I totally agree with Kris on this one. Rod flew the hell out of that Bell and gave you every pennies worth. Cool dude to boot. That is still the best ride I have ever experienced to this day and I pull out the vids at least once a year. We miss you Rod. Please come back. Josh K. You may have an issue if you are editing files from the external directly into the program you are using. Framerate will drop unless you move the files you plan on using for editing onto the internal drive before using them. You should consider moving word files, pics, and music onto the external drive and using the space you free up to store the vid you plan on editing. Even though USB 2.0 is fast, it isn't fast enough to transfer large video files that are being used in most modern editing software (Premiere, Vegas, Avid, etc). Hope that helps... Josh K. Kim Dear's Birthday Tandem student from Quantum Leap
PsychoBroJosh replied to joewantaharley's topic in The Bonfire
Happy B-day Kim, I am glad you have decided to make the jump after all that you have been through. I lost friends in the crash as you did, I know they are smiling as they look down right now. We are all proud of you and praying for you to join us all in the air soon so we can get to know our newest friend. Good luck on your recovery, focus on your goals, and never give up. Keep the faith Kim... we will see you soon, and hopefully, often. Josh K. "Rice is great when you're hungry and want 2000 of something" Mitch Hedberg '68 - '05 -

man Jen, thats cool as shit. The info I mean, not the problem...lol I will get my kids in there right away, my sister actually had that, or something like that, when we were kids and we got it treated by the time she was about 4-5. I have a pair of Irish twins here... one girl, one boy. How much would an exam be if the child is over 12 mos? Would it still give you the same results at that age to diagnose it? edited to make sense, lol Josh K. "Rice is great when you're hungry and want 2000 of something" Mitch Hedberg '68 - '05

It won't be immediate, but the $2.50 tailpipe whistle is some of the funniest shit I have ever seen. Just follow him for a few minutes after it is installed and you won't be able to breathe... Good Times. I like PhreeZones suggestion for immediate satisfaction. Josh K. "Rice is great when you're hungry and want 2000 of something" Mitch Hedberg '68 - '05

Prayers for skydivers and their families in Sullivan, Missouri
PsychoBroJosh replied to windcatcher's topic in The Bonfire
Although I did my training there, it has been some time since I have been out there... just sucks. I personally knew at least 2 people that died at the scene (the only two that were confirmed for me) and they were great people and I will miss them and their positive attitudes. My heart and prayers go out to everyone at Quantum and their families. In my six years of skydiving, I have only known a couple of people that died, none as close as these guys... Man, this sucks... really hasn't even hit me yet, I am sure it will. Just stunned. Unbelievable Fly Free... Josh K. 7 WFFC Vigil (mis?) fires on the Jet
PsychoBroJosh replied to PsychoBroJosh's topic in Gear and Rigging
So.... Does anyone know the perameters that made the Vigil fire in this case? Still don't have an answer. Josh K. "Rice is great when you're hungry and want 2000 of something" Mitch Hedberg '68 - '05 -
Stay away from the small plastic knives at all costs man... Check out the post below by a new jumper that had a mal and had to use his to cut himself free... Agreed. I've been very grateful all 3 times for my D-handle. Easy to grab when you're in sh*t. ----------------------------------------------------------- 3 cutaways in under 200 jumps... hmmm... maybe time to get a new packer. Josh K. I agree with most of the forum posters so far. Snags do not happen often, but they do happen. I also agree that most of the modern D-handles rest pretty snug on the chest/belly so the likelihood of a snag is low without you knowing. Go with what you are comfortable with. I use a pillow for both handles and like the setup. It is different for everybody. I will say that if you decide to go with a pillow, please get some practice in a harness using it as it is a different feeling and people have thought they were pulling on the handle when they were pulling on the harness itself, or they had part of their jumpsuit in their grip with the pillow and had trouble deploying it. I think that you are on the right track with being aware of it at critical times though (ie: exits, docking in freefall, etc). That awareness should not ever go away, but don't be scared of it. Holy Phuk Dude!!! Thats not good... There is no more to the story? You were on your belly and stable when you deployed? If so, you obviously cut it away? Are you blaming the pack job? Man, thats crazy shit there bro! Josh K. "Rice is great when you're hungry and want 2000 of something" Mitch Hedberg '68 - '05

7 WFFC Vigil (mis?) fires on the Jet
PsychoBroJosh replied to PsychoBroJosh's topic in Gear and Rigging
I am getting that feeling too. I have more faith in the tried and true nature of the Cypres units at this point. I would hope that someone from Vigil would explain why this is considered "normal operation". I think people may be more inclined to use their product if they understood what happened in these instances and how to avoid them in the future. Without any explanation as to why it happened, it will happen again and I think sales would suffer as a result of the negative publicity and the possibility of it happening to you. Josh K. 7 WFFC Vigil (mis?) fires on the Jet
PsychoBroJosh replied to PsychoBroJosh's topic in Gear and Rigging
I am wondering if a cypres will recalibrate itself to a lower elevation during the period the plane was pressurized to below DZ elevation, effectively meaning that it would fire 300 feet lower than normal. I remember that the owners manual says to not descend below the take off altitude (plateau/canyon type scenario). My cypres (old version) was reading 0 after the jump. It would be interesting to know how long it takes before they will adjust to a new ground altitude. That's a great point I failed to think about here... Someone mentioned that it operated as designed... I did read the article about the world record attempts and the misfires that occured on that jump as well and I believe that it did go into some detail as to the perameters the Vigil uses to fire that initiated the misfires on that load. I am, unfortunately, unable to locate my copy of "Skydiving" with that article. Can someone explain exactly how the situation in the cabin fooled the Vigils into firing or tell me where to find that info? I can understand if the pressurization brought the AAD's above a firing altitude and then by depressurizing rapidly made it believe that it needed to fire, but I believe the pressure in both instances was under a few hundred feet of reality (I may be wrong here, it was a while back when I read the article regarding the record attempt firings). If that was the case, what variable actually told it to fire? Josh K. "Rice is great when you're hungry and want 2000 of something" Mitch Hedberg '68 - '05 -
7 WFFC Vigil (mis?) fires on the Jet
PsychoBroJosh replied to PsychoBroJosh's topic in Gear and Rigging
Just got back from WFFC tonight (Sunday 7/24) and wanted to see if anyone had any info on the 7 Vigils that fired on Perris Valley's DC-9 this morning. The story I am aware of is that the cabin was pressurized after the door was shut and 7 Vigils "fired" the reserves. Does anyone know what the cabin was pressurized to? Did every Vigil on the load fire? I am aware that no other brand of AAD did fire during the pressurization. Did anyone have a Cypress 2 or an FXC on this load? I am not looking to badmouth Vigil at all here. I am sure we all remember that the Cypress had a few issues when it came on the market and I am all about manufacturers getting a little more competitive with AAD's. The result is typically a better product with a cheaper price for the end user. Just looking for any more info on this incident regarding the specifics that caused these to fire. I would love to hear a firsthand account from anyone on the load or from the Vigil people themselves about what happened. Josh K. premature pin closing pin release
PsychoBroJosh replied to CesspoolDave's topic in Safety and Training
I read that thread all over again as a result of the new post. I was in Rantoul when this happened and heard about it. I didn't get all the details until I got home and read the thread you posted though. Thanks for the first hand account Bill, spooky shit bro. Another reminder of what "could have been" and why we all need to be on our toes at ALL times never hurts. All pins should be checked BEFORE the door even opens, not just before climbout. Josh K. premature pin closing pin release
PsychoBroJosh replied to CesspoolDave's topic in Safety and Training
Yeah, I have seen that before and it is ugly. The guy was actually able to cut away and go to his reserve. He landed without further incident. The canopy actually shredded itself over the tail and eventually fell off. It didn't look (in the other vid I saw of this, which was a little longer and a little better quality) like the pilot had any control issues or damage with the tail as a result. Gnarly for sure!! Check those pins!! Josh K. "Rice is great when you're hungry and want 2000 of something" Mitch Hedberg '68 - '05 -

I agree, Firefox is the way to go. IE is also a major gateway for virus' to get onto your computer as it is the number one program fro web browsing, so most virus' are written to exploit it's weak points.
