Same goes for Greece. The Greek have had a historical aversion to paying taxes. Avoiding taxes is a national sport for them. A socialist framework combined with a enormous, cultural aversion to paying taxes and you have a recipe for distaster, which is exactly what is happening. Instructively, compare to, for example, Sweden, where the levels of both socialism and taxation are fairly high, but the level of corruption is quite low, and there is a fairly high aggregate social tolerance for taxation. Fully agreed.

Thanks for pointing out a media source that may be a tad disingenuous. I won't argue that the source is a bit iffy. But can you refute the claims in the story? If I'm reading it correctly, they went in, told him to drop the knife while he was laying in bed. It sounds like they shot him for refusing to drop the knife even though he never got up. I know perfectly well that a person with a knife at close range represents a deadly threat. But laying in a bed? This is exactly why Toronto Police has units on the road paired with mental health professionals.

And absolutely none of them wear it without permission. Nine just died in a pretty public shootout for that reason. How much more of a public statement do you need? Press Release?

Sorry for your loss Winsor.

No I think they are throwing a little tantrum like toddlers would do. A little "work to rule" to feel better.

Champu, my last sentence is: I am not trying to disagree with you, I am not getting what you are saying.

So there is not a greater political divide, there is just more information available to show there is a greater political divide? I say that the scales are tipping in one directions and your response is that it could also tip in the other direction? Don't think I am grasping your point.

Those two quotes are at odds with eachother. You first indicate that there is no change, then you outline what has changed. There are more options than those two. I think they call this a strawman.

I have voted for federal politicians hoping they would make things better for Canada and not just the province I live in. I have voted for provincial politicians hoping they would make things better for Ontario and not just the town I live in. I have voted for municipal politicians hoping they would make things better for the town I live in, not only my neighbourhood.

Race still is a large part of the story within police brutality.

Yes he voted against providing federal relief after Hurricane Sandy, but is now asking for federal relief for Texas. So do you think maybe those that benefited from the sandy funding will oppose this? I see no difference in this and what pelosi and Reid and Clinton do, after all, what difference, does it make anyway? That's why I didn't make any mention of political party etc. Many decisions these days seem to be made with onle "how does it effect me" in mind. Not with "how can we make this country better". I am sure some form of thise has always been there, it just seems to me that it is getting more extreme as the years go on.

It really is. I think the news just looks for every little opportunity to turn a story into a race issue. Is it worth noting? Absolutely, somewhere in the article describing the victim. Just don't start off with "White man does this to black man". There was a teen who was shot and killed by Denver PD this year. She was Latina, and it was later found out she was gay. The news and protesters instantly turned it into "Gay lives matter" or some shit. I'm sure the cop stopped and asked if she was gay, and that was the deciding factor to shoot her as she tried to run him over Because there are still huge racism issues. I posted a picture of my family on this website and promptly got a pm asking why there was a black kid in the picture. Does the media overdo it sometimes...sure they do. Does that mean they are creating racism and otherwise it isn't an issue...no.

I don't understand why only one cop get's fired. The others are there, watch criminal activity take place and not even try and stop it.

Ferguson Redidents Rioted Because of Police Treatment? Think Again!
SkyDekker replied to rushmc's topic in Speakers Corner
I would think that running from the police is a crime in every country. No running in a high or low crime area is not illegal where I live, or I would have been arrested many times over. -
When they flirt with me, I flirt back....makes me understand why so many women enjoy being cockteases

Video doesn't work in Canada, but I get the gist. You are so cute.

Except the only way to get appointed is to make sure that you have funneled a lot of money to the politicians making up your state government.

And funny enough in quite a few of those stories people are getting charged.... Hence what I said....usually there are consequences. Thank you for making my point.

This to me is symptomatic of the times we live in. No care for anybody but oneself. http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/ted-cruz-calls-federal-flood-relief-texas-article-1.2238227 editted since I screwed up the clicky....thanks Turtle.

List the stories Uhm no, thats not how it works. A car is supposed to drive, a parachute is supposed to slow you down and a gun is intended to fire projectiles. What did you have in mind for these things? And will you be able to stick to one definition for longer than two posts?

When we allow 2 year olds to use them for their intended purpose, then yes there usually are consequences.
