Packers? compensation for Tandem pack jobs vs Sport/Student rigs?
SkymonkeyONE replied to foreverfree's topic in Instructors
Anyone else not get this guy's point? There is no established rule which states what an employer in the skydiving business has to pay an instructor or packaho. WTS (West Tennessee Skydiving) used to pay a whopping $75 to tandem masters for a single jump! Most other places vary between $25 and $30 (plus packing). What a DZ pays is based on a number of things: -what they are charging students for the jump -cost of living in the area perhaps -what other nearby DZ's are paying in order to keep their instructors from bailing Packing concessions are quite a new phenomenon. Most DZ's have no separate, contracted concession (or school for that matter) and simply trade packing for free jumps or training. That said, the places which DO have them pay what they can afford and still keep enough to put food in the concessionaire's mouth. If a place pays you more to pack a tandem, it's likely that they have less (or no) overhead. Places which pay you less obviously have to pay a monthly fee to the DZ in order to have sole right to the concession. Chuck -
That's the GTi he bought from us at Rantoul. Nice exit.

I don't understand what any of those questions have to do with the topic of the thread. What are you leading up to? As to your questions, though, here are my answers: No No No No Yes, right up to the time that he or she reaches the hard-deck and forces me to pull for them. -
FLCPA Round 5 has changed DZ's

You'll toe the line and LIKE it, mister! -
A: who sold you a Stilleto at that experience level? B: since you already have the canopy, I can tell you that you don't have any business buying anything smaller or faster for quite some time. There is no way in the world that you could have possibly gotten anywhere near the limits of that parachute with your jump numbers/experience. Chuck

Just a story of my accomplishments in landing :)
SkymonkeyONE replied to skyhighkiy's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Agreed. Many horses have been beat to death in the forming of this epic thread. The end. Chuckie -
It is for that reason that I do not run out landings (normally). I will slide out a landing every single time I am afforded a smooth enough surface.

I have jumped both and definitely think that a Nitro in one size "feels" like a one-size-larger ST. A Nitro is not a twitchy canopy and it has more usable lift at slower airspeeds (when you are landing). Nitros fly like Cobalts which fly like Crossfires. Longer toggle stroke than an ST for sure and they feel "slower" in the same size. Demo the canopy and see if it is what you like. Chuck

You are not going to hear the audible tones of a Neptune if you wear it on your wrist as an alti.

I will also agree that the system used on HiPer canopies (and Atair for some time) absolutely will NOT creep/pop out on you once you set it. I have never used a "common" type kill-line slider that hasn't come undone on at least one side from time to time. Tightly rolling your slider and stowing it on your rig or jumpsuit by other means controls this problem, but see it happen all the time on people who don't pull their slider down and stow it more securely. Nothing bugs me more than having a slider half-inflate behind your head as you are setting up for a swoop. While slightly bulkier, I actually like the plastic slack retainer things better than the "tits" used on most other sliders.

Almost a serious incident - Do your own gear check!
SkymonkeyONE replied to lewmonst's topic in Safety and Training
On the plane one time I caught a guy who had hooked up a main, but in doing so never ran the white loop through grommet at the end of the cable housing prior to putting the release cable through. Both sides were done this way. I fixed it on the plane for him in about a minute, but it's a good thing that I had noticed it. I constantly scan other peoples' gear in the plane. I also check my own release system at least once on the ground and once in the plane. chuck -
Roger Pickett has jumped IMAX chest mounted as well. He was filming some MFF jumpers (and possibly some Knights) at Raeford a some years ago (1997 maybe?). He was working for the Airborne and Special Operations Test Board then.

I know at least one person who still uses one of those. His is called a Para-mount UltraLite. Title not withstanding, I am pretty sure my Bonehead is lighter.

But she is a newly intoduced model -- and you aren't an early adopter of new products. -I- on the other hand, am. j As am I! Nice one, Jonathan!

sabre1 compared to sabre2
SkymonkeyONE replied to PD_FreeFlier's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
All other variables remaining the same (number of jumps on canopy, lineset etc. Same wingload), I am sure that I could take a Sabre2 measurably farther than an original Sabre. Reasons? Thinner airfoil, tapered planform, longer recovery arc. Chuck -
EXIT TO THROWING THE DROGUE OUT INSTABILITY PROBLEMS
SkymonkeyONE replied to foreverfree's topic in Instructors
Booties make my job so simple. Speed helps as well. I can slow down by getting very flat (never an issue with my 155 pound ass), or I can simply speed up by flying with my hands behind my back and arching hard. Still, the best way to prevent stability problems is setting yourself up for success by performing as close to a perfect exit as possible. -
The wife is Ruth and the bomb shelter in question was built into the Mortuary/funeral home/living space of the family when they bought or built the place. George only discovered it two episodes ago after the sons made him move the cases of bottled water out of a closet in the mortuary. I believe the woman talking to George is either one of his ex-wives or his mother.

SkymonkeyONE replied to skyhighkiy's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Likewise, I have intentionally stalled every single canopy I have ever owned without ever having to chop it. Keeping your toggles level as you perform the maneuver will keep small canopies from spinning up on you. Not figuring out the stall point of your canopy (above the hard deck) means that you will more likely find it the hard way when you flare too far (toggles or rears) on a real landing. What's one of the first things a pilot goes and does when he is checking out on a new type of aircraft? Approach and departure stalls. Chuck -
Can you name folks in this pic? (blast from the past)
