Dude. It's taken you this long to get it? Maybe I'm spoiled... OK OK I AM spoiled... because I have T1 at work. But I glommed onto DSL the instant it came out like 2 years ago. The folks I'm staying with still have dial-up and it's just PAIN. I've been trying to goad them into getting DSL/cable and I'm making inroads, but I'll prolly be in my place before they get it. I'll probably get cable next time around because I don't want topay the telco for a land line and the up speeds on cable are better. Which is exactly what Karma is. I believe in Karma. That said, I don't view it as some magical, mystical force. Rather, it's simple cause & effect. You are a beneficiary or victim of the environment you create. Your actions shape your environment. It determines how others perceive and behave toward you. It determines who your friends and enemies (for lack of a better word) will be. Put out good Karma... kindness, generosity, forgiveness... and you'll create a positive environment around yourself. Put out negative Karma... selfishness, dishonesty, cruelty, lack of compassion... and you'll find yourself in a negative environment. The environment you create will either be a blessing or a source of your destruction. That said, and this is something that has taken me a long time to learn, is that standing up for yourself is not necessarily equivalent to putting out negative Karma. Drawing boundaries and saying "I won't put up with this" is not the same thing as being mean or rude. So if this jerk poisoned your dog and you can prove it, I'd call the cops or take him to small claims court. That's just standing up for yourself & your rights. Now breaking his legs or destroying his property moves into the realm of revenge. Now we are talking negative Karma. Wet. But you're absolutely right. I wouldn't be doing half the fun things I'm doing right now if I were still married. I've gotten rid of most of the emotional baggage. Have some stuff that will linger for a while. But the losing the wife part I'm over. Today it's just been sort of the finality of the whole thing and that "Why did it have to come to this?". But there is no why. Just because. I'm rebuilding. It's both scary, fun, lonely and exciting all at once. It's all good.

Yeah it won't be around anymore no matter what I do with it. It's a small gold band with a small diamond. Probably not worth all that much. And I'm sort of into symbolism anyway. I can keep it in an envelope in a drawer somewhere until the time is right. Liz always threatened me with divorce if I took up BASE, she hated the idea of me BASE jumping.
