  1. Grab a tandem stow, put it over the zoom ring on your camera. Works great.
  2. "S" doesn't trim, it merely splits. Whereever the cursor is, that's what you'll see in the preview window. If you've split/deleted, and there is no frame beneath the cursor, all you'll see is black. Also, learn to use the J/K/L keys to shuttle around. it'll help. Holding "L" will cause the timeline/playhead to play as though you'd hit the spacebar. HTH
  3. This is a simple question, one that would be ever so easily handled in the USA (And Holland, the UK, and Finland are all signatories of the Berne Convention,", as copyright (literally the "right" to "copy" is easily managed in this sort of instance. Deciding to enact and enforce your rights to copy isn't an easy thing to do in a small community. Cutting someone else' edit into yours turns theirs into a derivative work, which is equally illegal in all three countries. Using copyrighted music falls into the same category. [edit] Lena, one doesn't sue a newspaper for infringement as a first action. One notifies the newspaper of the infringement. The newspaper or other publishing body believes in good faith that what they're given to publish is free of encumbrance. They would have no reason to suspect otherwise. Once published, the damage to a photograph or video (loss of value) has occurred and the value may never be regained. Suing over something as small as this becomes a *very* expensive game of principle vs prudence. Working for a magazine, I'm a little surprised you wouldn't know this?
  4. In the hands of the right person and a few photos, Photoshop is an amazing tool.
  5. you may have turned off the video preview. I don't have Studio on this laptop, but I believe it's ALT+4 to turn it back on. You can also hold CTRL+SHIFT when starting Vegas; this will reset everything back to factory. HTH?
  6. Let's keep the thread going in the Instructors forum http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3518159;page=unread#unread
  7. It would appear that several cameras have had this problem. Additional discussions/resources Some have said it's lens compatibility, others have said it's dirty contacts. Try other lenses? Use an eraser on the contacts? (Be certain to not get eraser debris in your camera body). I've had this from time to time, and can't say what the problem was, I upgraded rather than fight it, and keep the XTi as a backup.
  8. I should have reworded that; nothing will go straight to a timeline, but should go straight to a bin (import). Then go straight to a timeline (from the card). Either way...I guess I need to go get a copy of Elements so I can see how it's editing for myself. Adobe doesn't comp us copies of that software.
  9. The wingsuit community is already too friggin' political without going down that road/ Trust no one, but know who you're willing to accept leadership from vs who you'd want to argue with. There are few, IMO. Whatever you do (can you believe I'm going along with Jason?), don't just trust what you're told. It won't take long to figure out, IMO.
  10. Your first line is right; "limited experience." It doesn't take long for you to quickly figure out which L/O's are looking out for the group and which L/O's are just "there." There will always be a select few dedicated to being the best they can be and are looking out for the broad scope. Wait'll you're in a plane with Scott Bland, you can see a hole, but he won't go because he can't be 110% sure everyone can find their way... You ride the plane back down or exit as a solo at your own risk. Two of the solo's that exited at their own risk barely made it to the DZ and the DZ suspended loads immediately following. Scott B. is one you can always trust, and trust with a blindfold on. There are others, but they're damn few (in my own "limited" experience).
  11. I put one on at PIA, it was very comfy, easy to get on/off. Were I wanting a full face, it would be a difficult choice between the GAS and the new Skysystems Oxygn. GAS was smoother on/off, but the new visor system on the Skysystems is sweet.
  12. Stick a card in the card reader, drag a file from the Windows Explorer straight to the timeline. If it shows full rez and plays, then it does. If it shows at quarter rez and plays, it doesn't. If it doesn't load the stream at all, it doesn't.
  13. I haven't tried Elements 7. although they *advertise* native handling of AVC, I don't know that it does. FCS and FCP both advertise native handling of HDV... and neither does.
  14. For non-converted, native PC-based editing of AVCHD: Sony Vegas 9 Platinum Sony Vegas Pro 8 Canopus Edius Adobe Premiere CS4 NewTek Speed Edit.
  15. Posts related to landing tandem with rear risers/paragliding have been moved to the Instructor's forum.
  16. As a frequent visitor to Elsinore (I fly in from utah in the winter months), it's one of the most friendly DZ's out there. Great people, fantastic vibe, very education-oriented... Hang around after dark, even if you're not terribly social (I'm not), you'll find the antics and laughter to be very entertaining. You'll be welcomed. It's a great place to take your AFF, too.
  17. And there is truth in what you've "discovered" in this "poll;" People don't like to pay for anything they don't have to. I haven't paid for a concert in years...I probably wouldn't go if I had to, Coldplay just doesn't excite me enough to spend 500.00 Flip side. you receive a call to come fix an A/C system. Blower bearings are shot; you replace those. But in the process, you discover the thermostat is broken. You have a thermostat in your truck. Do you give it away, plus your labor to install it for free "because you happen to be there hired to replace the blower bearings?" After all, thermostats are practically free, and you're there anyway, so it's no extra time... Everything we all do is a hobby we get paid for.
  18. Here is an article I wrote on the CX100...I'm aware of the power button beneath the LCD, you'll also see the screen shot enabling/disabling LCD panel power control. There is no power button on the OUTSIDE of the camera similar to all PC and HC series camcorders of the past.
  19. until you have the same sort of proof you used to declare me the king, I am still the king. Can't disappoint my mom.
  20. Ask Roger Pontare We had a good discussion of this at Roskiilde once. But Roger finally jumped.
  21. Both Skydive Hawaii and Pacific Skydiving are right there, less than 100' apart. SDH flies a Caravan, Pacific has a PAC and a King 100. I think Pacific is flying the PAC most of the time. I'm sure someone who lives there can chime in. I'll be there next week, hoping for good weather. Winds have been very high lately, I guess.
  22. :) Is the DZ nearby? :) You could spit and hit a kite....seriously. Can't wait to get out there next week. One of the most beautiful DZ's in the world, great staffs and great views.
  23. "please support those that support you" is no more nor less interesting than "That bastard is trying to get us to buy photos." You don't agree it's a nice gesture to remind folks that there are several professionals providing a memory of a specific jump(s)? If it's worth posting "XXX has a new blah-blah product, check it out," it doesn't seem any different than saying "check out the photosites of the guys that captured photos of our skydive." The photos are obviously worth something; one only has to look on Skydivernetwork, Facebook, Myspace, and other social sites to see boatloads of stolen photos. I'm aware of at least 50 of my own. I'd probably give them away, but it sure is nice to have someone say "Damn, that's a nice photo, can I have/buy/use it?" In the Photo forum, myself and others routinely post "Check out the new XXX from Cookie/Canon/Nikon/Tonfly/Bonehead/Bevsuit/SkySystemsUSA/ Hypoxic/CamEye/TheRanch/Sony/NormanKent/WesRich/ Manfrotto/ReallyRightStuff/whatever. Obviously, we're reading the OP differently. [edited to fix line return]
  24. Hadn't even considered it, Phree, but next time I'm in Walmart I'll buy an adapter and try it. Not sure if the cover will close? We do this for XDCAM all the time, using Express card adapters to shoot to SD vs SxS. Monstrous saving in cost, except that SD isn't fast enough for 60p.
