Lowest plane hop involved getting out of a casa at 2k. I watched for 3 more people to bomb out and pull, then i pulled. Was open at 800 feet. I've seen a cut away and reserve deployment (no skyhook) at 400 and be ok, so I'd bomb out of a plane as low as 300ish. You are hardly moving vertically at that moment and with the forward speed you have from the plane you're reserve would open in plenty of time to flare. Those who do, can't explain. Good advice. Put a bunch o skydives on your BASE canopy. You'll have enough to worry about during a jump then thinking about the canopy flight/landing. Other then having a basic plan, don't even start setting up until you're at 300'. Practice low flat turns and don't be put off when the skyjumping people are going "ooohhh" when you turn it 180 at 150'. You'll need to be comfortable doing that. Hit the tuffet while you're at it. Which I think is the purpose of this thread. Does anyone have any hard evidence on either side, for or against, this issue? Something other then "price" or "it feels faster". Video? Video with timeing? Using the same variables (ie, TF, back to back, same type of packjob, same delay, etc) Anything? I'd love to see it. Maybe it does make a difference.
