she should definitely see a doc...that way if there are long term effects from the wreck she gets things covered ---- not to mention a PT referral and some meds would make her feel a lot better. I think he is thinking that rib xrays won't make much of a difference in management of rib fractures vs bruised ribs - that is all. adequate documentation of injuries is essential to make sure that claims are paid especially if there are long term side effects --- which are particularly common with neck injuries. Necks and backs can be very temperamental to manage and can result in long term problems ...it is just dependant on the injury. I see ALOT of people after car wrecks. There are a couple of things to do. If the ribs are bothering you could look at getting a rib belt or wrap yourself with an ace wrap. Just make sure you are coughing and deep breathing frequently. Ribs will take about 6 weeks to heal -- some people have the pain a lot longer. As for the neck...if you can tolerate anti-inflammatories, make sure that you take them consistently, ice 4 x a day for 20 minutes, you may alternate with heat. I would also talk to your doc about a referral for physical therapy --- I am more of a PT advocate than a chiro advocate --just my preference. Remember soft tissue actually takes quite a while to heal .... longer than some fractures. If you are still having problems it is key to keep going back to your primary care provider so that there is a consistent record of your progress or lack there of. It is hard when people come in and have hit different ERs, or providers --- you can't really get a handle of how the injury has been managed sometimes. Keep hanging in there Jaye - sorry this happened. I am sure that it has slowed you down some. haven't gotten that far....usually gia or beth plans it....it was their tradition after all. however, they weren't there last year so me and doc encouraged the lingerie wear. i am sure that we could be encouraged to carry on the tradition again if need be.
