Afraid I'm out of ideas. According to Pinnacle, USB capture shouldn't work. Once Avid purchased Pinnacle, I no longer test their products, so can't say much with any intelligence. Uninstall/reinstall the software? Do a rollback? buy a 1394 cable and capture the way the app was designed to work?

not jumping on him for his request, but jumping on him for the disrespect shown to an experienced jumper/DZO/Instructor. If there is a location where it's acceptable to legally jump a BASE rig from an airplane, sounds like an exciting jump. yes I noted he's not from the US, but my understanding was that no where is it legal to exit an aircraft (excepting emergencies) with only one canopy. I learned something new today.

A DZO of a fairly large DZ with nearly 7000 jumps and nearly 30 years in sport vs 400 jumps/6 years, and you're busting his chops? If you bang yourself up (or worse) jumping BASE from an aircraft, the sport gets more black added to the eye because you're violating the law, not BSRs.

It's 12:00 on Saturday - why the hell arn't you jumping?!?!

Wind gusts to 40mph, 40% chance of rain (looking out the window, make that 100%). Been two weeks now of crappy/non-jumpable weather. On the flip side, I've rented a 182, pilot, and packer and am going to jump my tail off for a day later this week. -
Adrenaline Rush: The science of risk (2002) soundtrack???

Touch The Sky is the third track. Copyright searches can be your friend. -
You've just answered your own dilemma. Pinnacle (and virtually every other NLE) will not recognize the camera via USB. The capture application is designed for 1394/iLink/Firewire, not USB. The computer sees it, because it is new hardware but doesn't know what to do with it.

What do you guys pay to jump at your DZ?
DSE replied to Philly215's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
right. -we don't use the King for h & p's. -if we did use the King for h & p's, it's not feasible to do go-rounds from lower altitudes due to airport operations. -the cost of an h & p is approximately the same for the DZO as a ride to altitude given the way our airport operates. -I (personally) consider any jump ticket less than 25.00 to be a reasonable deal. Try sitting down to figure out the cost of the aircraft, pilot, fuel, operation, employees, etc. You'll likely come to a similar conclusion. In a King at our altitude, figure 24 gallons per load, 10 jumpers (max) in hot months and 12 in cooler weather. Add to that the cost of the aircraft at 300 to 400k, depreciated over a few years. -
Traveling with allot of gear..? HELP!!!
DSE replied to freefall80's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Just as an aside, if you tell the airline (or even can provide a faked card) that you're a member of the media (who would dispute a camera helmet) then the charges are rarely more than 100.00. I travel to Oz reasonably often, carrying 3 Pelican cases plus suitcases for a combined weight of around 300 lbs. The media charge on Quantas is 75.00. Delta charges me nothing for media weight below 100 lbs per piece They will not take a box weighing more than 100lbs. This varies from airline to airline. -

you don't FedEx much, do you? He works at a DZ, not on Wall Street. Tom, you'll be MUCH better off paying the extra baggage fee (I assume you're flying Quantas) or shipping the stuff by slo moving methods. -

20$ in King Air to any altitude -
The Cookie box for the HC3/HC5 is a perfect fit. Search these forums and you'll see pix of how I modified mine, simply because the lens throw is slightly shorter for the HC3 than it is for the HC5. Enlarging the on/off hole was a huge benefit, but not necessary.
-
Coupla options; HDV-Sony HC5 is smallest. AVCHD-Sony CX7 is smaller still. Soon, Canon's new AVCHD (HC10) will be shipping. No knowledge of how well it will do, but it is the same front end as the HV20, so it likely won't work. As far as lipstick cams, nothing that is HD at this time. There is a new card-based unit from Convergent Design in Denver, that may be appropriate for this sort of recording, but it's not expected to ship until late November.

Honest level of risk with skydiving?
DSE replied to Philly215's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Skydiving is a high risk sport. Period. People get hurt every month, somewhere in the world. Fatalities are a part of the sport, just as are broken ankles, wrist, femurs, tibs, necks, backs, pelvi, fingers, and other various and sundry parts of your body. Broken bones are not required, however. The sport is as safe as *you* can make it. I doubt there is a skydiver with more than 100 jumps that hasn't had an "oh shit" moment. Most of em' self-induced. Reading fatalities and injury reports should serve to teach, not scare. -
Where? Where? There There....are you blind? Or just deaf?

Thanks for all the responses, it helps put things in perspective, or at least provides a few perspectives. Seems like once you hit the three year/500 jump/6 hours of freefall, the possibilities come from every angle, regardless of whether they're the right opportunities or not.
-
yep. it was a good quickie test fix. I'm trying to figure a way to rubber band a bra on the cam but still keep it quick. I'm not a huge/monster fan of this cam for skydiving, but it *is* a portent of things to come. So, trying to save you guys a little grief down the road. It did respond very well to the gaffed on mic muff, which is encouraging. And it looks kinda cool too.
-
I'd suggest it depends on your perspective. A 10% reduction in the risk of a dropout is fairly significant to me, and for anything important, I'd pay 10 times that amount to reduce dropout. I guess it's just dependent on what you value. For day to day tandems, I agree; the extra 6$ per tape probably isn't worth the expense. If you're shooting a competition, television spot, that "once in a lifetime" wedding/engagement/50 year bigway shot...the additional cost is worth it to me. I keep around 30 high grade tapes in my locker at the DZ and a dozen AMEII grade tapes.
-
No, "really sucks" would indicate that it at least 'works.' "It's for shit" would indicate that it doesn't work at all. I have figured out a way of making it work, I need to upload another tandem I did yesterday. Gaffing over the back half of the mic and setting the e-gain to the bottom, it was useable.

So does the ringsite mount.

PT-6 UNSUITABLE for Skydiving!?!?! WHAT!?!?
DSE replied to Unstable's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
FWIW, I didn't hear anything like that, and I shot vid for a fair amount of the DZO's meeting. Dunno if it really got said or not, it would have pricked my attentions if it had been said, but there were times I was totally tuned out, too. -
FWIW, a computer can't be flipped to PAL. Via firewire, it's merely a data transfer so the puter doesn't care, nor should the capture application unless it's using a hardware accelerator card. Xfer from cam to cam can present problems, however. ~Go to Network connections, be sure that the 1394 Network is DISABLED. Right click to choose Disabled if it's not indicating that it's disabled. If that doesn't work; Delete the 1394 card from your System Hardware in Control Panel. Then do a search for New Hardware. If that doesn't work; ~Go to Sound/Video/Game controllers, locate the 1394 card driver, be sure it's using the Sony DV driver. If that doesn't work....ping back and we'll maybe try going deeper

Nice, please do! Faris is letting me borrow his GTI until I get a few jumps under my belt and can play with the bigger wings. I'm sure you can show me some cool stuff. Between you, Bryan, Cutter, and the other wingsuiters, I'm definitely in a position to learn a lot.

Hi Spot IMO Bad ju ju bitching about other DZ's Their not going to change because you say your not going back. If your not happy with a DZ just vote with your $$$ and jump some place else R.I.P. I'm not bitching, someone asked me why I didn't go up there. I do like going up to the tunnel, which isn't too far away from the mentioned DZ. I'm sure it's a fine place, some folks really like really tight jeans, but I'm not one of them. I gave it a try, and it didn't fit.

My crappy ISP shut us down for bandwidth as far as the two files uploaded. I'm looking for another reasonable alternative. We thought we had unlimited bandwidth, and now painfully learned we do not. I'll update as soon as I find a means of reasonably downloading 1GB files.

Given how I was treated at Ogden the one time I went there...I don't think I'll ever be back.
