this sport is as safe or as dangerous as you make it. make sure you get instuction from qualified proffessionals. take the plunge, you wont regret it!!! all that is gold does not glitter not all those who wander are lost!

how on earth my personal experience has nothing to do with it is beyond me. since i am disabled or differently abled i think my opinion has merit. also the words cripple, and even disabled denote something that no longer functions. i am the only licenced paraplegic skydiver in the world. seems pretty "able" to me all that is gold does not glitter not all those who wander are lost!

i need to clear something up here and it seems i may be the only one in this thread qualified to do so. i am a L1 paraplegic and DISABLED!! not crippled.i dont know where you get your info but i dont like being called a cripple and no disabled person that i know would accept it iether. i am in the sport for my own gratification and if some old farthas an opinion...... he has every right to it as i have to mine. all that is gold does not glitter not all those who wander are lost!

just IMHO... how skydiving helps real life
cptchaos replied to Mike111's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
indeed skydiving has many positive impacts on my life. and sometimes the price is high. even though i broke my spine doing this, i returned. i have had major problems with friends and family that could not except my decision to continue in this sport. but then again if i were down and out and sucking on a crack pipe, not one of those people would lift a finger to help me. if 'cripples' are what would disqualify a sport from being a sport? well... the paralympics will be be dissapointed. no seriously, disabled people have as much right to take part in exreme sports as anyone else. i believe may participation in the sport can only have positive spin offs. everyone has to start somewhere and for many, a tandem is the introduction. unfortunately accidents will happen! *** all that is gold does not glitter not all those who wander are lost!

personally i think it sets a dangerous precedent in general. in the case of waitrons, tipping is an incentive to inspire people to give there best service. in the case of packers and instructors it is my opinion that they should always give the absolute best service that they can, regardless of if they expect a tip at the end or not.(peoples lives are at stake) i have a situation that i cant pack for myself so paying for packing is a must for me. even though i do tip(and generously) it would break my bank if it was a a set norm. i am a paraplegic skydiver and started off with tandems, any tandem should be done with an experienced tm. (in disablity) if possible. on the first one i tied my kegs together, but on the second it came of just out of the door. no problems. all that is gold does not glitter not all those who wander are lost!

ilive in capetown south africa. i broke my back 4 years ago doing a low turn(27 jumps) i was told i would never walk again and more shocking.. never skydive. one year later i proved them wrong by doing my first tandem on the anniversary of my accident. i decided then that i would come back to the sport for real. i was told that because i was paralized i would never be able to jump on my own and that it could not be done. shortly after this i got in touch with an instuctor called "tonto" he was the first to say that it could be done and that he would guide me. i invented a few simple pieces of equipment and got started with aff. to make a long story short, i now have 60+ jumps and loving it all that is gold does not glitter not all those who wander are lost!
