I don't see anyone here, other than maybe you, talking about absolutes. We are all engines of karma

They don't need to. SCOTUS affirmed 2nd amendments rights in Heller. Responding to your posts is becoming a waste of time. We are all engines of karma

Agreed. I enjoyed my stay (though Scottish weather absolutely sucks), and decided to spend the rest of my life with a British (...really English) woman. We are all engines of karma -
Personally, I love Denny's. I find biscuits and gravy, grits, bacon (chewy, not crunchy) can be a tremendous way to start my day. Unfortunately, you can't find a Denny's anywhere near Westchester County, New York. We are all engines of karma

The problem we're both facing is it's considered vulgar to be proud to be American or British. Our cultures should be celebrated, and vigorously so. Come to America, learn to be American. Come to Britain, learn to be British. If you don't want to do that, stay where you are. We are all engines of karma -

I'm beginning to conclude that you simply cannot see the point they're trying to make. Banning weapons due to vague definitions established by people who do not understand what they're talking about could very well lead to all guns being banned. That's their point. We are all engines of karma

I lived in Edinburgh for two years, and my wife is English. She's from a small village outside of Huddersfield. We no longer have "Council Houses" over here, where you literally have generations living on the dole, teaching their children that's a preferred way of life, and the state sanctions it. IMO, that's obscene. Clinton eliminated that, yet Obama is about to bring it back. I personally do not know of any American President who has gone on national television to absolutely disparage business and banks. Obama continues to do so. That's not American. We don't want to be British or European. We are all engines of karma -
I personally don't own anything remotely resembling an "assault weapon", so I really can't answer your question. I do see the thread losing topic, in part due to posts such as yours. We are all engines of karma
-
The point I'm hearing being made is - folks who try to ban "assault weapons" don't know beans about what they're trying to do. Thus, once successful with such vaguely worded laws, it's just a matter of time before all guns are viewed as "assault weapons". We are all engines of karma

I was using your own logic in reply to that. Clearly pro-gun people need to take action to protect against people that you even agree can't be bothered to educate themselves. We are all engines of karma
-
Maybe their view of the world is working perfectly good for them. If they're trying to ban weapons with no knowledge of what they're talking about, they are motivated to do something, instead of educating themselves. Pro-gun people's view of the world IS working perfectly well for them. We are all engines of karma

Ralph Peters: ignore COIN theory and pull out of Afghanistan
StreetScooby replied to nerdgirl's topic in Speakers Corner
I've always thought you could be closer to God under the influence of hash, also. And I've never even come close to thinking about anything remotely like a strategic operation during those times . Let them stay stoned. I don't think the Taliban have any chance of doing anything international in nature. al Qa'eda, Pakistan's ISI, and Wahabi funders strike me as the real problems here. Ralph Peters: ignore COIN theory and pull out of Afghanistan

What's the worst case for us if we simple skip Afghanistan, and leave it to the Taliban? Instead, focus our efforts on ISI and Wahabi funders? We are all engines of karma -
Ralph Peters: ignore COIN theory and pull out of Afghanistan
StreetScooby replied to nerdgirl's topic in Speakers Corner
And that's what I really don't get. Bottom line, who cares about the Afghan people? The Afghan people have nothing to do with AQ's capabilities. All this energy seems completely misdirected to me. Are we looking to establish a salient for in case Pakistan collapses? We are all engines of karma -

Ralph Peters: ignore COIN theory and pull out of Afghanistan
StreetScooby replied to nerdgirl's topic in Speakers Corner
I really like this quote from the Petraeus speech: IMO, the Pakistani ISI and those funding Wahabi thinking are the true irreconciblables here. Camping out with Afghani's doesn't seem to really address this problem. AQ would never have sustained itself without the ISI or funding from rich Wahabis. Where/how is this being addressed? So, you' re saying you disagree. Do you have an alternative? We are all engines of karma -
Ralph Peters had a really good opinion article the other day. His question was: why are we spending so much effort supporting boundaries established by Europe 50 years ago? Re: Afghanistan and their people, do they even want to be educated? Let's face it, if your culture forces you into poverty, believing in whatever interpretation of God you have can be a source of great comfort. I don't think their culture is ready to be modernized, and may never be ready. Why force it on them? We are all engines of karma
