my 1.1 is a 190.. when I got to 210 they had me try a 9 cell.. when you land one it seems a little faster .. you glide accross the ground VS coming right at it.. I liked the 9 cell better.. Im on a 190 now and they seem to preform killer for my experience.. now my issue is... every canopy is a little different.. So.. You should try as many as you can before you decide .. our DZ has a great store with lots of canopies to try.. They wouldnt downsize me until I was able to land the canopies I was on with out PLFing.. I have not PLFed yet.... but i did a butt slide.. Im finaly starting to feel challanged (which I like).. so Im sticking at 1.1 now.. you said you were going to buy a 210 and your exit weight was 220.. Make sure you can downsize on your own time.. dont be forced into a smaller canopy until your ready.. You only have two legs.. its nice when they both work good luck Mark

Im going to try the pilot at 1.1 this weekend.. My experience last week was. the Sabre2 opened great.. More consistant then the pilot.. (both demos/rentals).. they could have had line issues .. Not sure.. Im new guy..lol.. The sabre turned great in the air.. but I liked the landing of the pilot better.. keep in mind.. I used the sabre at 1.1 (190) I used the pilot the week before on a 210.. so I'll see what is different when I get the pilot to 1.1 the landings are much faster though.. I dont think I can slow them down.. I just need to control them as I come in.. the first couple jumps were with no wind.. the last one was with 14-15 mphcross wind.. all but my fisrt were stand ups.. I came in fast.. felt it tilt to the left a little.. instead of putting my hand down to catch me.. I rode it in.. I was off balance so I just put my legs out and did a 20' slide on the grass.. (early in the morning .. wet grass).. The angle was much flatter on the sabre.. the pilot felt a little more ground hungry and when I flaired it seemed to have more lift.. Am I feeling this right.. or just to in experienced to know better. thanks

due to my lack of experience.. I would have chopped.. Thats not to say tha I have an oppinion with regards to your decision. This is the question I have.. If you deployed around 2500, depending on your canopy that puts you under canopy around 2000 and your in a turn.. so your burning altitude.. .. So you find yourself at 1k' with a canopy thats not acting right;.. they say you should be able to open a reserve in about 300'? .. My question is .. what is the lowest you will cut away at? I just got my A.. so in AFF they said if Im below 1k.. and start to have issues with my canopy I should not cut.. just deploy my reserve.. I know this is not AFF anymore.. and my pull altitude has changed.. as a result of that .. my deck has changed.. but.. whats the bottom line? thanks

NICE! Congrats Hook up with a load organizer.. its a blast!

So.. I did s a search on this...I need to decide exactly this... I just got to my 1.1 wing load.. my first canopy at 1.1 was the sabre2 190... my next will be the pilot 188.. I tried the pilot 210 and liked it better than the sabre.. because I was not at 1.1 .. was it still apples and oranges? thanks

Again.. I’m very impressed and surprised by the wide range of people on this board

How do I cancel my 1800 sky ride order?
Jackpunx replied to Lazycreation's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Try just calling them and seeing what they say. I would be curious to their response. We might all be surprised if they just said "ok" -
Im new and fresh out of AFF.. they didnt even tell us about the device.. or the RSL for that matter so that it wouldnt take away the impact of how important EP's are and knowing when to do them. I think about level 4 when they started to introduce us to gear checks... then they made sure we understood the devices. Maybe its not like that everywhere.. but I can say that was my experience

You can only get it on RWS's newest containers. Derek Not trying to be a smart ass..LOL.. but.. Whats RWS's ? Im new.. and in the market as well.. not to hijack this guys thread.. but what should I do?

You can only get the skyhook on the vector lll?

Thanks for the quick reply, i noticed you have only been in the sport for 1 year if you dont mind me asking how much roughly did it cost you to start up? I have really only been involved for a couple of months.. I just go my license yesterday.. I have a race boat and my DZ sponsored my last race.. We won 1st out of 39 boats .. so we traded the sponsorship for my AFF school.. I think it would have cost about 1700.. I did some tunnel time too
-
I dont know the legal answer.. but if you want to go to a AFF school.. I believe you have to be 18.. I have seen a few pre 18 jumpers here on the boards... Hopefully someone with the real answer will post

Thanks Grant! I got to buy a rig first..LOL.. Im also in the process of getting my pilots license.. So flying to new DZ's is first on my list
-
Thanks to all who replied. I really dig how the DZ gets behind the LO's in organizing so that people dont have to jump alone. This sport keeps on surprising me every time I go out. Well done to the old timers for helping us newbies out

Congrats! Now finish up the rest of your 25 and get your A! The whole journy is a blast.. but its a trip when they take your training wheels off

Hi all, Been asking lots of questions and taking up lots of your time…. Thanks for putting up with me... I got my license this weekend.. What a great feeling of accomplishment.. After I left the school I was like a fish out of water.. they told me to go to manifest and register.. so I did.. Then I asked them to point me towards the load organizer for that day.. She came up and we ended up doing a two way.. That’s what I have been looking forward to since I started this… we did a star exit.. went well.. then we did I think she called it 45 degree touches.. .. Well.. it sounded easy on the ground…LOL..( It went well).. but I found myself reaching to much and trying to muscle it a little All and all I was able to accomplish some touches then break off at the desired altitude and pull.. Oh!.. I got to land on the Grass instead of the student area! So what is the etiquette when jumping with a LO/Coach?.. I know..”BEER!” LOL but.. Do I offer to pay their slot? Do they get a discount or something for organizing and jumping with new people? How does it work? (I gave her a big hug and thanked her for my first RW a Jump) wasnt sure what else to do Thanks Mark

I jumped the Pilot 210 this weekend.. I agree.. the brake lines seemd pretty long and it needed a lot of toggle input. the first couple of jumps were just getting used to it.. then I started to do some front riser turns.. It was a lot of fun to fly.. but I think the lines are long.. Also.. almost every time.. it didnt open on heading.. the first time I let it fix itself.. but the rest of my jumps I corrected with the rear risers then did a C check just to make sure.. The landings are fun.. much different than the spectre.. Im going to go down to a 190 next week.. and Im going to do a canopy class.. Do you suggest that I fly both the 7 cell and the 9 cell.. then decide which I like before doing a canpopy class? BTW.. Did I tell you that I got my A License this weekend thanks for all the info on this thread , its been really helpfull Mark

LMAO.. that help tons... come on!!.. tell me Fly one and you'll see.

I just found this.. The seven cell is more likely to open on heading, will pack slightly smaller for the same wing area, and is less vulnerable to malfunctions of a line-over type. In a partial malfunction situation, the seven cell will be less radical (have a slower descent rate and less violent behavior.) A nine cell will have a flatter glide, giving it slightly more range. It will have a longer flare, which may make the flare easier to time but requires a longer runway. The seven cell will be more stable at slow speeds, give more warning before stalling, and recover from a stall more predictably than a nine cell. The nine cell may have more forward speed, an advantage in winds. Now with this info why would someone want a 9 cell

how much different.. I jump a spectre 210 now.. and will probably downsize to a 190 this week or the next.. Im getting ready to buy something.. I'll demo them.. but would love to be prepared for the differences.. thanks in advance
-
I know Im not an instructor..and Im new.. so.. where do I find the people who want to break in a new guy in Perris?
-
Are there huge characteristic differences between something like a Pilot 188 and a spectre 190? Or in the 170 range as well. To add what are similar canopies for a first rig with a wing load of about 1.1 Thanks

Thanks to all that posted. My experience so far has been amazing.. On My first solo I was cornered by one of the local Load Organizers who said.. "If I catch you jumping alone I'll embarrass you publicly.. Come see me as soon as you get your A.. I want to be first".. This guy and his buddies have all been really cool to me as I have progressed.. I have been able to pull off 4-6 jumps every time I go out (once or twice a week) As far as my exits... I’m having a blast and been able to exit stable and as planned just about every time.. So I’m ready to start learning from other people now.. There is a small group of newbie’s that I have made friends with also.. I’m not sure how much we can learn from each other.. It should be fun though and that’s why Im doing this. Icon134, I saw one of your posts and logged onto your website to watch your vids.. This was the reason for my questions.. Thanks for having that up Mark

what are some of the best exits for a new guy.. I should have my A this weekend or the next and plan on jumping with people as much as possible.. I have done.. I think they call it a star (with an coach) and AFF jumps.. but I was thinking of intersting ways to get out of the plane.. Another question.. I saw an RW vid.. one guy was hands to other guys feet.. Looked like they got in close and started to track or something.. Do you guys do that? can it be done?
