Statistics....not ass kissing like the people at my old job. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning

Yes, I would. If I had kids, I probably wouldn't. However, if I had kids, I don't know if I'd even jump anymore. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning

You lost me. Let's say there are 1,000 sex offenders in your state (let's just say 100 of those live in your area.) Of those 100 that live in your area, only 2 of them have actually been convicted and are "known." You have no idea of who the other 98 are. I have come here and expressed the pains of my old job. It was dull, and I didn't get along with my boss. I had to do a lot of paper work which made me cringe. So, I left that place, and I began something new. It's not the perfect job (for a brief time, my old job was perfect.) I don't see it being permanent, but it does feel great to actually use my degree again! It's weird starting a new job and being completely lost on their acronyms and who the important people I need to meet are, but it's really nice to be asked, "What do you think about...."
-
Okay, I don't think that's different than anyone else. There is a huge difference between being cautious about known risks and wasting time on it. Going out of your way because of the known risks wastes time because the unknown risks far outweigh the known. Would I bake cookies for someone who raped a 14 year old? No. Would I suddenly lock my doors and keep a watchful eye on my nephews when I babysit? No because I already do that. When I babysit them, I assume everyone is out to get them. Knowing who has done it in the past doesn't mean they're any safer. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning

I guess this is the point, though. You don't know who is/isn't an offender. The amount of unreported cases outweighs the number of convicted offenders. If approx. 1 in 10 men are sexual offenders, and there are about 1,000 men at Rantoul, you're bound to hang out with quite a few. Focusing in on further persecuting someone who has done time doesn't do much since it doesn't protect you from the majority of offenders. (Only about 1-3% of rapists are convicted.) That's too darn funny!!!!!!! There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning

You just got 30 cool points for that! There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning

Yes...especially when I'm babysitting my nephews. So, what do people do in regards to sex offenders at a dz??? If there's a registered sex offender at Rantoul (there most likely is), do people picket their tent? There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning

Because whether you know about offenders or not, they are in your area....or you should assume so since it is highly likely. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning

So, you'll leave every time a sex offender comes within a mile of you? Phree brought up a great example. Do you stay at the dz even though it's very likely there's a sex offender staying there as well? There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning

How are these different then? There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning

Well said There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning

It's not that far of a leap since there is another thread talking about this topic. There is a slim chance you will ever be able to live somewhere in America where there isn't a sex offender. Sorry, but my leap of assumptions was much shorter than yours. No, instead of worrying about who's in your neighborhood, do something productive in preventing sexual harassment. Over my dead body implies that you will go beyond the law. This is why we have a judicial system. No matter how screwed up it is, it is up to them to determine the proper punishment for criminals. It is not up to an individual to punish criminals for the victims. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning

Just because some of us don't have kids doesn't mean we don't love other kids (ie, my nephews) as if they were our own (keep in mind, I see those boys many many hours a week.) Then where does it end? Should we make sure that people who drink and drive are never allowed to drive again? Should we make sure that people who shoplifted are never allowed to enter a store again? I do think that sex offenders are the lowest (I would rather be murdered than raped.) I do think that many of them receive sentences which are too light. However, I don't have the right to infringe on anyone else. Just because others break the law doesn't give me the right to do so. If I want to change the way things are done, I contact my representative or take another active part in the community. Harassing criminals will do nothing to ensure that sex offenders are reported more frequently or increase their jail time. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning

Hahahaha! Yeah, repeating the same jump over and over again just means you're good at that. It's like someone who can do a static line jump really well but has never turned any points! There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning

Emergency school alert notification (Yes I'm freaked out)

I almost completely agree with Eric. If you want to make a change, harassing will do almost nothing. Like Eric said, one of the bigger problems is how unreported sex crimes are. If you want to make a difference, try to change that. Give talks on rape at colleges, etc. Try to spread the word about who to call, where to go, how to say "no," etc. Give people information about their rights. Don't infringe on anyone's rights, though. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning -
