Instructors dating students???????
SkymonkeyONE replied to MrJones's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
We have no tollerance for this at our dropzone. It is utterly unprofessional. Chuck -
I heard he got his ass handed to him by the North Georgia chapter of the Wingmen Motorcycle Club.
-
Monkito is looking pretty sporty these days!
-
First of all, there are at least two BMI's at Chicago as well: Rook and Missy. Second, it's very, very simple to wingsuit from a Cessna.
-
Of course. Spence will have his old, beat-up Bob Marley CD playing around the clock!

Get on his ass, you big, sweaty bastard! -
That's good news then if you choose to go the 103 route. Have fun regardless which canopy you choose.
-
That's correct. Red is really, really into powered parachutes.

I spend quite a bit on time in the FJC teaching canopy skills. As it is a part of the ISP FJC guidelines, everyone ought to be doing the same. What I see most skydivers doing, and have been seeing for way more than a decade, is forgetting the basics of canopy control when they change canopies. I seem very few people who can fly an effective pattern and almost no one who plans for and steers for a landing on a specific piece of the DZ. Same for flaring. Very few people who have problems landing their canopies flare more than half way. Chuck

I could start listing similar instances of the exact same thing which have gone on right here on dropzone.com. Some were/are even serial daters. I still get a smiile on my face everytime I think about the first time a certain dz.com poster walked into the Bent Prop to meet his "girlfriend" for the first time. Oh, the horror! Chuck -
The first indoor ski slope I ever saw- it was really just a super-large carpet-like treadmill- was/is on the top floor of Gart Brothers in Denver, CO.

I will be standing there drunk watching the beer line burn at Z-hills.
-
No need for him on here if you have his number. I hear his man boobs are even bigger these days, too!
-
You obviously have too much time on your hands.

no no no no.....no more pictures of gimpy....i will be taking pictures though But not of me you won't! Not if you want a warm bed to sleep in! -
J.P. just hit the nail on the head. There are three kinds of people out there running courses right now: -People who can swoop their asses off (either down the beer line or even in competition), but really don't teach well as they have no experience in doing that or just outright do it poorly. These classes are a joke. If you can't articulate what you personally can do to others, and you can't articulate to a student exactly what he is doing right/wrong (and how to effectively fix it), then you have no business taking money from anyone. -People who teach the skill well, but don't necessarily swoop that well in competition (there are at least two of these guys running courses regularly). -People who both teach well, plus have the skill-set and great competition credentials. There are a couple of these guys running courses as well. There are plenty of people out there, like myself, who fall sort of in the second category (I don't do bad in competition and can definitely teach), but just don't have the desire to market myself in that regard right now because I make plenty of money at my "real" job. Guys like me don't need your money, but will gladly help you out in any way you need so long as we have the time. Simply asking for help will get you a long way at most dropzones. I have sat through several courses run by a number of individuals. Most everything I have heard is based off the writings Bryan Burke did a decade ago. I know for a fact that the original Evolution school sylabus was nearly identical to it. All of those writings are still archived somewhere on the Skydive Arizona website. If USPA ever mandated some sort of rating in order to teach intermediate/advanced/expert canopy piloting then I am sure I would get the rating (since I have every other meaningful rating).

There are a TON of perpetrators on TV and radio calling themselves "doctor" who bought their shit online or through some other "gimme" non-acredited "university". Dr Laura Schlesinger (sic) is among them. The psych on the TV reality show "The Swan" is another. No real training whatsoever. Chuck

I think you missed the context of the original post. He already jumps a Katana 107. That is a very steep-diving canopy with a long recovery arc. I don't have any doubt that someone jumping that canopy could easilly transition to a crossbraced canopy in the 90-96 square foot range safely. Now if he really wanted a 103 or a 111, then I was simply pointing out that I seriously doubt either of those would fit in his rig; just another consideration he would have to take in account. Do you follow me? Chuck
