Under Investigaton for Saying: Hussein Obama
rickjump1 replied to rickjump1's topic in Speakers Corner
I feel it is inappropriate to chastise anyone for saying the full name of a candiate or anyone. How unlucky for a candidate to have a full name with Hitler or Adolph in it, but it GOES WITH THE TERRITORY if you are running for public office. spelling Do your part for global warming: ban beans and hold all popcorn farts. -
Under Investigaton for Saying: Hussein Obama
rickjump1 replied to rickjump1's topic in Speakers Corner
Uniform or not, he is on duty 24/7, and he ran for public office himself. I think it is because he said the name that won't be read or heard on the national media. "Edited to Add" Had he used the words "worthy opponent" or something different, I don't think there would have been a fuss. You do have a good argument. Under Investigaton for Saying: Hussein Obama
rickjump1 replied to rickjump1's topic in Speakers Corner
Hands up! You're under arrest for saying 'Hussein Obama!' Posted by Bobby Eberle October 9, 2008 at 5:57 am >> Printer-Friendly Version We have seen many changes in this great nation which have been brought about by left wing activists. As kids, we used to say the Pledge of Allegiance. Now, it's being attacked in the courts. We used to say a prayer in the morning before school or at football games. Socialists in America have deemed that "offensive" and the practice has all but disappeared. Christmas displays honoring the birth of Christ trigger convulsions by the Left, who say that we shouldn't make people feel "uncomfortable" with our manger scenes. Now, we can't even say what we want to say in public because not only will the thought police be on patrol, but, using a recent event in Florida as an example, saying "Hussein Obama" in public might just get you a visit from the FBI. Just ask Florida's Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott who is under fire -- and investigation -- for referring to Obama at a campaign rally by his -- gasp -- full name. What is going on with America? At a rally in Estero, Florida on Monday for Gov. Sarah Palin, one of the pre-rally speakers was Sheriff Scott. Now, anyone who has been to a political rally knows that the job of the warm-up speakers is to do exactly as the name implies: warm-up the audience. Whether the audience is cheering wildly or booing loudly, the pre-rally speakers are there to wake them up and get them going. So... according to ABC News, Sheriff Scott stepped to the podium and said, "On November 4, let's leave Barack Hussein Obama wondering what happened." Oh, the shock of it all! Speaking someone's full legal name in public! When asked about the "incident," Sheriff Scott responded by saying: “I absolutely, unequivocally don’t regret saying it,” Scott told the News-Press on Monday. “In order to be a speaker at this event, I had to give my full name — Michael Joseph Scott — to the Secret Service, even though I’m the sheriff of Lee County. So why would I apologize? Is there some kind of double standard here where I have to give my full name, but I can’t use his?” “Unless he changed his name, my position hasn’t changed,” said Scott of Obama. “It seems very clear to me that people have one of three stances on this thing: There are those who dislike it, there are those who like it, and there are those who think it’s a whole big deal about nothing, which is where I stand.” As noted in the Cape Coral Daily Breeze, the Palin campaign responded by issuing the following statement: “We do not condone this inappropriate rhetoric which distracts from the real questions of judgment, character and experience that voters will base their decisions on this November.” Fair enough. If Palin or anyone else wants to say the usage of Barack Hussein Obama is inappropriate, he or she has a right to do so. But Sheriff Scott also has a right to say what he wants to say without fear of reprisal by the government. However, according to a local Florida NBC affiliate, Sheriff Scott's remark has now earned him an investigation by the federal government. The NBC station reports that officials with the U.S. Office of Special Counsel have started an investigation of the Sheriff under the question of "did he use his position as sheriff to influence an election? If so, he could be in violation of a federal election law called the Hatch Act." The basis the Feds are using is whether Scott was campaigning while on duty and in uniform. Sheriff Scott responded to the NBC story with the following statement: "I am on duty 24/7 and 365 whether in or out of uniform. Like every other elected official, I am aware of from President to Governor to State Representatives, etc. We engage in political activities whether for ourselves as candidates or for others. As of this writing, I am unaware of having done anything to generate all this attention other than using the senator's full name." The question is this... If Sheriff Scott had not said "Barack Hussein Obama," do you really think he would now be under investigation? If you answered "no," then that should send a shiver down your spine, because it means that the government is imposing pressure and creating a public example of Scott for simply saying someone's name. Whether the investigation leads to charges or legal action is not the point. The point is that government intimidation is being brought to bear for someone exercising his first amendment right to free speech. This is wrong, regardless of whether you think his usage of Barack Hussein Obama was appropriate or not. This is still America, isn't it? They don't want to know. Just like they don't want a voter registration ID card that would stop this. Fact is, they get upset if you say Obama's full name. Do your part for global warming: ban beans and hold all popcorn farts.

More insanity; seems that the taxpayers fund ACORN. « Previous Post Next Post » Funding for ACORN Should Be Suspended (Sen. John Ensign) October 8th, 2008 Along with seven of my colleagues, I sent a letter yesterday urging the Federal Housing Finance Agency to suspend the use of taxpayer dollars for programs that ultimately fund the controversial group ACORN. ACORN, which is under investigation, is eligible for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac affordable housing funds, which add up to hundreds of millions of dollars a year. As part of the Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008, Fannie and Freddie are required to contribute to this newly created affordable housing fund. This was signed into law prior to the government takeover of the two agencies. Now that the government owns Fannie and Freddie, the government will be taxing itself to create a backdoor slush fund for ACORN. The recent news tying ACORN with voter fraud makes suspending these funds even more urgent, and FHFA already has the authority to do just that. Nah. Something small they want to ignore.[url]suspect fake voter registration By BILL DRAPER, Associated Press Writer 1 hour, 58 minutes ago KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Officials in Missouri, a hard-fought jewel in the presidential race, are sifting through possibly hundreds of questionable or duplicate voter-registration forms submitted by an advocacy group that has been accused of election fraud in other states. ADVERTISEMENT Charlene Davis, co-director of the election board in Jackson County, where Kansas City is, said the fraudulent registration forms came from the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or ACORN. She said they were bogging down work Wednesday, the final day Missourians could register to vote. "I don't even know the entire scope of it because registrations are coming in so heavy," Davis said. "We have identified about 100 duplicates, and probably 280 addresses that don't exist, people who have driver's license numbers that won't verify or Social Security numbers that won't verify. Some have no address at all." The nonpartisan group works to recruit low-income voters, who tend to lean Democratic. Polls show Republican presidential candidate John McCain with an edge in bellwether Missouri, but Democrat Barack Obama continues to put up a strong fight. Jess Ordower, Midwest director of ACORN, said his group hasn't done any registrations in Kansas City since late August. He said he was told three weeks ago by election officials that there were only about 135 questionable cards — 85 of them duplicates. "They keep telling different people different things," he said. "They gave us a list of 130, then told someone else it was 1,000." FBI spokeswoman Bridget Patton said the agency has been in contact with elections officials about potential voter fraud and plans to investigate. "It's a matter we take very seriously," Patton said. "It is against the law to register someone to vote who does not fall within the parameters to vote, or to put someone on there falsely." On Tuesday, authorities in Nevada seized records from ACORN after finding fraudulent registration forms that included the starting lineup of the Dallas Cowboys. In April, eight ACORN workers in St. Louis city and county pleaded guilty to federal election fraud for submitting false registration cards for the 2006 election. U.S. Attorney Catherine Hanaway said they submitted cards with false addresses and names, and forged signatures. Ordower said Wednesday that ACORN registered about 53,500 people in Missouri this year. He believes his group is being targeted because some politicians don't want that many low-income people having a voice. "It's par for the course," he said. "When you're doing more registrations than anyone else in the country, some don't want low-income people being empowered to vote. There are pretty targeted attacks on us, but we're proud to be out there doing the patriotic thing getting people registered to vote." Republicans are among ACORN's loudest critics. At a campaign stop in Bethlehem, Pa., supporters of John McCain interrupted his remarks Wednesday by shouting, "No more ACORN." According to its national Web site, the group has registered 1.3 million people nationwide for the Nov. 4 election. It also has encountered complaints of fraud stemming from registration efforts in Wisconsin, New Mexico, Nevada and battleground states like Michigan, Ohio and North Carolina, where new voter registrations have favored Democrats nearly 4 to 1 since the beginning of this year. Missouri offers 11 electoral votes; the presidential candidates need at least 270 to win the election. Do your part for global warming: ban beans and hold all popcorn farts.

Why don't you ask him or why hasn't the media asked him. I don't see McCain not answering any questions about his past; some I don't like. There is a distinct difference between these two candiates when it comes to their past. Do your part for global warming: ban beans and hold all popcorn farts. -

" Sen McCain's efforts toward reconciliation with former enemies is a positive indicator, imo. Yes, Vietnam remains a communist political system and has been problems (e.g., human & civil rights violations); in the 1980s, they shifted to a market economy. VR/Marg McCain turned his back on the families of POW/MIA's by refusing to talk with them. This "reconcilation" came when there was still the possibility of locating our guys left behind. Funny how chummy he was with Kerry and Clinton to get it going. He is still a better choice than BH Obama. Do your part for global warming: ban beans and hold all popcorn farts. -

Interesting quote from John Adams (maybe he wasn't sure what he believed in, except not the Holy Trinity) courtesy of Wikiquote. [url] "I will insist that the Hebrews have done more to civilize men than any other nation. If I were an atheist, and believed in blind eternal fate, I should still believe that fate had ordained the Jews to be the most essential instrument for civilizing the nations. If I were an atheist of the other sect, who believe or pretend to believe that all is ordered by chance, I should believe that chance had ordered the Jews to preserve and propagate to all mankind the doctrine of a supreme, intelligent, wise, almighty sovereign of the universe, which I believe to be the great essential principle of all morality, and consequently of all civilization". Obviously not And the worst part is all of this is coming from the religious right rePUBICans who have done more to interject religion into our government than ANY other group in the history of our country. They have a VP candidate who is even farther into the religious right than the current Incompetent in Charge.. who took us on his excellent little personal "crusade" So much for that separation of church and state. This thread and several others in SC are pointing out a very very serious problem. No wonder our country is in such sad shape.. More people need to go to school to get an education.. not to party The separtation of Church and State is what is wrong with America. Had things stayed the way they were intended to stay when the Constitution was written, then we would not be in near the mess we are in now. When you take God out, all you have is bad. (America was founded by those who believed in God and the Christian faith) However, this is not where I intended this thread to go. I simply posted a video, that showed proof, that it was not the replublicans who caused our economic mess. You are right (just be prepared to be thrown to the lions). You kidding or trolling? I mostly agree with Bill on that. 3 out of the 4 current candidates would make fine Presidents. The 4th one is an embarassment. Any chance Palin will hold her own during the debate?
rickjump1 replied to freeflybella's topic in Speakers Corner
Not at all. I was comparing her to native Americans. Is that bad? She is in tune with nature. Even today, people gather mushrooms, berries, fish, and shoot hairy creatures. It's part of American culture as early Europeans picked this up to survive and a lot of us like to this carry this on so people will remember; kind of like folk dancing and sewing. Perhaps not credit cards … & perhaps not ROTC students ... but the data is equivocal. E.g., an August 2006 DoD Report, “Report on Predatory Lending Practices Directed at Members of the Armed Forces and Their Dependents” found that 17% of military service members use payday loans, primarily but not exclusively enlisted E-5 and below. "This report documents the alarming growth of the predatory lending industry, illustrates why members of the Armed Forces are prime victims and makes concrete recommendations on action [regulations] to fix the problem." -from the letter signed by AMD Steve Abbot (USN, ret) included in the report Those findings was part of the underlying argument for legislation {i.e., regulation) capping interest at 36% (as opposed to the 390 to 780% usury annual interest rates that the DoD found) back in 2006 that was included in the 2007 Defense Authorization Act. (Btw: the investiagtion & report was required eh, 'requested' action by Congress from the 2006 Defense Authorization Act.) Anecdotally, I've observed the preponderance of payday lending storefronts that have joined other establishments typically found outside military installations. Less anecdotally and from the DoD report, “Near McChord Air Force Base and Fort Lewis, there are four times as many payday lenders per capita compared to residents living in the rest of Washington State. Within 3 miles of Fort Hood’s perimeter, there are at least 18 payday lenders and 13 of those are within one mile of base.” VR/Marg I agree. Out the gate they are there: lenders and used car lots designed to "help the military". The soldiers get it from both ends: the lenders and their commanding officer to pay up. I remember the days of the United Way shaking down the military for donations. First they hit the division commander or post commander and it flowed downhill to the poor enlisted ranks who were already being hit for savings bonds. Back then payday was not much for the enlisted; especially after making those "voluntary" donations. Do your part for global warming: ban beans and hold all popcorn farts.

I'll jump in in solidarity with rickjump1. My parents not only raised their 8 biological kids but also took in 4 foster children who were brutally raped and abused by their own father. One of those foster daughters became pregnant as a teenager as the result of a rape (this was not by her father). My foster sister courageously gave life to that child and he became my 5th foster sibling. My parents prosecuted the rapist who ended up serving 10 years in prison. They never sought a dime from any governmental agency or any agency for that matter. They never just talked the talk, but rather walked the walk. Your parents were very brave and courageous to take on that much additonal responsibility. I cannot imagine myself coping with so much. My 5 year old granddaughter keeps us busy (I had to force myself to look at the actions of other 5 year old kids to see if they were the same; they were). Right now she is a Nanna's girl unless she wants to go fishing or shoot her tiny .22 (she has room for improvement here)..... It hurts me to think of she and her mother not being born. The summer after high school graduation, my adopted daughter made contact with her birth mother and birth father. She was disappointed in what she found and kind of let go from there on. She was an excellent student; excelling in math and science and had the ability to teach. In her case, a reunion was not good. She has since settled down, but I was afraid she was going to get into the same pattern of her birth mother which was not good. Do your part for global warming: ban beans and hold all popcorn farts.
