Rich Winstock Swoop Incident Cover-Up
michalm21 replied to skydived19006's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Yet it speaks of his character, or lack thereof. Someone elected as a representative taking advantage of his position and not following rules he sworn to live by. It happened with his prior job, it happened now again. The dude just doesn't care. -
L&B Audible Quality Improvements? Case cracking again...
michalm21 replied to Chris-Ottawa's topic in Gear and Rigging
I've used mine for 7 or 8 years and it still is going strong. I've swapped between Z1, Tonfly CC1 and Factory Diver. No cracks. -
Ha. I've never seen his name here soooo my sarcasm detector appeared to have a failure...

Don't take it as an offense but you must be a young ninja since you mention Squirrel. Revolutionary? I wasn't around when Birdman came out, but it must have been the first suit Robi/Yari designed, then I'd say followed by Jeff's designs at Tonysuits (Mach One, and more importantly the 'Bird' cut). Actually, I'll say the Jeff's Tony 'bird' line was the first one that made me want to say 'wow, holy crap that makes so much more performance difference!'

I'm sorry but your freedom rambling is coming across like a selfish rambling. You may think your actions only affect you, but that wouldn't be true even if you had no family and decided jump off a remote cliff into the ocean. I take it back, it would be true if you were eaten by a whale or a shark and your body never found ever again. I don't care that you do not have an ADD, please go ahead and enjoy your 'freedom'. Just don't be so selfish to oversee how a possible death can affect other people in or outside of your precious life. I'm not even asking you to be a saint and think of others when you live your life. Just acknowledge that it's a possibility. Free should not equal selfish. Well, unless you're a murcan, then I guess it makes sense.

Ultra Performance Canopies & AAD
michalm21 replied to jacketsdb23's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I just ordered a new cypres 2 but if you have a good solution to the wingsuit scenarios I could swap for your unit in a few years down the road. -
If you're going to look at Pulse please take a look at Prime from Fluid Wings. It's a new canopy company and they build skydiving and paragliding canopies. I demoed the Prime is a great canopy, to me it flew better than Pulse and had a better bottom end. I understand it may be difficult to get a demo in Germany, but reach out to them and ask. http://fluidwings.com/prime-wing-information/ bit about the company and their philosophy

... or not make aggressive turns. I'm actually curious, at 1.5 what is your highest rate of descent for a max input toggle spiral? I'll let you know when I get my flysight. I do like to swoop, so not making aggressive turns would take away the fun from my landings ;)

I have to admit that this fatality made me think about firing parameters as well. I have a Cypres II but seems like it's very possible it would not fire if i were unconscious. But I can't think of a mode that would be ideal. I fly Sabre2 135, loading at around 1.5 so would likely need to get a bigger canopy, but with my smaller rig, that would mean low bulk BASE canopy. Which is ok, but I don't need to spend 2K on that (or more on a new container). I thought it would be nice to maybe have AAD disarm after it detected opening event so then it could be set for something slow, even like 29mph, but wouldn't fire after one opens. The problem would be that I'm sure there would be people fooling the device that they opened. I don't even fly a mattress but I've managed to trigger my altis to record opening on the flare from a dive... I wonder what will the solution (if it's even a problem to begin with) be to the wingsuit scenario (if any).

So you took the time to google and attached a 'citation needed' picture but you couldn't go over to the incident forum and go check it yourself? http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4728872#4728872

There is a new Bridge Day event in Twin Falls I hear. You should go there. Should be fun.

LOL Thanks, but I will pass.

a door to what exactly?

Johnmatrix, this is the most accurate and the best summary of dz flamewars I've read on this site. Good job!
-
so did I, I paid $165 for a UPT pilot chute, but the cost included additional $50 for a monkey fist I prefer over the pvc tube... Standard price is $115, so $80 more, like I wrote above
-
To reduce oscillations, one may want to use f111 instead of zp and that should be sufficient enough for skydiving. Saves $80 as well. It's cool that you got it but seems like an overkill for skydiving

USPA National Directors Lying about jump numbers....
michalm21 replied to swooper71's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
It's rare but possible. Not sure who the person is, but at Crosskeys it was not uncommon for TIs and video guys to log 1000 jumps in 6 months. It was not uncommon to do 200 jumps a month, 18-22 per day on a good weekend was a norm. I was there all the time, and many instructors logged and would tell you the exact number every week/month. That was when the dz was very busy, 3-5 years ago, it has slowed down since for various reasons (mostly plane issues one season). I don't think other dzs in the area were close on jumps per TI/video at the time, including the Ranch, SDLI, Sussex, STL... -
Just wanted to say that this looks fantastic. Once I get my flysight, I will buy it!

Redline Aerosports - New Wingsuit Manufacturer - Partial Review
michalm21 replied to Skwrl's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Walter is a fantastic guy! I've met him when I first stated wingsuiting as he was the resident expert on the dz. He always tinkered with wingsuit mods and gave me many good flying tips. I'm really happy he started redline and looking forward to try out his suits soon. I was goin to order the Carve but honestly, I'd like to go down to FL and fly his suits and likely buy one of them. Walt has a great attention to detail and very innovative mind. He also has a degree in aerospace engineering I believe. Again, really thrilled he started building suits!!! -
It seems to be the pattern that "today" or in "2 days" is usually +2-5 days so I'd give them a few more days to update the site.
-
That's cool, Jarno. I was thinking of ordering through adrenalinebase because without vat a havoc adds up to $950 after fx conversion. That's big savings from $1350
-
it would be nice for them to adjust US pricing seeing significantly stronger dollar in the last few months... US pricing has a significant margin over EU just over the exchange rate alone... Havok carve at 980 EU (including high VAT) is $1350 in US but even with VAT included it translates to 1100 USD...

I have received outstanding service both from Alti-2 and L&B. Had both companies replace instruments at no charge, no questions asked. I will keep recommending them to my friends (L&B for audible, N3 for visual/log) Just my 2c

looking for a freeware video converter
michalm21 replied to cjdskydiver's topic in Photography and Video
Handbrake is one of my favorites, so is MPEG Streamclip - both are used interchangeably. I'd venture a guess that you had poor settings that resulted in poor video in hanbrake. It does work 'out of the box' though so if I were you I'd read up on it and try again. -
Yea, a whole 3 jump tickets a year. To be honest this difference should not even be taken into consideration when choosing what could be a life saving equipment. You should choose based on other factors not the price. If you can't afford extra 3 jump tickets per year maybe skydiving is too expensive of a hobby. Just saying (and I'm not rich by all means)
