The newest and most beatiful Dropzone in Washington state. Bald Eagles frequently do "canopy formations" with us. We are on Whidbey Island WA. We typically have blue skies when other dropzones are socked in. Wingsuits are WELCOMED with open Arms. Where else can you exit over the water and fly back to the Islands?--Jet City!

Dewey! You were a fighter indeed! You fought this courageously. Fly free. I'll miss you. ~Maggott __________________________________________________________________________________ "Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone?"

I am so tired of losing people! Steve... what can I say? Adam my heart goes out to you. I have no words. We met in Montreal 2006 and I remember fondly the time we spent together. I don't have enough fingers or toes to count all the losses I've endured in the pursuit of flight...and it never gets easier. I just have to say how sad this news makes me...sad, and tired. Fly free my friend. Fly free. ~Maggott __________________________________________________________________________________ "Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone?" -
Great! I'll join! I Just got back from ASL coffee night! I'll join the facebook group now. But my facebook account has my real name, not Maggott, so here's my real name so you'll know me! ~Rick Mangan ~Maggott __________________________________________________________________________________ "Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone?"

Can I join even though I'm hard of hearing? I can pass as a hearing person, but I can also sometimes pass as a Deaf person. I'm ASL fluent, and can still hear ok and along with lipreading, you might not know that I'm hard of hearing. ~Maggott __________________________________________________________________________________ "Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone?"

My softie is comfortable and I could wear it all day long when I'm flying (but that does't build much confidence with my passengers-mine is not a jump plane!). These rigs are easy to pack and just an all around great design! The company is outstanding in customer service, knowledge, and quality. You can't go wrong with a softie.

I love my Argus. I have had trouble with other AAD units and I decided to give the Argus a try. I was completely surprised to see how small the unit is when I packed it into my rig! I like it! I've had no problems with it. My only concern is where the control panel sits on my Javelin. It seems vulnerable to a door strike and it looks fragile. My friend had one that cracked a few years ago, so i'm really careful with mine. I like the multi-function ability and the field replaceable batteries. The colors are great too! (it matches my rig).

Right On Jeff. I was looking around this forum, with tears in my eyes...having just lost another friend today, i was feeling nostalgic. I stumbled again across this post. I have been thinking about "the big cone". Though he and I never really agreed on anything, we were always friends, and he could make me laugh like no one else. I was cone head number 4 (If memory serves). My best friend, Kirk Edison (1962-1978) bestowed the name "CONE HEAD" upon the King brothers just before he went in. And to my recollection, he was #3, which would make me #4. I'm sure I have certificate somewhere. Ancient history, that! Anyway. I miss you, and hope to see you soon. Blue Skies, my friend, Blue skies! ~Ricky ~Maggott __________________________________________________________________________________ "Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone?"

So Shocked! Talking to Cheeto today he told me that Herb had passed, as I was asking about and waiting for word of herb's improvement. I will never forget his giggly, edgy way of being. I'll never forget the time when he sat watching me pack my round reserve upstairs at kapowsin, as we talked about where we first met and all the many dear firends we had in common. To My friends in Skydive Hawaii where I first met Herb, and my friends in Kapowsin where I ran into him again. Let us never forget how quickly time passes, and how easy it is to say "I love you" even though it often seems needless so we choose to let it wait for another time. We gamble on future opportunities. Herb, you goofy, obnoxious, unique, wierdo! YOU WERE LOVED and I hope you knew it. BLUE SKIES! ~Maggott ~Maggott __________________________________________________________________________________ "Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone?" -
A great big man who has left a great big empty space..King, the Big Cone Head. I was there thirty years ago when he started jumping, so many stories, so many laughs, so many friends left behind. That's the true measure of a man. Big Cone Head, I saw you last this summer. It had been more than ten years. I could see that you were sick...but you kept it to yourself. We didn't always get along; we didn't always agree, but we were always friends. Tonight I lift a pint and toast our team captain: "O Captain, my Captain! Ourfearful trip is done..." ASL works great in the airplane! (better than any spoken language) as long as I'm not the only one who understands it! Hi Mark! Great to see you back on line! Good luck with your Big Way work. Keep me posted! Silvana, WA Crash, August 21, 1983
maggott replied to Jumpervint's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
I was on the plane the day before it went in. I took the day off and my friend who took my slot went in with the plane. I'm shooting from memory here...but here is the list to best of my recollection: Jamilee Kempton (age 18) Dean "Bushy" Bushong (took my slot) Marilyn Bushong Bob "Lucy" Lockwood Mark Leverenz (Got out; didn't survive) Bob Bandes Jim Schill Terry Cafferty Ken (Newman?) I can remember his face but not his last name) Two Pilots (I don't know their names). I might be forgetting someone, but I think there were 9 memorials that Summer... There will be a 25 year memorial this August 21st. Many of the survivors will be there. I see some of them regularly. My heart still breaks when I think of that day; in fact...I'm tearing up now. Blue Skies my friends! Will there be a rainbow boogie this year? I need to make plans and see my LGBT brothers and sisters again! Haven't heard from you for a long time. Hope you're okay. ~Rick ~Maggott __________________________________________________________________________________ "Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone?"

My quiet friend, Cecil. We never got to do the things we planned... such a short time together, but plenty of time for you to kick my ass at foosball. You will be missed... damn! You already are. Time can be an illusion. I was sure there was plenty to get to know you better, and skydive with you for years. That too is lost. We all miss you. ~Rick ~Maggott __________________________________________________________________________________ "Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone?"

Landon was an eager learner. Willing to try just about anything... and he did his best. So much potential lost. You were a gentle, kind soul... I'm sorry I knew you for only such a short time. I hope that where you are now, the skies are as blue as we are without you. Your myspace page says that you are skydiving in Idaho and your mood is peaceful. May it be so. Your friend, in fond memory. ~Rick ~Maggott __________________________________________________________________________________ "Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone?"

Casey, You were a friendly, happy, and joyful man... for all the short time that I knew you. I will forever remember you that way. Blue Skies My Friend, you are in great company. May the skies always be blue where you are, and the skydives free! ~Rick ~Maggott __________________________________________________________________________________ "Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone?"

Recently on a camera load my vigil fired. Although I Pulled at 2000' my spectre snivelled...Right after opening I felt my reserve go... so I chopped a good main. With 2 out, I would have landed in the trees. I was in the saddle of my reserve above 1,400ft. I sent it in to find out what was wrong with the Vigil to make it fire so high. I was not satisfied with the response I got, so I removed the Argus from my rig.

can one of you old-timers explain....
maggott replied to crotalus01's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
I just found this post... I have been a rigger since 1980. Here's the scoop: Blast handles aka: Anti Wind-Blast Ripcord Handles were designed for ejection from jet aircraft...designed to not come out of the housing ferrule by mistake... for skydiving they created a problem... if you pulled the handle at an angle, it would jam... the solution was to drill out the inner post that fits into the ferrule. Once the 3-Ring came into being, another problem arose... the Blast handle hung right next to and below the 3-Ring... after a cutaway the ring drops down. I watched a friend of mine grab the Large ring of his 3-ring after a cutaway... and pull on that for about 1000' until he realized that he didn't have the handle... he found his blast handle and saddled out at about 500'... pretty scary! ~R ~Maggott __________________________________________________________________________________ "Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone?" -
I made several jumps out of the ill-fated Learstar (aka: loadstall; aka: colonel killer) that went down in Washington in 1983... the day of the crash was not my day to die... a wuffo friend called me to go see a movie so I missed the first Saturday of jumping since I started in 1977. The guy who took my slot never got out of that plane. He was a good fiend...as were many who went in that day. I know that the last time that I did (or ever will) jump out of a load star was august of 1983. Does kidney cancer surgery count? I had to miss safety day because I had surgery to remove my left kidney a few days before... Hopefully I'll be back in the air by springtime! Over the years I have seen terrible things happen, and some seasons/years seem worse than others. Then their are times when things go along without a hitch... let's keep learning from events, planning for the worst-case, and hope for the best year yet. Blue Skies. I agree! If I get wrapped I expect the person above me to hang on until we work out a plan! In fact, I got wrapped in 1984... and had to ask 3 times before my team mate dropped me... he wanted to make sure that I REALLY wanted to be dropped... (he was right..my main didn't reinflate)... but if someone intentionally drops you without your consent they may be killing you. Communicaiton is imperitive! the key to survival in CRW. I don't know about a "hard deck" for cutting away... that totally depends upon what's over my head... I'd really start to sweat at a grand...but the real hard deck is the ground--Rule #1: Get a canopy open before you get there!
