Oh about 5 minutes or so. Before that Lucy was next to the bed with her chin on the bed for about 5 minutes. ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder?

How much fighting is too much? They were doing really good this morning. Play wrestled. Then WHAMO Maya pounces on Lucy and it look to me like she went at her stomach with her mouth! Luck squealed. I don't think there was blood.... but holy cow. They did that a few times and I was all freaked out. Then the little snot Maya strarted grooming Lucy; it was cute, she had her paw on Lucy's head... then WHAMO she did it again! Maybe Maya was cranky cause she wasn't allowed to eat (she's off to get spayed this morning). ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder?

Definite progress. Lucy ventured to the food and Maya watched her eat and drink. She tried to intervene once, but Lucy told her in no uncertain terms that she was gonna eat! So Maya watched! Phew. Lots of progress today. I just had them sitting on the couch and I was petting each at the same time. Couse Maya just ambushed Lucy as I was typing this. ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder?

Things have progressed. Lucy is venturing out of her safe spot. Maya will chase her back to it, but won't follow her into it. Maya swatted Lucy a couple of times but that was about it. Oh and chased her across the house to her hiding spot. But I take it as a good sign that Lucy is venturing out more. She made it up on the couch... then Maya cornered her.

It has been an interesting morning. You are right. Lots of hissing. A teeny scramble. Lucy is currently hiding behind the VCR. Oh yeah, she also discoverd the hole on the back of the speakers and climbed in there. Hubby was stressed because she apparently disconnected some wires. The speakers are now in the garage. They are both sleeping, Maya on a chair in front of the VCR Lucy is sleeping behind. Poor Lucy is being very skittish. Though she does good standing up to Maya. Maya is the one that starts the hissing... and then Maya is the one that backs away as well. ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder?

Ok hubby just shared with me that he was going to let them be just like you said... don't stop it til there is blood. But because I was so freaked out he didn't. I told him to do it when I am not here tomorrow so I don't freak out!

Michele, thank you so much for your wonderful post. I will send my husband your notes about not to interfere too much. I just worry about her stitches. And my husband is worried about the fact that I went and got a cat the week before he leaves town (did the same thing when we got Maya and I was freaking out cause it was my first pet). They tell me to keep Lucy calm for 10 days as she had her surgery yesterday. She's already wrestling with stuff (it's been over 24 hours) in the bathroom. I gave the little bed Maya naps in to Lucy. Then I bought another one. I will switch them on and off during the next week. I am going to go cuddle with Maya now! I am going to come back to this post over the next few days and probably will have more questions. Thanks!!!! ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder?

We let them out together and my husband followed them around with a water bottle. They hissed a lot. Maya went after Lucy (newbie) a few times. Hubby squirted her. They both got squirted if they went after each other. They did ignore each other for a while .... and Lucy was fairly calm most of the time. It has been a stressful hour and a half. But because of Lucy's surgery, she is back in the bathroom. We gave Lucy a toy she took to and you can hear the bell from upstairs. Maya did jump ON Lucy once and I felt SOOOO bad for doing this to these kitties. I have a knot in my stomach still. What are some of your tricks? I am calling my husband the cat-whisperer. I would have kept them separate til they were better from their surgeries then let them go at it. ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder?

The shelter we got Maya at gave us 6 weeks to get her spayed and we get some of our money back. She'll end up costing $5. The shelters here in town require you to wait to take her home so they can spay her. Problem is I want to take her home on a weekend so I can spend time with her and watch her with the other cat. That's why I was thinking of the petsmart one. They are spayed and they had a fairly young one when we were there a couple of weeks ago. It's more expensive but then I won't have to take time off work to go to get her spayed (40 minute drive each way). Might be worth it if they have a young one. ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder?

We are a closed toilet seat family. Good to knew. I am going to chekc petsmart today. I would prefer to go to the shelter, but petsmart already has them spayed. If I get an animal this weekend wouldn't it have to be the same sex just in case cause the current cat is gettiny spayed on Monday. ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder?

Thank you for being the only sane response. *sigh* That picture of the kitty falling out of the box is adorable! Do I really need multiple litter boxes? Can they share food and water bowls (indoor cats). ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder?

Ok gang. I think my little kitty would be happier with a playmate. My current kitty is 4 months and we'll get one a similar age. Maya is set to be spayed on Monday. Should we get a female or a male? Or do they all get along? And, we've had Maya for 5 weeks now. What kind of process should we do to introduce the new kitty? We don't have a way to keep them separate and still see each other (like a glass sliding door). Suggestions? ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder?
