Damn the SIM pisses me off at times!
Andy9o8 replied to skydived19006's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
In all seriousness though arent these rules mainly to protect the manufacturers from yet another lawsuit? Because accidents caused by newbies who cant fly, can happen at anytime when jumpers are within close proximity. I mean look at what happened to Cliff Schmucker last year. As a non-TI, I guess the only advantage being a solo flier gives you is that it would be easier to get out of someone's way prior to impact, than it would be for a TI with a student strapped to them? Sure, it obviously is to cover the mfgrs' asses, but that doesn't mean that safety considerations don't co-exist with that agenda. For one, is the fact that almost all tandem passengers are students with little or no skydiving experience; and arguably the highest standard of care must be shown toward students who don't have the capacity to make an informed judgment for themselves. (That being said, it would be reasonable to apply the same standard to lurking an AFF jump, for example.) -

Ronald Reagan looks exactly the same.

Nobody here said that. It's legal for a DZO to refuse to hire/engage you to make work jumps if you don't have whatever it is they require you to have. But if you've already made the work jumps, I'd predict 9 out of 10 judges will say that the DZO has to pay you for them, one way or the other, under most circumstances. If a DZO is refusing to pay you for work jumps you've already made, lawyer up. If the value of what you're owed is too low to make that practical, then haul him into small claims court yourself. But, if the potential longer-term consequences to your reputation & future employability (even if that's unfair) from hauling him into court are worse than the short-term loss from him stiffing you, then let it go and get on with your life.

I bet the Viagra is still available and fully paid for. If it is indeed, I hope a similar ruling is handed down. Which religion is offended by penile erections? Ironically, at least as to their name, possibly the Shakers.

American tourists held in North Korea to face trial
Andy9o8 replied to stayhigh's topic in Speakers Corner
The very substantial risk of any American traveling to NK being arrested and held without recourse, "just because", is so well known that I find it hard to view Americans who do it nevertheless as all that much less than suicidal. "Hello, travel agency? I'd like to book my retirement to a North Korean gulag, please. One way." -
Well, Marc, that's because you have this need to simplistically categorize people. If you must know, I don't think there's any such thing as an "accidental" human life. While I don't necessarily view embryos in their earliest stages to be viable human lives, I happen to think abortion is often a tragedy that should be avoided and prevented by preventing unwanted pregnancies. But I do think that abortion of non-viable fetuses should be legal to stop the historical relegation of human females to second-class, often even sub-human, status in society, and because ultimately control of a woman's body should be hers alone, not someone else's to dictate. And no, I can't completely reconcile that with the rights of an unborn human being - it's an awful, but necessary, ethical compromise that must be made to have a humane society.

That's a disgusting ruling. More lower middle class women getting shafted for being women, and not being affluent. People who need jobs take what's available; most simply don't have the luxury to "just don't work there" at an available job because its health insurance doesn't cover preventing unwanted pregnancies. More women paying about $40 a month for bc pills; how many meals might that pay for? More accidental un-planned births bogging down families who can't afford them, or aren't ready for them yet. How much extra burden on the social services the conservatives hate so much? And... more unwanted pregnancies, so more abortions. I hope the stridently anti-abortion Catholics on the Supreme Court are happy with that consequence. Why worry about the Taliban bringing us back into the Dark Ages? - they're already here. This, right here, is why so many moderates would rather vote for a less competent Democrat for President than a more competent Republican one: because a President's appointments to the Supreme Court really do affect everyone's lives.

Testify, brother! What ever happened to "2 taps to center mass"? Amateurs.

Every time I read about someone pointing a gun they presumed to be unloaded at a friend and pulling the trigger, I wonder if they did exactly what they intended to do. Ain't that the truth Every fibre of my being just does not compute how FUCKING stupid it is to accidentally shoot someone. Even the act of pointing a gun at someone unless I intend to kill them in their tracks is just not something I am ever willing to do. That was a very basic lesson that the grandfather cuffed me a couple times because I messed up with muzzle control... and that was the very simple lesson. Only point a weapon at another human being if they have decided they want to die. Good post Much the same happened to me but add one embarasing exception. I had a range officer in an indoor range chew my ass about 15 years ago when I brain farte and lost sight of my muzzel direction Chewed my ass out in front of all there I had it coming I never forgot again (to date) Like this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mu51rszgotI BTW, my money is on: he negligently (but not maliciously) failed/forgot to rack the slide, and is just plain lying about it.

Rich Winstock Swoop Incident Cover-Up
Andy9o8 replied to skydived19006's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Well, the problem is: we've subsequently had people post and essentially say that whatever had previously been posted about what happened... well, that isn't what happened. Which brings us back to square one, which is: then what did happen? Which hasn't been answered. And, apparently, never will be. Lots of talk, lots of rabbits out of the hat. No answer. -

As I said up-thread, she doesn't care, and almost certainly doesn't even think it herself. She's simply trolling to keep her name in the news... for which she then makes money. Nice gig, I suppose. -
It really depends if you want to kill children or adults. Are you looking to do a school or a workplace shooting? I wouldn't mind using your avatar for target practice...left/right fist for precision, pink mohawk for accuracy... I thought you usually restricted your thinly-veiled threats of violence to PMs. Guess you've graduated. ETA: Oh, I now see normiss beat me to the post. He's quicker on the draw, but I've got better staying power.

Rich Winstock Swoop Incident Cover-Up
Andy9o8 replied to skydived19006's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Nobody seems to have the balls to simply step up and say what happened. We all just keep going round, and round and fucking round - talking about talking, talking about not talking, talking about what didn't happen, talking about what might be said in some undefined future (yeah, right), but not talking about what happened. A pitiful circle-jerk. I have lost all hope that the truth will ever out. -
My first malfunction was a total which put me under a round reserve at terminal below 1,000 ft. I landed on a stool there, too.
-
No, even worse. He won't make eye contact with me. Everyone else on his desk does. It is very noticeable, and I'm trying to rectify that situation. Sounds like you're fooked. Only one thing to do now. Just try to make it look like an accident.

Rich Winstock Swoop Incident Cover-Up
Andy9o8 replied to skydived19006's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
It's guesswork to speculate about others' state of mind, especially a group of others. That being said, assuming Rich wasn't performing his jump on behalf of the USPA or in the course of his duties with the USPA (and despite the old canard that anyone can try to sue anyone for anything), I see no basis for any liability claim at all against the USPA arising out of this incident. Out of the incedent are the key words here. Maybe think a little further out of the box... Is there maybe something some representatives on the board of directors may have done that could possibly put the organization at risk ? At risk of USPA liability to the injured person for the injuries she sustained in the incident? No. (Perhaps that only answers half of what you have in mind.) -
Well that's good to know. I thought someone had broken the handles off the card catalog cabinet. Last I heard they were migrating from shoe boxes to the cabinet.
