Fort Campbell Sport Parachute Club Closes
SkymonkeyONE replied to CDRINF's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
Bragg went from three clubs (18th Corps, 82nd, Green Beret) down to two in the early 80's. It just went down to one club this past year when the 82nd club was shut down and both clubs merged over in the GB club (technically an "activity" now) building. The consolidated club operates out of one of the old "horse barns" on main post on the corner of Jackson and Macomb streets. The club primarily jumps at Skydive Parkton for student operations, but has not had free blade time in nearly a decade. That is absolutely untrue. Never has any military sanctioned recreational activity injury not been covered. Military jump clubs formerly operated off of MWR (Morale, Welfare, Recreation) funds, but are now NAF funded. Fort Bragg still has four jump teams/organizations. The 82nd still has a full-time team run by SFC Will Flemming; the Green Beret Parachute Team is made up of both active duty and retired soldiers and is run out of the GBSPA building and is funded by JFKSWC; the USASOC parachute team is a full-time, all active duty team currently run by MSG Johnny Mulford; and of course the USAPT "golden knights" are there. -

Yes, Jack and TLML's rig is a diesel pusher. A very, very nice one. I seeth with jealousy everytime I see it.

BWAHAHAHAHA!

Definitely totalled. I feel incredibly sorry for you guys; that's your castle. I lost my awning in the last one, but only because I neglected to lower it (or the wind pulled it back up) and it filled with water and ripped. I hope you have good insurance. Chuck

Gwar is fucking awesome, but Marshal Mathers is a shitbird.

people online right now. Neat.

The line charts will only give you a baseline. It has been my experience that the stock line-length is too short on Stillettos for steep front riser dives. My 107 (which I jumped for nearly six years) was way too "bucky" in risers until I added four whole inches to the control lines. Oddly, my 97 (which I jumped for about six months) was nearly perfect at the stock length. I added one inch over stock on it. Your mileage may vary.

Not true at all. All you really need to be able to do is stand, sit, and be able to flip over back into that stand or sit if you flip over. Skysurf suits are simply sit suits with smaller wings and they anchor you head-up. Smart business is to start with a "real" sit suit if you can find one and then borrow or get a skysurf suit made if and when you decide to do it on a regular basis. The lowest experienced jumper I ever taught had exactly 200 jump. That was John Hoover, the current captain of the GK 4-way RW team.

Control lines might be too tight.

Next FLCPA meet location??
SkymonkeyONE replied to proswooper's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I thought that I had heard the last meet had been cancelled. -
Don't feed the trolls, gentlemen. If the original poster is not trolling, then I would ask that he first do a search of this forum and read what the recommended progression consists of. Hint: it is not going from a 180 to a 540. That said, the principles for judging your setup height are exactly the same, regardless of what degree of turn you are working on. Chuck

How does one slam in to a tree?
SkymonkeyONE replied to skyhighkiy's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
It is very common for people, especially lower-experienced jumpers, to become target fixated. It's also very common for them to get "lock neck syndrome" and be totally unaware of other canopies in the air around them. Likewise, it is quite common for experienced jumpers to become target fixated on reserve rides. There are many, many cases where jumpers have flown straight into barbed-wire fences, power lines, and other obstacles because they thought they simply must make it to that field. Chuck -
What's that on your tongue, Autumn? Eat too many Razzles?

Where to go for AFF: SDU, Deland, Zhills, ETC
SkymonkeyONE replied to Terminal-V's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
That is absolutely true. For example, MANY of the most famous dropzones are still using outdated seven-level AFF and not following the ISP at all at their schools. Neither DeLand nor Z-hills, nor Eloy teach modern AFF. They teach the old system, then tell you to go sign up at Skydive U (or whatever they call it at their DZ....it's AZTC in Eloy) for the remainder of the "coach" jumps needed for an A-license. Many students at those DZ's do not even hear about the "A-card" until they finish their "old" AFF and get told what they need to do to get a license. Chuck -
There were more than a few guys jumping on Airspeed (8-way) who had never been to a world meet. It's phenomenal that they kicked butt and won and I am incredibly proud of them. Chuck

Stop pro packing your tandems, Dave.

BWAHAHAHAHA! I just about spit up on the monitor! SM-1, Monkey Beef #13

My response stands. I (we at Raeford), do not use bootie suits for students under normal circumstances. I will, however, use them to assist me in fixing habitual backsliders on occasion. chuck

STRONG vs SIGMA vs VECTOR vs ECLIPSE TANDEM RIGS
SkymonkeyONE replied to foreverfree's topic in Instructors
Well, mine is a personal tandem. It does not have an adjustable harness, so unless you are my size, you ain't jumping my rig. Not sure about long-term, hard-use durability, but I do know a couple of dropzones jump them as their primary system. Skydive Palatka is among them. The only thing I really wish was different about my Racer tandem is the passenger harness. I really like the new Sigma harnesses due to the way they seat the passenger under canopy. Racer passenger harnesses are similar to older Vector harnesses in their adjustment. Still, I have not had any complaints from any passengers, so it's all good. Chuck -
You can get professional canopy coaching at pretty much any major dropzone you care to visit. In Florida, I would go to Deland (Jimmy Tranter, Scott, Jay). In NJ, Crosskeys (Heath Richardson). In AZ, Eloy (Dusty Smith and Jason Peters), in CA, Perris (Team Extreme) or San Diego (Icarus Evolution), or Elsinore (Bryan Harrel). In Texas, Skydive Houston (Eric Butts). Chuck

Schedule of events....
SkymonkeyONE replied to SlatonAirSports's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
It's odd to me that the official site says that you MUST register online and you cannot do so onsite, yet they won't be allowing payment over the internet until monday. Our 8-way and freefly team are flying out this Sunday.....Wonder what kind of hassles they are going to encounter? Chuck -
While the Ody was "officially" released at the PIA in January '01, there were quite a few made prior to that which still said "Javelin" on the side and were sold as "teasers." We had at least four "pre-PIA" Ody's here at Raeford. Chuck

Generally? No, but I have encountered more than a couple of instances where putting a habitual backslider in a bootie suit un-fucked them immediately. The added "feel" in the lower extremities let them know what was going on back there. I won't hesitate to use a bootie suit as a tool on a case-by-case basis. Chuck
