Last year when visiting my brother and sister-in-law for Thanskgiving they went Christmas tree shopping. They insisted on buying me a small tree to put in my apartment. I didn't have room in my car to take it back with me however. So we stop at Walgreen's, I stay in the car with the kids. 15 minutes later they come out and hand me one of those. I could not stop laughing. I will be putting it up every year regardless of it I have a real tree or not.

If you mark it as "sending money to friend/family" nothing gets taken out of it. If you mark it as "purchase" then yes, a bit gets taken out. So just mark it correctly and the charity will still get everything.
