My marriage for 34 year has been rough and smooth. We have both packed and left only to return within hours. We both laugh when we say the reason we stay together is because of my work schedule (gone over 6 months out of the year). I honestly think that was probably true at one time. INS never had a handle on terrorists entering the U.S. They came and went as they pleased and they still do. Congressman Tom Tancredo is on the Bush shit list because he wants to reform immigration. He publically states that we don't deport anybody because their visa has been violated like those who commandeered the airplanes and crashed them into both the Pentagon and World Trade Center. Why not give INS some teeth and get serious with borders and expired or violated visas? The President himself is dragging his feet on this. Sometimes when I'm feeling low I wonder about quitting when I get too old or broken up. Reading these posts make me realize I can almost go on as long as I want. It's up to me. Now, if you knew anything about what AWOL actually is and how charges are brought against a person who is suspected of it, you'd already know that Bush couldn't possibly have been guilty of it. The media has thrown that term around like Bush has committed some kind of henious felony...... Bush could not have been awol because people covered for him back then and today. In the same circumstances, you or I might have been charged awol and then ordered to active duty. Remember, back then it was not who you blow; it was who has the money and connections. What do you propose we do about people who want to blow stuff up with ANFO who buy the fertilizer in small quantities without a background check? Your plan does not address the fact that 1000 pounds of ammonium nitrate is really just 100 ten pound bags. Duh! Is this the best liberals can do? I guess I should not be surprised that stupidity came from Schumer's mouth. - I see your point. Some Maritime Laws, like FAA regulations are the result of somebody dying. To prevent large amounts of casualties, background checks for purchasing large amounts of fertilizer seems prudent to me. Mc Veigh? showed just how deadly it is in bulk, and he was no foreign terrorist. What about dynamite? Farmers use it and I bet they get background checked too. A long time ago I had a friend give me the solution to winning the war in Vietnam. He said,"put all the good people in a boat off the coast, kill all the bad people, cover the country with a foot of concrete, and then sink the boat". This is the kind of tidy solution some of us think is the answer for today. This is going to be a prolonged war with virtually an unlimited supply of terrorists, most coming from countries that despise democracy and hate anything western except technology. The sad thing is if we left the Middle East today, we would only be sending them a sign of weakness and an invitation to kill us here at home. The poor civilians that are daily stepping on cluster bombs and old mines that we left behind in S.E. Asia only want them removed. They haven't the means to kill us.
