Oakley Minutes. No problem with my peripheral vision, and they're prescription lenses, too. (yeah, that's about 20 skydives, but at least I can see now) In a world full of people, only some want to fly... isn't that crazy! --Seal

Insider's Guide to Skydive Chicago and Summerfest
skydiverbrian replied to rapper4mpi's topic in The Bonfire
Well, I don't know about red/white/blue otters.... last year we had one and we couldn't fly it. As I recall, it seems someone was a little lacking in the service dept and killed the fuel pumps. In a world full of people, only some want to fly... isn't that crazy! --Seal -
The last time I was there, Skyventure was $500/hr. That's around $8/minute. So figure it's less than half the cost of an actual skydive. If you're a backslider or carver, you'll know right away -- the walls won't move out of the way like your friends do on a jump. Also, each flight lasts 2 1/2 minutes, so basically twice the time of an actual skydive. And best of all, there's no one farting on the way to altitude! Insider's Guide to Skydive Chicago and Summerfest
skydiverbrian replied to rapper4mpi's topic in The Bonfire
Actually, the language itself is juvenile. Don't get me wrong, I'm pretty liberal with the four-letter words myself, but I do have a wider vocabulary than that. I'm actually glad the "movement" exists since it pushes me to be better on the potty-mouth stuff. As for the adult environment - WRONG! There are lots of kids at SDC - so many that you might consider it a family drop zone. Jack, Victoria, Molly, Lawrencium, and the others don't need the negative influence. That's what schools are for. I may be way down south, but SDC is my home and I visit often, so I feel empowered to say that if someone's idea of fun is to get high, talk like a sailor, and run around looking for the next wet t-shirt contest, then maybe SDC isn't the place for them. That's just my opinion. You may ignore me as you see fit. In a world full of people, only some want to fly... isn't that crazy! --Seal -

It's the truth. If you're caught swearing, you'll get flashed the "peace" sign. As for no offense, these are skydivers we're talking about, so to my knowledge, the rule has never been invoked. In a world full of people, only some want to fly... isn't that crazy! --Seal -

Skydive Chicago has a "no swearing" policy. They also have a rule of "no offense", which means that anything goes until someone takes offense to it - at which point, it's against the rules. In a world full of people, only some want to fly... isn't that crazy! --Seal -

If they separate during opening sequence, you'll know why he 'banned' you. When I read your original post, I understood that you asked your JM how to loosed the chest strap ON THE GROUND. To loosen the chest strap after the canopy opens and is flying straight is another story. It will improve performance, but not significantly. As for a loose chest strap helping with an arch position, you should quantify 'loose'. Correct would be just enough so that when you arch, it becomes snug. Any looser and you might spend your last 12 seconds wishing it had been tighter. In a world full of people, only some want to fly... isn't that crazy! --Seal

That doesn't sound like such a bad day to me. You got to jump (most of us were stuck at work). Even if it wasn't as great as you'd hoped, you're only on your AFF level 2 -- you're not supposed to be a skygod yet. You had the day off work, you got new goggles, and cold beer. Perhaps apologies are in order? I'm getting the feeling that a line was crossed. Richard doesn't see this with the jest it was intended. According to the "no offense" rule, the teasing stops now. In a world full of people, only some want to fly... isn't that crazy! --Seal

An excellent point. It's all fun and games till someone has a cutaway. Buy two or three jumps at a time and go from there. Let the addiction build up before you sell the house and kids. In a world full of people, only some want to fly... isn't that crazy! --Seal

WOW! Look at what I missed out on by going to work today. I am honestly surprised to find (1) a few gay skydivers here and (2) a general attitude of "whatever floats your boat". Narcimund makes very intelligent points and I'm jealous of him cuz he has a boyfriend who skydives. As even most heteros jumpers will agree, finding a significant other who jumps is not that easy. My experience has always been positive. Skydivers are very embracing of differences and welcoming to those with them. So even if you have green hair, tattoos, and a nose ring, as long as you're cool, I'll jump with you. Even if you're straight. I was in the same boat. I tried waiting in between jumps, but that was killing me. So I dipped into savings, and really cut back on unnecessary expenses. Voila! I had jump money and finished student status and had my A-license in a few weeks. Take a look at where your money goes. You'll find lots of fluff in the budget. Haircuts, gasoline, electricity, meat. (This sounds funny, but I really did cut this stuff out) In a world full of people, only some want to fly... isn't that crazy! --Seal

My first night jump (for which I've already paid a beer 'fine') was a 3-way RW during where we turned 8 points. Takeoff was 11:30pm with a full moon, but still plenty dark. I was terrified and exhilirated. Kind of like my first tandem. But you're right about the danger. I never saw anyone from the load under canopy and some landed as close as 30yards and 5 seconds away.
