  1. For about 6 years in the 19th Century I was an aardvark in Central Africa, where I eked out a living foraging for insects.
  2. I was a 17th Century Samurai. It happens.
  3. Interesting that you chose only to go back 70 years and not 100 years and more. Because German history is influenced by a lot of events dating back more than just the last 70 years. Did they neglect to teach you that in school or were you just not paying attention? Not to speak for our friend Kelp, but I think the point is that (current or fairly recent) military imperial nations shouldn't lecture other military imperial nations over military imperialism. If it was a Brit lecturing a Russian it might be analogous. Keywords: pot, kettle, stones, glass houses, gall, nerve.
  4. Yeah, they tend to get all... choked up.
  5. Aha! What if they actually land on a runway or taxiway? Think carefully about your answer.
  6. The root of the problem is that this is not what the government is designed to do. . Of course it is, and always has been, since the dawn of civilization.
  7. Oohh, look: Shiny! 4th Circuit upholds Obamacare federal exchange subsidy after D.C. Circuit rejects Lulz.

  9. Agreed, which is also why I don't think it's worth it to invoke the possibility of a discrimination claim to "persuade" a DZ to cooperate. Last thing I'd want a friend or relative to do would be to get trained in skydiving by people who feel they're being forced to do so against their will.
  10. Busy day, so I haven't read deeply into it yet. But from what I skimmed in the MSM, it looks like it basically boils down to: the drafters (of the statute) fucked up on the language, leaving a loophole with unintended consequences, and then the political opposition (understandably) refused to cooperate with the attempt to fix the boo-boo via amendment. Oopsie. Rule #1: Always check your gear.
  11. Put a 130 lb. static line student out with a T-10 directly over the peas at 2,500 feet. Then measure the offset. There you go.

  13. Ordinary scrutiny is the way an adult regards other people's teenage sons. Strict scrutiny is the way a father regards boys who want to date his daughter.
  14. Well this thread derailed fast. Swing them dicks!
  15. Then you're really confirming that your principal motivation, which you didn't even hint at in your OP, was to start yet another thread in here to publicly jack up your ex over divorce issues. You've already got a bunch of previous threads and posts like that on here that the mods had to zap away, and for good reason: this isn't the place for it. Again, I understand your anger, but you need to have some realistic handle on what is (and isn't!) the proper place and way to give voice to it. And again: I hope you find peace at the end of it all.
  16. Did you know that in 2012 it was awarded car of the year in Slovakia? Look it up; I don't make this stuff up. Now back to our show.
  17. Of course it is! Another such aspect, especially for teenagers still living at home, is physical access. Even if they have money, if they can't get, say, condoms very easily and with complete privacy (read: not in a public drugstore or supermarket somewhere), they're not going to get them at all, to avoid risking embarrassment and/or being discovered.
  18. Birth control keeps people from having babies they can't support, and keeps people from having abortions. Both of these are things you've said you disapprove of. Can you at least agree that subsidizing birth control can prevent the greater evil of unwanted babies and abortions? No I support people being responcible for their actions and choices Oh, come on. That's a non-answer answer, especially when it comes to teenagers. I'm not even going to take the time typing the obvious longer form of the answer.

  20. I'm sorry you're going through an awful divorce situation, and I also understand your anger at your ex-husband and desire to act upon it. Many divorced or divorcing couples go through the same thing, and act upon those feelings. With your other thread in mind - you want to serve him with process and compel him to comply with the decree - ask yourself: even if you're technically correct about his TI status (and/or the other stuff you've posted about him on here from time to time), will jacking him up like this put you in any better position? Please don't get me wrong. If you were a relative of mine or one of my clients I'd probably say the same thing. Whatever happens, I hope you find peace.
  21. Though the date of incident was 1 year ago, she received the denial(s) around November, 4 months later. It is my understanding they were awaiting investigation results pending, per USPA, autopsy & law enforcement. So are you saying 1 year from date of occurrence or date of filing claim ? She has been very open discussing details, emotions, issues....with me, so I will share with her input from those of you have given knowledgeable advice. Thanks for your feed back ! I'm hesitant to say anything that might be construed as legal advice on here. But generally speaking (although this is not legal advice) - The clock usually starts running as of the date of the occurrence. - It's not just what the state's law says re: deadline - i.e., the so-called "statute of limitations" for filing a lawsuit (which varies greatly depending on the state and the type of claim). But most insurance policies have specific deadlines for filing suit written into the language of the contract, and they're often shorter, sometimes much shorter, than whatever deadline is in the state law. Blow that contractually-set deadline, and you're possibly (maybe even probably) shit outta luck, no matter what the state-law deadline might be. That's why she needs to see a lawyer ASAP to advise her.
  22. Although you'd think that catching him in the lies about self-maintenance, as Lurch describes, ought to be. Unfortunately the upshot I get from Lurch is that his bosses seem to be wussing out on that. A shame, really. I'll bet if Lurch was Sicilian he'd know what to do next. http://www.imdb.com/character/ch0000832/quotes

  24. Sounds like you need to get yourself a different kind of mechanic to handle this guy.
