you're seeing the choppiness on playback from the camera via display? Or choppiness on a computer playing off the card?

Bad move, IMO. Have seen two people become unstable in the door using "wedges" in the bootie, one of them nearly hit the tail twice. For temporary/borrowing a suit and static exits, this might be fine...but I would caution against using this as a permanent solution. Cut the bootie, get it sized appropriately

That *was* the organizer.

Having provided many of these machines to broadcasters and DZ's alike...I'd suggest differently from what Saskia offers. Beefy power supply. Enterprise grade drives. 12 GB of RAM is plenty for Win7 64 tools Easily cleanable intake fan (dz's are usually very dirty places) Chris Warnock/Parachutist builds these very regularly. He'll have the latest data. I would not trust Sandy Bridge for a fulltime biz operation (yet), but I do have two personal SB machines. my take on Sandy Bridge. Sandy Bridge isn't the only chipset that has on-board AVC decodes...and that's the main consideration for what we're doing. We don't need 7.1 decoding on the chip, and don't need high-end graphics support. Overclocking in a business environment is generally a really bad idea too. I'd consider Vegas Pro vs VMS, simply for purposes of automation.

Letter from the Head of the FAA (May Parachutist)

How are they being penalized? Skydiving is a business. If you put my other customers at risk, I don't want you here. It's that easy. Example; Foreign wingsuit flies across three lanes of wingsuit traffic. Then he flew 180 to other WS and into tandem traffic. He'd been briefed before his jump. When he was talked to, he refused to accept he'd made an error and refused to agree to not do this again. One of two choices; ~ Obey the rules ~ Jump elsewhere. It's not a penalty, it's that our "customers" are safer for not having that sort of stupidity in the air. Fining people does put money in the DZO's pocket. And?... Just as a traffic fine pays for law enforcement, a DZO might use the fine-fund to develop stronger safety messaging to be posted around the DZ. Robin's model is clean and clear. No dicking around with "not enough slots/is this a fine slot or a paid slot/who wants to take the penalty slot on this load.?" -

From a strictly monetary standpoint: Would these fines assessed by the DZ staff go directly to the DZ? If so, the more they fine, the more pure profit they make. On the flip side, if a DZ grounds someone, that's lost revenue. Perhaps the solution is coming up with a system where the DZ itself neither loses or gains by disciplining a jumper. . I'm grateful to be on a DZ where someone who blatantly disregards safety rules is given options: ~Abide by the rules ~Jump elsewhere. Profits be damned, safety first. It may be rare, but that ethic does exist. I happen to like Robin's model very much. -
So for sake of clarity; are you sponsored or benefit in any way from your posts or advocacy of Intrudair?

Coaching for bigguer/huge/uneasy suits SHOULD be mandatory. It's called "Experience/air-time. But... just as goat-fuck stupid people keep downsizing way too early and getting hurt... folks will continue upsize their wingsuits without requisite experience. There was one here recently that spent the entire jump in a series of spins in an X2. No big suit experience, just P2's. Not current, not many P2 jumps either. Deployment at 6K was the solution to their spin. "Hey Spot, can you tell me what the zippers in my arms are for? Should they be zipped or unzipped?" Have had two people show up for FFC's with their own S-Birds in tow because they didn't know any better and believed the bullshit they were fed. I'd sure like to fly one of the Intrudair suits. Yeah, they do look a LOT like their competitors. Who knows...Maybe they fly as well or better. For all the bitching people do about the very minor things this suit copied that suit....these suits don't seem shy about copying everything from everyone?

I saw it as dumb luck combined with experience/skill. How do you view it? -
You have different safety standards over there than we do here.

By noon there were tandems in the same area for several loads. In any event...students may find themselves anywhere. Does it happen often? Certainly not. Is it acceptable? Surely not. Is it immediately correctable? No. You're going to have to wait til they land before any corrective training occurs. Yeah...he was in the wingsuit corridor, which is why I deployed where/when I did (south of the dairy vs over the warehouses) Winds were around 35mph @ 5000, and apparently he wanted to stay west of the runway. He ran his base leg over the glider runway to the west, and landed in the brush due west of 29L. His thought process was sound, even if his actions weren't. MFF students are taught slightly differently than AFFs are. _Generally_...they're better trained for patterns than AFF students are. IMO, the vidiot is 100% in the wrong here. Weird winds affected everyone. A crosswind swoop might have seemed like a fun idea at the time... -

Was this over the pond? If it was I'm assuming a ground witness, the student, and the student's instructor had a sit down to go over what changes should be made to their holding pattern and landing pattern to be more predictable. Student was a fair ways north of the pond with winds from the north. Students should not be on the west side of the runway. Yes, the military student, his military instructor, and myself all had a brief convo. The student wasn't where he should have been, but that's not the point. Students happen. A lot. Focusing on the student? No wonder we're having problems with HP landings. -

Yes, we spoke about it. No, he didn't see the student prior. And the student never saw him. His initial response was "WTF is was that guy doing way over there." Not everyone has nearly 10K jumps. Not everyone has the presence of mind and quick actions that this very experienced, military MFF instructor has. And not every dropzone has the kind of outs that we do. As it was...it was way too close for comfort. Proof-positive that luck plays a big role in our sport at times. -

10 mins ago.... watched an exceptionally experienced swooper come way too close to an AFF student that had wandered where they should not have been. Tandem vidiot sets up and begins his turn only to find the student below him (the student was well out of the normal holding area). Yes...he aborted and to his credit, actually landed well away from the main and alternate/swoop pond areas. Can/will everyone do this? Apparently not. Had he "really cleared" his airspace, he shouldn't have set up for the HP turns in the first place, right?... -
you're selecting the correct template already, even though Premiere for NTSC does offer an MPEG SD rez....it's all the same, however. Export: MP4, 640 x 360 or 856 x 480, bitrate of 5-8Mbps. As far as acquisition...using Mike Crash Deinterlacer, Alparysoft, or Boris all do very credible jobs of blending and interpolating. Yes...if you can get a GOOD camera that shoots progressive vs interlaced, you'll have an easier go of it, but at the end of the day...this is an issue far overblown. It's quite easy to get great deinterlaced/progressive footage for computer viewing. It should not look weird at all, unless you're using the wrong deinterlace settings. I can't recall if it's diff with CS4 vs 5, but I think they're the same. If it's for viewing with a computer...I'd have shot HD in the first place so you're dealing with a higher source. It'll also deinterlace perfectly vs SD and res loss/Kell compensation.

If a sticker is gonna make the difference between whether they do or don't return to skydiving... I'm not a fan of the USPA marketing engine at all, but that said...I think this particular issue isn't one worth barking over.

If you're going to "brand name" it now...I have video of Scotty Burns doing this maneuver in 2007, except he's doing it where it belongs. Well above and approach from the side vs the back. OB has a move like this too, but like KungFu Panda...he does it where it's not a threat to others.

There is a video kid at Elsinore doing whatever she can to earn some extra $$$...I'd bet she'd be up for it.

there is "no one" for the FAA to fine. Those that have created the problems the FAA are aware of have essentially paid the ultimate "fine." The best way (from a government perspective) to reduce the perceived risks is to control/restrict activities. I don't think we're going to see swooping, HP canopies, or unsafe behaviors banned. I do feel the FAA is taking a more active role in anything that flies. Looking at some of their actions towards PPG's in Utah as an example... I suspect that we're going to see a stronger trend towards disciplinary and preventive action. -
A number of students do rent; others buy well in advance. Perhaps 10-15% of our foreign students bring in suits or have their suits shipped here for their FFC's. Most of them are P2's, there is a reason it's by far the most common suit in the modern wingsuit world, used by both beginners and experienced wingsuiters alike. Whatever you do...learn to fly your body first and foremost. Before you get into a wingsuit, and after...

Some DZ's add on an extra charge for delivery to YouTube vs DVD, some DZ's deliver to thumbdrives/flashdrives... I wouldn't be surprised if there aren't a couple delivering to website-only. That day is certainly coming.

If the FAA starts asking questions (as it appears they already are), it may well be past the point of continuing more of the same; failed self-governance. You "see it" as banning HP canopies and HP turns. I don't see it as anything of the kind. From my hilltop, it is potentially so much bigger than this... -
I put them in lingerie/delicate net bags, then wash in cold water using Cheer color fast detergent. Hang to dry, then Scotchguard.

I think so as well. It was interesting to hear them know the term "XRW...." I think they're on a "fact finding tour" as much as anything, but it seems apparent that they're being fed information from whoever their "youtube crew" is as well. Let's hope we're not at a point where they're planning an active role in moderating our sport.
