Thanks for the info, that's really interesting and makes total sense! I didn't even notice that boarding door was on the right side of the AC, not the left as on every Caravan I've ever jumped. Enemiga Rodriguez, PMS #369, OrFun #25, Team Dirty Sanchez #116, Pelt Head #29, Muff #4091

Okay, pardon my ignorance, but did they jump with the door configured as it was in that picture? I can't really tell, but it looks like there are cables holding the stairs up and could the door be opened like that in flight? I'm used to the roll up doors on everything except for C-182's, 206's and such. Thanks! Enemiga Rodriguez, PMS #369, OrFun #25, Team Dirty Sanchez #116, Pelt Head #29, Muff #4091

Anyone had laser eye surgery???
lauraliscious replied to davecav's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
A friend of mine is having lasik in a few weeks and she told me she can't jump for 2 weeks after that. I'm surprised your doctor can't give you better information...how long would they have you wait before doing other sports like skiing or something?? Aerodyne Pilot - Novice wingloading
lauraliscious replied to VincentVL.'s topic in Safety and Training
That is *exactly* what I did, and I never regretted it! I'm around that weight, started off with a 188, downsized to a 168 at around 300 jumps, when I felt ready, and I love it. Had some rough landings while I was learning, but the larger canopy and lighter wingloading sure helped me keep from getting hurt. I would definitely *not* recommend a 150 as a 1st canopy for a newer jumper at that wingloading. Enemiga Rodriguez, PMS #369, OrFun #25, Team Dirty Sanchez #116, Pelt Head #29, Muff #4091 -

Is there a complete/current list of boogies?
lauraliscious replied to ChickenSandwich's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Where!!!!????!! I'm Sooooo There!!! Rumor is that one is at Spence's house (or at the Roaming RV) every other weekend. I know he just loves to throw a burger grilling boogie! Enemiga Rodriguez, PMS #369, OrFun #25, Team Dirty Sanchez #116, Pelt Head #29, Muff #4091 -
Is that where J gets a big grin on his face and Billy grabs his ankles? I don't wanna watch that game if you don't mind Not quite, but I guess it could work like that. It does have a big "O" though. Enemiga Rodriguez, PMS #369, OrFun #25, Team Dirty Sanchez #116, Pelt Head #29, Muff #4091

Yes, Santa was incredibly good to me this year. I don't know what I did to deserve it though. I got a new laptop, an I-pod nano, some board games, the 3rd season of Lost (x2), a cornhole set, some sweaters and socks, an electric knife, a whitewater kayak, AND a handheld Garmin GPS for hiking (and geocaching). Plus some other random stuff.

Congrats Ian and Annie!!! I'm so happy for you guys!

I would expect nothing less from you, seeing how you're married to her and all. I would recommend Donna too, Mary gave her some great reviews. Kathleen - yes, there is some truth to that rumor, I'm just working on getting a job first. Skydive Smoky Mountains is a great little DZ, great people, beautiful scenery, good times. Jumping out of the Cessna is fun sometimes. And it's nice to just be able to go out and jump on a Friday afternoon. The people at SSM aren't really on dropzone.com that much, they are not NEARLY the post whores that the ATL crew is. But there is a pretty good community of skydivers in the area. And yes, Spence, I think the Roaming DZ is long overdue for a trip and SSM would be a great DZ to invade for a weekend. We could do 14 way formation loads with the 3 Cessnas! The year is not over yet, and there is still jumping to be done. But hopefully no more incidents. Parachutist runs an issue (maybe in March??) that gives a break down of the incidents from the past year. I don't think airplane crashes count as skydiving accidents...they fall under GA incidents, not skydiving. Unless of course the aircraft accident was a mid-air with a skydiver. I think even if the aircraft WAS on a skydiving run, it still counts as an airplane crash, not a skydiving incident. A separate tally could probably be done that does include plane crash victims. So who is going to do the religious "thing"
lauraliscious replied to SkydiveStMarys's topic in The Bonfire
Excellent post Kitty! I've always felt more spritual and closer to God at a DZ jumping on a Sunday morning than I EVER felt at church. And I had lots of church growing up, thanks to Catholic grade school and Presbyterian Sunday school. No church for me this Christmas. Just lots of time with my family. But if it was important to my parents, or the other people I love, to go to church on Christmas then I would go with them to share that time. I think it's excellent to take your child to church if they express the interest to go. I do think exposure to religion is good, and then the kid can choose for themself what's important to them. Merry Christmas everyone! -
I agree, the best fix to this situation would be to avoid it in the 1st place. Do you have an AAD? Better to chop the main at that altitude than fight line twists down to an AAD fire and have to handle a 2 out scenario at a low altitude. Although I think you said you were not spinning, so I'm not sure that would have happened. I think you made the right decision given the circumstance. What if you had kicked out of the line twists only to find your slider stuck up with tension knots or a problem with your brake lines and then have to decide if you need to land using your rear risers?? You landed under a non-malfunctioning parachute and lived to skydive another day. You obviously did something right. I just hope you learn how to stay out of that situation in the 1st place... Just wanted to clarify. You did not state that psycho packing was the same as trash packing but it was somewhat implied. Only wanted to stress the point that it's worthwhile taking care & paying attention when packing... I totally agree! This tells me you know how to psycho pack and don't know how to Pro pack...probably the difference in rolling vs S-folding. They were not my pack jobs, I used a paid packer every time I had those problems...but I know they Pro packed. And I paid someone to pack for me because I had such trouble getting it the canopy in the bag. So yes, I guess, I DON'T know how to properly pro pack because I struggled so much with it...but i tried to make it work for me, and became extremely frustrated. Regardless, I found that Psycho packing works better...for me. Enemiga Rodriguez, PMS #369, OrFun #25, Team Dirty Sanchez #116, Pelt Head #29, Muff #4091

That would be nice, but I believe her car was TOWED. She has to pay them to get it back. And I don't think there's much negotiation factor. That sucks Krisanne! Hope your day does get better.
