect for the canopy!
  13. I absolutley understand that, our landing area is allso much smaller than other DZ's also. I do not plan on down izing for many years besides i have been losing weight and my wingloading is closer to 1.0
  14. One more piece of the puzzle I did not mention is that I am at a very small DZ and most of the time the landing area is not too crowded, besides I have no fear of landing out away and taking long walk back, and remeber it is a 190sq ft. diablo not a 120!
  15. I know, I have not pulled down tha toggles more than a few inches, not counting on flaring. I have been pulling @ 5000' with a very stable body position and i am flying it very conservatively!
  16. I have 15 jumps total and the last 3 are on a diablo 190 with a wing loading of 1.1. As far as what I have heard about triathalons is that they are a very stable canopy. My Diablo is EXTREMELY toggle sensitive and somewhat eliptical compared to my Icon student rig, but I take that into account, I have been pulling high and stable and I have a wide approach on landing with no sharp turns. As long as you feel comfortable and on-heading on deployment and not trying to swoop in you should be fine......(just the opinion of another newbie in a comparable situation)
  17. Tell him Happy Bday, I'll tell everyone in Tampa he said hi!
  18. I felt the same way during aff, but now I want wind to get those sweet flares!
  19. we finally got the King air Saturday, man it is awesome!!!! Tell Chad I am now flying the Diablo 190 I jumped it twice on my own pack jobs!
  20. Hey did you and Chad see the pic I put on Chad's thread?
