Yeah I know I shouldn't do it. Obviously. But then those thoughts of I might not live until 59 1/2 or what about living great now while I'm young enough to enjoy it creep in. I will definitely buy used but even then some used rigs are pretty steep. It seems like wasting money on renting rigs - At least if you buy something you have an asset right? I know the compound interest is impressive over 30 years - but something has to be said for immediate happiness as well and living for today, etc...

Yeah - That's more of what I'm wanting to do, but am trying to hold myself back from doing....

Wow I never knew skydivers were such a conservative group! Good advice, thanks...

Which one wins? Unfortunately I don't have several thousand dollars laying around...Well, in the 401k I do...Hmmm.... I already know what my financial advisor thinks and was wanting a few other opinions!

All hail, the "Expert" ExAFO has spoken.

What's up with all the MAC addressing? I'll ARP you...

That's a nice comment.

Does anyone know how to contact Paul? He used to be a free flyer in Dallas - SkyDive Texas and Skydive Dallas. Any information would be appreciated, we have just fallen out of touch. Don't know if he is still in Texas or not.

Well, this sucks. I just read some articles saying that apparently it's impossible to open the emergency exit doors in flight, since they open inward and the cabin is pressurized. Assuming that cabin pressure was lost, I think I would chance it. Altitude really shouldn't matter, I'll fall fast enough to get into good air. However, I don't know how fast of an exit you could survive. I know the 737 has wing mounted engines, so you in theory maybe you could take the overwing exit, or there are two by the tail. Hopefull you wouldn't be torn to bits by the blast, or hit the tail.

Wow, wasn't expecting that one. :)

Ok so you're travelling to another city, let's say it's on Southwest. (737) There is a cool DZ at the city you're going to, so you brought your rig with you. Of course, you are too paranoid about your gear, so you carry it on with you, it's in the overhead above the seat. The flight goes normally, however on descent the plane loses an engine, and the other engine catches on fire. You're looking out the window at the smoking engine, which is now only working at about 50% capacity and getting worse. You can tell the pilot is losing it, the plane is getting harder to control. The descent rate becomes greater. Everyone is at the brace position - Let's say you think you're at about 25,000 feet. You think of the rig above you. Everyone is hysterical and praying. What do you do?

Thanks for the advice. Sounds like you can't go wrong with the Blackjack or any other BASE specific canopy for that matter. Guess it depends on who you talk to. I'm guessing that getting a Spectre now will make it easier to learn the Blackjack once I transition than the Sabre 2 I was also considering.

?? It's like the worst bar I've ever been to right now lol. http://www.dropzone.com/chat

You're probably right - It was just a joke. I'm sure I might get a few questions but it probably wouldn't be a big deal. I would actually be more concerned about canopy performance at the DZ than eyebrows...And from what I call tell the Spectre would outperform and BlackJack as for as things go at the DZ.

Well I'm rich by no means - But money is no object when it comes to a life saving object on my back for sure - I'll get the best, even if it takes me longer to obtain. As far as skydiving goes, I'm guessing a skydiving canopy like the Spectre would outperfrom a BASE canopy, but I'm guessing. Besides, I might raise some eyebrows at the DZ when they saw me with a BASE canopy... :)

Hey all, been lurking for a while. I'm a new skydiver with about 30 jumps. I'm looking to get into BASE in the next week or so. Alright just kidding. I will definitely be doing the suggested 150-200 +++ jumps before any BASE jumps for sure. My question is, I'm looking to buy a skydiving rig that would help me with any future BASE career. Whenever I get into BASE, I will be buying all BASE specific gear for sure. However, I would prefer not to skydive with a BASE specific canopy, as I like skydiving / canopy work and fun too much. Also, things change, so if after 200 more jumps I don't want to BASE anymore I dont want to be stuck with a BASE only canopy. With this said, I understand that a nice 7 cell skydiving canopy will contribute to some good BASE canopy skills later on. I was wondering what your thoughts were on a PD Spectre 7 cell? I know it's ZP, so I don't know if I should go for F-111, but I've seen a lot of rave reviews on the spectre. I like the CR Black Jack for a future BASE canopy. Would the Spectre be good for me?
