  1. See page 2 here for details: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3448049;page=unread#unread This guy apparently finds DZ a fertile hunting ground. The username has been disabled. Please remember, if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Do not use Western Union. Do not ship your item if you are expected to issue any sort of "refund" for extra. Click here to read more about these kind of scams. Remember: DO NOT do business with anyone who offers to send you payment for a higher amount than your selling price with the understanding that you'll send back the balance. Be suspicious of anyone claiming to be acting on behalf of a "client" or another "customer". Be suspicious of anyone claiming to be from Nigeria or West Africa If you agree to accept a check payment, then do not send anything, gear or "change" before the check cleared. And be careful, if you manage to clear a fraudulent check then you may be liable for the damages if the bank finds out later. Make sure your bank authenticates the check. If it sounds to good to be true, then it probably is.
  2. One of our Classifieds eds saw, too. I actually nuked him yesterday, but I'm sure he squeaked a couple through, before then.
  3. That's be the video issues, I believe. I okayed the estimate to do the work yesterday afternoon, but it's not done yet.
  4. Aye, that was my experience with it, too. Looks like what we did last night was just the ticket. Search appears to be working again.
  5. I'll try to make sure that doesn't happen.
  6. Hokay, this should be fixt now. Let me know if you see it popping up again, eh?
  7. Sorry, make that an hour, not 15 minutes.
  8. Doing a little software upgrade tonight, midnight Pacific time. The site will be down about 60 minutes. This should partially resolve the issues we had Saturday morning (and a little bit Sunday). There are other things we need to do, too. Most notably, we need to make it so the video downloading is a bit more streamlined. It seems the major problem Saturday was a flood of video requests, which caused the hamster in the wheel to trip and get knocked unconscious (I'm not joking, but it is a metaphor). More on that later. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_unlock;redo=post_view_flat;so=ASC;sb=post_latest_reply;root_id=3445601;post=3445601;
  9. Hi all, I've scheduled a downtime for midnight tonight, Pacific time in the US, so we can update some software. It could go as long as fifteen minutes or so, but should be shorter. Sorry for the inconvenience! J

    Happy Holidays!

Big rocks, perfect splitter hand cracks... all these and more are great, thanks. As well, blue skies would be freaking awesome.
  11. It's also under My Stuff on the left nav.
  12. I think so, but I want to check with some others first, including sangiro. It might also help to have a more aggressive trash and spam purge... and maybe sent messages as well.
  13. I spoke with the Gossamer folks and they told me that we're getting sort of close to capacity right now as it is. We're not there yet, but if we upped email quotas to, say, 10 megs, we might be. However, I've got a ticket in to see what it would take for this to happen. We may be able to trim some email fat someplace else.
  14. Yeah, I had a similar problem on RC and Basejumper.com, too. There's a ticket in for this already, highest priority. I'll keep this thread posted.
  15. Everything I post in here is in regard to an ad response that's a virtual copy and paste of everything else in here. They all use the same wording or variations of it. Many claim to be acting on behalf of a "client," which is how they avoid answering questions about their own skydiving. The actual scam works on a flaw in how banks process checks. When you see that a buyer's check is deposited in your account, the deal isn't really done yet. Checks typically don't really clear for a long time after a bank actually releases funds. (If you followed the credit crisis in the news, this flaw was explained pretty well -- checks are actually a form of loan.) In almost every case, there's an offer to make the "certified cheque" out for more than the asking price to "cover shipping." When the check arrives, you'll notice it's made out for far too much. When you ask why, he'll say something like, it was to make sure there's enough for shipping or he'll give some other BS story, and ask you to please refund the rest of it. You deposit the check, and when it bounces, you're liable for all the money you "refunded." All of the above can happen in the space of time between when you deposit the check and the bank tells you it bounced. Have a look at some of the other threads in this forum -- they're all basically the same. If you get a response to your ad that sounds similar, report it right away so I can get a warning out there.
  16. Ticket entered, highest priority. Stay tuned.
  17. Gotcha. I'll get a ticket in for this asap. Thanks folks.
  18. Thanks guys. I went ahead and put a ticket in for this. Obviously, though, it'll be next week before a developer sees it. I'll keep this thread posted on progress. Jay

  20. We can't find any evidence of malware in any ads. None from around the time this was reported either. I don't know why you got a positive for it, but I really don't think it's because of us.

    hmmm...

Yeah, seems like it's a different outlet entirely. The OC Register, however, currently has two of its own stories up, each with a separate picture that also exists on DZ. One of them is also credited to DZ. I just spoke with the reporter who was on here yesterday. He does not know if the photo editor got express permission from Karen to use those shots, but he promised he would check as soon as he gets into the office. I requested at minimum for the one shot to be credited correctly and for them both to be removed IF they do not have permission. The second photo is credited correctly to Karen, so it's quite possible the OC Register does have permission. The KTLA photo has been removed from KTLA.com. Now, respectfully, unless there's yet another photo out there credited to Dropzone, I think this is probably between Karen and the OC Register. Karen, if you need me to intervene on your behalf with them or any other news outlet, just say the word. Best to PM me.

  25. Weeelllll... probably not, but there might be something else we can do. I have to check on several things first. Might take a while -- sorry for that!
