BASE progression this summer PF Tracking Suit -> Acro (why do you think I kept it?) -> V3 Didn't know about the "shadow-mod" for the Acro. Will look into that. Brian Drake

I consider the PF guys trustworthy enough to design and build a suit that I will be trusting my life to (in a way). So no knock on them for wanting an outside opinion. Brian Drake

Having recently placed my order for a V3, I'm eager to hear the feedback of those (non-PF employees/test jumpers) who have already received theirs. Though I bought it solely for BASE purposes, I'm curious if anyone has flown theirs in a skydiving/flocking environment. Is it easier to flock with than the V2? I know some people have no problem flocking in V2s, but a lot of people I know have a hard time due to the lack of lift at slow forwards speeds. The promo-material for the V3 seems to indicate the bigger armwings help alleviate this. Brian Drake

ouch. That was cold. Brian Drake

Unfortunately, that didn't read well since it goes by really fast and it's hard to tell how close you were (objects in the mirror...) Brian Drake

He was still alive when they took him away in the ambulance. Brian Drake

Here's the video (watch in full screen for best quality): http://vimeo.com/2900544 I stayed up late last night putting this together (after driving back from San Fran), but had a frustrating time getting a hi-res version uploaded today. YouTube seems to arbitrarily decide if you get to see a high-quality version and after multiple (time-consuming) tries, I gave up. Vimeo seems more reliable, but took forever due to a long queue. Avery shot actual "camera man" footage above the flocks on Saturday, but I didn't get his footage since he shoots in AVCHD and I'm not set up for that. So unfortunately all I had was footage from within the flocks, which doesn't always convey the multi-points as well. Yes, I know. I need to tape down my LCD view panel. Good thing it didn't rip off. My TonFly camera box should be here before I jump next so it won't be an issue. Thanks to everyone for the great weekend. Blues, Brian Drake

If You Were to buy a camcorder TODAY.....

Was there a quality decrease from the HC1 to the HC5? Brian Drake -
You mean like a helmet? Or a yalmukah? Cate's trying to get over a head cold, so she may not make it. Nick's police schedule changed earlier than expected, so he's no go too. I'll see if I can get some other jumpers from SoCal to head up with me. Otherwise, it'll just be me. Sorry. Incidentally, the weather.com report for this weekend changed from "sunny" all 3 days to "partly cloudy". How, um... strict is Lodi in this regard? Brian Drake

To clarify a bit on 980's post. At DZs I've been to, packers get paid $5-10 a packjob, and often get tips. I know of several people that paid their way through getting a license just by packing at the DZ. Then, once you've got about 200 jumps (or sooner, circumstances depending), you can be paid to be a video flyer for tandems and AFF students. You may be paid roughly the cost of a jump ticket (plus occasional tips) and all your camera jumps are paid for. So you can basically skydive for "free" at this point since your camera jumps will pay for your non-camera jumps (RW, tracking, eventually wingsuiting). Bottom line, if you're patient and hardworking, you can work at the DZ in a variety of capacities, slowly building the jump numbers you need to safely begin wingsuiting, and eventually BASE. Plus, you'll gain a lot more relevant experience working at the DZ than at Burger King. Brian Drake

He mentioned that the first time he did it, he had to climb up the harness a bit to reach his toggles. Obviously, this sounds like a huge red flag. He was loosening all the way to the stops and after that jump he cinched in about an inch so he could just barely get the toggles. My gut reaction was also to think this is extremely stupid and dangerous, but some of the names he dropped (well known names) in listing who taught him this caused me to want to investigate. Thus my post. Brian Drake

I was talking to a friend who went to Europe last year for his first wingsuit BASE flights and he said a lot of people over there are loosening their leg straps in order to allow more of a "shrug" when rolling/shrugging their shoulders. He said some even told him to loosen the straps all the way to the stops. He claimed the performance increase was noticeable enough that he even re-rigged his chest strap to be lower on the MLW so he wasn't choking on it under canopy. This all sounds really strange to me. Especially in light of the recent tragedy in Sebastian. But even though loose leg straps will support your weight, doesn't this add extremely more stress on your suit since the rig is traveling upward much more than normal? I'm curious to hear from anyone else that does this. The pros and cons. Thanks, Brian Brian Drake

Potentially Cate, who was on the 71-way, and Nick, who was on the qualified list for the 71-way but couldn't attend due to his police work schedule. Brian Drake

The forecast for this weekend shows sunny days and the 10-day forecast says the 17-18 will be sunny. Of course, while we're able to precisely predict the global climate 100+ years out, forecasts for the immediate future have a fairly poor track record in my experience, so who knows. I actually got out of the cast the Monday after the 71-way. Started walking without assistance (i.e., without the walking boot or crutches) about 2.5 weeks ago. So I started skydiving again with 2 consecutive Sats at Elsinore and several days in Eloy (including the midnight, New Year's jump from the DC3). I can't run yet due to my inflexible ankle (working on that), so I still slide in my landings, which works great. Brian Drake

I'm thinking of heading to Lodi for the weekend of Jan 17-18 (if the weather complies) with 2 wingsuit friends. Any local birds going to be around? Brian Drake

Is this the Raynox .3 used in the test?: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/497456-REG/Raynox_HD_3032_HD_3032PRO_37mm_0_3x_Semi_Fisheye.html#features Thanks, Brian Brian Drake

Scotty, haven't you learned from your own painful experience? Applebees employees are a tad sensitive about their profession. Or are you just looking for another beer bottle upside the noggin? Brian Drake

***Either the claim happened or it did not, so the 2 options are: 1. The evidence shows it happened as claimed. 2. No evidence; claim did not happen. It's easy to see which option was chosen. *** The problem with all you skeptics is that you're being too logical. Plus you weren't there so your opinions mean squat and your demands for evidence are unfair and mean-spirited. Can't you just take our word for it? The kool-aid they served us at the event was really damn delicious so shut the hell up! Brian Drake

Yes Please! I'm not too worried about a temporary banning from Eloy as a result... Brian Drake

That's the funniest thing I've read here recently. Thanks for the laugh Lurch. And I agree, night wingsuit jumps are awesome, but can be very dangerous so take care and don't bring a group of inexperienced flockers. If they can't fly their slot consistently during the day, have nothing to do with them for a night jump. Brian Drake

Clarification: The Acro is a tri-wing suit, not a mono-wing. Brian Drake

sorry, I don't see what you're referring to. There's the post of Tuesday's vid on Vimeo, but that looks like the most recent video you posted. Brian Drake

Any chance of the Wednesday footage being released soon? Brian Drake
