We don't even spell it that way here. No wonder you pronounce it "aluminIum" -- you have an I there that we don't have! - Ah, that explains it then! Yet another example of American "spelling" [coats self in flame repellant ] Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

or, if Americans pronounced it like they pronounce aluminium, it would be tie-TAY-num Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

spicypete... you seem to be confusing me with the DZO. as someone else said it's hard to jump in winter in northern areas... & if you're going there on holiday it's cool... i just asked a question. maybe you should look at who actually posts what you are answering to before ranting off... lol, you're here too! you saw my "who where what" post on AvCom? Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

The sceptic in me also wonders about the sudden rash of north americans apparently looking to do training in Thailand, given about a gazillion DZs on their doorstep? Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun. -
I'm sure this question has been asked before, but I've done a search and not found anything I know you shouldn't fly in a tunnel while injured but it seems to make sense to me that some time after breaking a bone and before a doc will clear you for jumping (where they seem more concerned about landing), you should be able to tunnel fly. Does anyone have some idea? We don't have any tunnels here so I am unlikely to find a doctor here who knows... (I was thinking that before I get back in the sky it might be worthwhile doing a tunnel trip somewhere to refresh flying skills) Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

I agree with this. My story: I did the FJC with 5 friends, only 2 of whom did another few jumps, then they stopped. I was hooked. One day, think i had about 6 jumps, I got asked by another student, there with a few of her friends, "isn't it lonely coming by yourself?" I was like, wtf, I'm here to skydive not socialise! (seems her and her friends all stopped jumping too). Anyway, I perservered, and along the way picked up a bunch of "DZ friends" (people I hung out with at the DZ but otherwise didn't see) - so it's usually not a problem to find someone to jump with even if i haven't arranged anything beforehand. (And interestingly enough, some of these "DZ friends" turned out to be far better friends than some other people I had considered "real friends" after I had my my accident.) Bottom line, if you wanna jump, you'll jump, even if you don't have any "friends" to go with you... Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Want to learn, need your opinion
Orange1 replied to mistersam's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
YES!!! (In fact, with SL you jump on your own from the word go, but I guess what you are really asking is will you be cleared for self-supervision) As to SL vs AFF, there are many threads here, do a search; they can get quite heated. Generally people tend to like whatever they have done themselves. I did a bit of both and can see advantages to both. AFF is more expensive but is faster. Either way, you will reach a point where you (a) cleared for solo jumps and (b) graduate off student status. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun. -
Plates and screws: Leave them in or get them out?
Orange1 replied to MooChooser's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
so it's not just me - I did the same thing, on an unfamiliar canopy, and was too scared to turn low but ended up not landing in a clear area doc want to take the screws out my ankle as soon as the bone starts knitting, possibly as soon as 6 weeks after the accident (i.e. 3 weeks time), as they are just under the surface of the skin (clearly visible, and they hurt) - anyone else had anything removed so soon? The plate stays in at least a year. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun. -
And no doubt will be far more interested in reporting it if she bangs herself up again, cos that's what makes news. 2 questions: (1) would you want to be the supplier associated with that and (2) it might make your name more famous among TV-watching whuffos but will it help your cause in the skydiving community who are the ones you are relying on for sales? .... just observation/questions... not judgement... Um.. being a girl with long fingernails, i don't stick my finger in the container, but (gently) tip the container out so that the lens falls into the palm of one hand and then i pick up with fingertip of the other hand (this is kinda hard to explain without showing you ) and that gets rid of most of the solution automatically (as well as keeping the finger dry) what lenses are you using? Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
-
What lenses are you using? There should be numbers or letters you can see to tell you which side is right side out (or look to see if it is a proper 'bowl' shape, or curled out at the ends) ... btw, my eyesight is very bad, so if i can manage it, you should be able to! Lenses stick to wet surfaces. Make sure your fingers are as dry as possible (are you maybe spilling saline or soaking solution on them?) and put a drop or two of saline on the inside of the lens - this should help the lens attach to your eye. (Reverse tip for when your eyes are dry and it's not that easy to get them out - put a drop of saline on your finger so that the lens is attracted to that.) I was going to sleep in mine last night just to see what happened, but I couldn't get the things in. Is it just me or are these soft contacts really difficult to use. I am having an extremely difficult time getting them in and out. Walt Walt - re softs, i think it's just getting used to them - i always found them easy. On the sleep - I stand corrected but I think you can sleep with Acuvue2, just you can only wear them for one week rather than 2 weeks then. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

That's real pretty. When I grow up and buy a rig new I can also be as co-ordinated as that
