I completed my AFF a couple months ago, and have thirty jumps now. My first jump was a static line as well.
Your first freefall was an overwhelming experience, just like mine. There was a certain point that I felt the same way, "this is insanity, and is just scary, not really fun." It truly became "fun" around my 15th or 16th jump. I started to enjoy myself more while in freefall. Although I am no experienced skydiver, I highly reccommend that you wait until your 15th jump, or at least until you have the experience of jumping with someone else for fun.
AFF (for me anyhow), was a very intense period of training with lots to learn, lots to remember, and lots of pressure not to screw up (even thoughwe all do, because that is how we learn). Once you graduate AFF with the basics and become somewhat comfortable, you will most likely begin to enjoy yourself much more. Hope this helped.
