  1. Manta 288 - 30 jumps Triathlon 160 - 80 jumps Sabre 150 - 100 jumps Sabre2 135 - 20 jumps (current canopy)
  2. The Neptune can also be used as an audible, the Viso, is strickly visual altimeter.
  3. http://www.uspa.org/publications/SIM/2008SIM/section3.htm#31e "Persons holding a USPA A license may jump without supervision, pack their own main parachute, engage in basic group jumps, perform water jumps." Edit: Oops, I thought you asked "What can we do once we get our class a"...
  4. They are UPT's special front riser dive loops. They are standard dive loops, with an extra piece of webbing sewn in to help make them easier to grab and pull. Can be seen at the UPT website.
  5. Are those dive loops standard Javelin loops or were those added by a rigger aswell?
  6. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8AiA8X-1ReY Here's the link for anyone interested.
  7. I think he sells them for $15. I just saw the Bonehead mount and it looks great, and very simple. I was thinking about making it out of 2024/5052 aluminum, but I'm not sure if they would bend/break if fallen on so maybe I'll try PVC, or Acetal. I like the idea of aluminum just so I can use a press/brake to bend it. How do you bend yours, just heat it with a torch?
  8. I'd like to see some pictures of peoples altimeter mounted to their mud flaps, I saw a couple when I was away on a trip and I am interested in making my own. I've searched the forum and have seen Pat Work's mount, and the Wedge, and someone's even selling on in the classifieds section, but I would like to see some close up pictures, wether you bought it, or made it yourself. Edit: The altimeter I'd like to mount is an L&B Viso. Thanks, Will
  9. At the tope of this page, there is a tab "Dropzones". It's a database with many dropzones from all around the world, you can browse through it to find a DZ close to where ever you are traveling to (inside, or outside of the US). But to answer your question, this one is about 30 miles way from Lafayette. http://www.dropzone.com/dropzone/Detailed/1002.shtml
  10. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/safety/detail_page.cgi?ID=47 That is the checklist. http://www.dropzone.com/safety/Canopy_Control/index.shtml And that is a directory with several articles related to canopy control.
  11. I don't think he is talking about swooping, rather just learning how to land on rears (as on BillVon's Downsizing Checklist).
  12. I think he said: 'Call me on Monday' JerryBaumchen I think he was describing the phone call to Atair, not to MEL, as he was asked earlier if they couldn't help him, or if he didn't get a hold of anyone.
  13. Considering your wingloading changes day to day, depending on what you're wearing, eating, or if you went to the bathroom, the effect of knowing if someones canopy is new, 500 jumps old, or 1000 jumps old, makes no difference.
  14. Your Wings would go GREAT with my jumpsuit, they're almost identical! Nice looking rig .
  15. you already have a spectre 170 and you are questioned if that`s a good idea...it might be an idea to ask that question before you bought it, don`t you think!? Not to mention the PDR-160 as a reserve loaded at 1.2
  16. Actually, if you look on Precision's website, many of their canopies come standard with HMA (Xaos-21, Xaos-27, Nitron, Fusion, Synergy). The Fusion and Synergy would be comparable to the Sabre2 and Spectre (9 & 7 cell entry level canopies), but you are right, it's not as comon as Spectra lines. The reason why you see HMA on a lot of high performance canopies, is because they don't shrink. With any canopy, when it opens, the slider slides down the lines causing friction. This friction, over time causing the lines to shrink and go out of trim. This isn't a big deal if you're on a lightly loaded rectangular canopy, but because high performance canopies are so touchy and responsive, it can be a big problem if your lines are out of trim. Can cause hard openings, line twists on opening and built in turns (anyone know of any others?). Once you decide to go HMA, there are also different sizes, the idea here is to reduce drag (although I've read that the drag reduced from different sized HMA is negligable). The problem here is the lifetime of your lines, the smaller they are, the faster they wear out, the more often they have to be replaced. The bad side of HMA is that they don't show wear the same way Spectra (Microline) does, they wear differently, and if you don't know what to look for, they could break "unexpectedly".
  17. Once I recieved my A CoP, and had about 30 jumps, my DZO asked if I wanted to do a jump, and asked if I wanted to do some 2 way RW or try sit-flying, Needless to say I've been freeflying ever since .
  18. Some places call it an AAD, others an ADD (Automatic Deployment Device).
  19. I'm interested to know what people think of this aswell. I am planning on downsizing to a Sabre2 135, a wingloading of ~1.3 once I get 200-250 jumps. Not sure about the OP, but I have completed everything on billvon's checklist on my current canopy except double front riser approaches (mainly because my canopy's brake lines are too short and it buck's on the fronts). I have also done several full altitude hop & pops to play around with the canopy, really get to know it, and some non-contact crew, and many regular hop & pops. Blink
  20. Just curious, what does everyone think of Wing's risers? I need a new pair and am thinking of ordering some Wings.
  21. As long as the rings are the same size, you'll be fine, you'll find many people jumping risers from different manufacturers than their containers.
  22. Not to mention you will need to send the Cypres away which will be around $200?
  23. Or NOT Oh sorry, I forgot, Sabre2's and every other canopy are immune to hard openings .
  24. Don't be hell bent on a Sabre2, you can get a Sabre for cheap and they are a great canopy. People complain about them smacking them on opening, but that can all be controlled by packing.

    Freefly Jumpsuits

Another vouch for FireFly. I bought a two piece suit, and it has been holding up great! The jacket has never come up while sitflying (something my other two piece had trouble with). Great suits, prices, and customer service!
